Hi all, this is my first post.

I'm trying to update the Main FW of my 805 (1.00/1.04) with my homemade dongle (Based on a female HDMI cable) and keep getting the Timeout error when running Flashsta.

I understand that it could be either a faulty connection with the dongle or an issue with the serial connection. Regarding the dongle it looks OK, and the standby light is not coming on when I plug the receiver, so it could be working.

As for the serial connection I checked that it works by sending a couple of commands through HyperTerminal (!1PWR01, !1PWR00) and the receiver would turn on and off. I'm using a USB/serial cable with the appropriate drivers and COM1.

My specific question to the good people here is if the fact that the serial connection works with HyperTerminal, rule out any problem with it and I should concentrate on the dongle or if there could be a problem with the serial even if it works with HT?

Thanks in advance for any help. Gerardo,

Probably the homemade Dongle. Try making another.

OK, so I finally managed to update my DSP on my 876 (I was stupidly pressing enter instead of return, so not getting the sp/dig update message. Silly me.) and have now come to try and update my main firmware to 1.05.

I've installed the Updater, and I've installed the drivers for my USB to serial cable, setting it to COM1 and rebooting, and successfully got the 876 into Main Update mode.

Upon running the App Updater, I see the following on screen:

Code:
Firmware Read Result ********************************
001. F000000A / FF000000
002. F000000A / 01000000
003. F000000A / 02000000
004. F000000A / 03000000
***************************************************
When I hit the main udpate button, the display on the 876 changes to Searching F/W... but nothing else happens. I tried on both a Vista HTPC and an XP laptop.

Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks.

posted this in other threads with no response so figured would try here.

I just received a refurbed 805 from A4less. Unit seemed to ship fine and looks good out of the box. Have only turned on once to check out firmware versions (prefer to get it up to date before setting up). Following is what I've got....and a couple of questions:

1) i think i'm bummed about the loader version, no?
2) i'd rather not brick this beast...if i take it to an authorized service center, does anyone know if they will update it for me at no charge (there's one not too far that i'm willing to drive to)....though i generally am a DIY type so am still considering
3) finally, my Video number seems higher than another version I saw listed elsewhere as most recent (Video 3.18 / 07609A); could mine somehow be more recent (hard to believe)?

Loader 1.00 / 07502L
Main Firmware 8 1.04 / 07614A
DSP 8051 07601A
DSP 8052 07518A
DSP 8053 07518A
HDMI 1.01 / 07706A
Video 3.62 / 07717A

Any help or thoughts appreciated!!! Thanks!

Hello all,

First let me start by adding my voice to those thanking the people in forums like this one for help with this potentially convoluted mess in updating our receivers.

After reading this thread I downloaded all the software necessary (whoever put together / and has been updating that ISO, great job!) , purchased the USB/RS232 cable, installed everything onto my laptop without a hitch. Then to my surprise I discovered my Updater was Ver.1.00/07614A ....DOAH! (version 1.04 for the actual firmware).

I didn't purchase my 805 right after they came out but it was in 2007 so I guess it could have been sitting on the stockroom for a bit. I did see the instructions for the JIG/DONGLE and was wondering if I could get on the mailing list for people that are sending a set of jig cables around to one another?

Thanks again for this great thread its been very helpful.

Oh BTW I'm located in Virginia. I just saw the message with locations listed.

Hi,

take this Post http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...3#post16011103
copy it and add yourself to the corresponding area (to the end of cause).

After you have received the dongle and updated your 805, remove yourselfe from the list and increment the counter.

Well, if anyone is actually reading or compiling requests:
Can they release firmware to allow 805 owners to use the "Rear" channels as "Front Height" channels with "Pro Logic IIz". It should be doable in theory, since they will be releasing 607 models with this feature. I can't use the rears in my setup, I'd like my sweet 805 to have a use for that power...

Hope someone can advise. My 705 is at 1.04. I followed mrgribbles' methodology for updating to 1.06 (put the 1.06 ID and .mot files in the DTC98 folder and modified fdist to point to the .mot file). I'm coming out on a com port set to COM1 Using a straight thru 232 (f/m). Got the RX in mainupdate mode as described. Used the update.exe from the updater folder in the DTC9_8_R3 file. Hit the button and the 705 display showed Search F/W and went no further. The visible log showed an error message but I don't remember what it said. The MSCOMM32.ocx file is in the system folder. Note that I am not using the updater installed in the program files, should I (didn't think it would matter).

I don't want to go any further until I get some guidance.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Jim

Update to 1.06 successful
Discovered an improperly named file. Once corrected, the update was a piece of cake. Much more straight-forward than the DSP update as stated earlier in the thread.

Thanks to all, especially to mrgribbles for figuring out the f/w solution for us 705 owners.

It is really worth it.

mrgribbles... you're the man!! The upgrade went off without a hitch! ...much smoother than the DSP update. I did get the e2prom error, but a reset cured that. Off to redo all the settings... thankfully I wrote them down before startingMany thanks for all the hard work to everyone involved!!!!!!!!!
Nope, you be the man for taking the leap of faith. Glad it worked out for you. Before you reset everything I'd be interested to know if you unplug the unit, does the e2prom error return?
I had already reset everything, except for running Audessy, before I seen your question. I went back & unplugged it for ~30 seconds... no error! Do I need to leave it unplugged longer?

There is some residual storage in the capacitors but I'm sure the 1/2 min is AOK. Thanks for the info. I wanted to make sure that the reset did take care of it and tha tit wasn't a permanent thing that others have reported on the 805 IIRC. Thanks again.

I'm not going to run the Audessy until tomorrow morning, so I can unplug it over night just to make sure there is no residual cap storage. I'll post my findings then. If the error does return, does that mean a trip to the service center? Thanks for your support.

No service center, that's kind of a naughty word in this thread Some other owners could defeat the e2prom error by a reset but it returned after power off and then on. I don't recall that happening with the 705 but thought I'd ask just to be sure. In the worst case, if it does return after a night off duty, then you may have to redo set up any time you lose or turn off complete power to the device for an extended period of time. I have a feeling that won't be the case as I cross my fingers.

What was I thinking!! A momentary lapse of sanity I guess Anyway, after being unplugged for ~10 hours, the error has NOT returned It sure is sweet to finally have the 705 work as it should. Again, many thanks to you & everyone else involved, for all your hard work & the time you spend helping the rest of us.

That is great news. We all thank you for running the experiment. Now we are reasonably assured that if the e2prom error does appear, a reset has a very good potential of eliminating it in the 705.

Now go ahead and finish your set up and enjoy listening without that ridiculous audio lock on delay. Good job.
