On another note, I just discovered my earlier posts showing a schematic for the "jig" for the 805 have magically disappeared, along with some posts on how to get the schematic for the 805. I posted it a couple pages back recently. A couple others listed where to get the schematic, and are now gone also.

I look for the above posts to dissapear soon also, if the pattern follows. So download them now if you want them.

Can anyone tell me why these are gone? Maybe an avsforum problem? Moderator removal? Onkyo legal request?

If the posts were made after 8/2/2008, they were lost in the database crash.

Again... AVS's database crashed and lost about 11 days worth of posts. You'll have to repost.

I guess you missed all the discussion of the Great AVS Server Crash II.

Forgot to write down the link.
It's gone now for good ... but it will live forever within my fading memories...

Edit: Unfortunately I deleted the file also from my HD because I needed the space...

I heard the link to Onkyo's v1.10 is what caused the database failure.

Onkyo commits sabotage!

is there any way to update the onkyo 705 without taking it to service center? I have version 1.04, and the newest is 1.06 which I would like. I think it is odd that they do not let you update yourself.

Do me a favour and go back a page - use a RS232 connector and tell us if the provided executable works with provided files, or if you need 705 specific files..

Can't believe it's been a day and no-one has owned up trying this!

If someone does design a PCB for this jig, be sure to match the hole spacing on the Onkyo pcb (where Franck soldered wires) so you can use pogo-pins. That way you can just clamp the jig to the Onkyo board and not leave any trace that you messed with it.

You can get cheap pogo-pins off Ebay.

Folks, I saw vxs3tu's pics and schematic this week (Monday I believe). I'm almost positive it was *after* the AVS crash. That leads me to believe the posts were intentionally removed.

I have an 875. I've updated my F/W in the past. It's at 1.04. I'm trying to do it again. I have a somewhat generic USB-Serial cable. It's not the same one that worked in the past, but I have no reason to think it shouldn't work. I've tried two different laptops with identical results.

I am quite computer literate and am sure that I installed the driver properly. It shows up correctly in device manager and I have tried setting to COM1 and COM2.

I get as far as "Searching F/W", but no farther. Any suggestions?

I'm using the code dump from Joerod received today.

Well, we already know that Joe was "warned" by O/I, and they do advertise on AVS too. So, there may be some behind the scenes censoring going on. That's MY conspiracy theory anyway... .

Smarty I am glad you brought this up. Wherever there is money involved, strange things begin to happen. I'm with you on this one...

Rumors, rumors, rumors....

Why should they (O / I) do this ?
It's nothing proprietary as we know now, because the flash writer is based on a Renesas reference design, a completely different company, who published it on their site for reuse.
And I don't think that there are any legal issues involved any more.

Those postings just disappeared as everything else in between August 2nd and August 11th by the database crashes.
The ones who posted those schematics and pictures should just repost them, if needed.

We haven't seen any special legal activity on O / Is side anyway.

^^^ Oh yeah?? How about the 1.10 that you posted and got lost in that crash?? Coincidence? I don't think so!!

Gurkey, we're just having some fun with this, don't mind us...

There is no 1.10 yet (to my knowledge).
There hasn't been any officially (except for joerod's statement about testing it).
I was taking the opportunity of the database crash to heighten the tension and pull a joke...

A lot of people took it for real unfortunately.
I have to apologize for this.
Please don't bombard me with PMs anymore, I don't have it and I never did...
The only one who got it is joerod. Please contact him.
Thanks.

Edit: I would really appreciate if someone other than joerod who has really seen proof or a glimpse of a real 1.10 (or whatever version number it might have now) would speak up and tell us something about it.
Let us know ! Please.

I was scared to update my DSPs on my 805 for awhile, but tonight I broke down and did it. It was painless and I should have accomplished this feat sooner. I have a question regarding the firmware. My current firmware is 1.06. I think there is a newer version out than this. What benefits would I receive, if any, from updating the firmware? Thanks in advance.

All jokes aside, myself and many others are now wondering if 1.10 will ever become a reality??

I doubt it. Onkyo has new models now, and the X05 series is discontinued. If previous history is any indication, support (if you can call it that) for the old series will now end.

I too would be surprised if it ever came out. The kicker is Onkyo doesn't want the regular owner to be doing firmware upgrades. If they did it would be openly available on a website with simple instructions.

Since the 05 series is no longer in production and unless there is a major bug in the current recent firmware I can see no benefit in them pursuing the continued development of the 05 series firmware.

Now if the 1.10 firmware was already completed and tested it might be possible that it could be distributed to regional service centers or might even leak out to the general public through informal sources.....hint.....hint......

We know that someone has it, at least he told so ... HINT ... HINT

Although he never even told us which model it was for. Before the database crash he did tell me on the, 885 thread, that is for a reciever, not the 885.

Then I found another thread where he stated he no longer had the 805, and yet another thread where he stated he no longer had the 875, or 905. So just what is he testing it on? For 17 days now? Draw your own conclusion.

I think this is a little paranoid, but I am assuming it is intended to sound so.

There were across-the-board losses on all threads. If Onkyo intended to wipe out the jig discussions, it could have had the moderators do it surgically. It didn't need to crash the whole server to do it. I've seen days of discussions wiped out on single threads where people got out of control with their nasty comments (some got suspended from the forum, too).

The real question is, if the jig was given to him secretly from his "contact", how would Onkyo even know that he had it? How would they know who to send threatening letters to? And whatever happened to the jig he supposedly built?

People here are way too gullible.

Well, let's face it..........this ain't "Big Brother" on CBS! You gotta' take people for their word here. After all.......if you don't, you'd be doubting every post.

No, I won't doubt every post. Only those that make wild claims. Or those that make promises of things that are never delivered. And I have been reading these claims for well over a year now.

Unfortunately, JoeRod released way to much information on these forums about himself. I PM'ed him once and warned him about what I had found out about him and cautioned him that he was comprising his source at Onkyo. He did take a bit lower profile for a while.

You have to realize that these are public forums and I suspect that all manufacturers and distributors assign someone to monitor what is said and happening on them AND to provide summaries to management of what is said and discussed.

I also suspect that most companies do not participate in the forums because some posters will become most abusive to the company representative if the company does not do things 'their way'.

I have no doubt that Onkyo did find out who JoeRod was and where he lived. (They may even have found the name of his inside contact.) I was have no doubt that they sent him a letter with a very strong caution about potential legal action if he did certain things. That is what corporate lawyers do to earn their salary! Corporations also will initiate legal action even if they think they have only a small chance of winning. They hope to scare off the other party by the thought of the costs of allowing the case to proceed.

Common senses tells me, that one should question everything which is been stated anonymously (everyone is hiding here ) and is out of reach (and control), at least to a certain extend ...

But i don't see much sense in continuing this discussion, because time will tell, if anything stated or said will show up or stand the test of time ... and it doesn't make much of a difference anyway. It won't change the world we know.
We will see ... and common sense will do the rest.

I rather would like to know, if our Asian and European AVSforum visitors have heard anything about continuing firmware support in the foreseeable future for the outgoing model series xx5 ?
Maybe we should do the old "petition" thing regarding the fix for the color matrix issue on the Reon. It is quite disturbing that something that simple can't get fixed, especially given that many "upgraded" to a higher level Onkyo product just to get the Reon.
