Firmware/Update Requests For Onkyo/Integra-Please Read - Page 178

Thanks for the info zaqqaz.
I completed HDMI1.02 upgrade. Unfortunately USB/RS232 adapter sold at Best Buy isn't compatible with 64bit Vista (all my laptops run it). So I had to take my receiver out (good thing it's not used as the power amp) and flash it in the office where I still have my desktop pc running XP. Big thanks to everyone who posted all the upgrade files and shared the info.

Ok so I checked the loader version and firmware and this is what I have. What does it mean?

Mai updated mode (loader)
Ver 1.00/07502L

main: (firmware)
8 1.04/07614A

dsp 1 sr 8051 07518A
dsp 2 sr 8052 07518A
dsp 3 sr 8053 07518A

hdmi 1.00/ 07517A

Don't mean to come off snippy (Well, maybe I do, but...), did you not read Jasonvr's post on the previous page?? One can hardly miss the BIG, GIANT PHOTO of dongles for sale.

If you're serious about a DIY update to your unit, then I would contact him as per the instructions in the post, as it is my view that the list is semi-irrelevant at this point. The ONLY way I see the list maintaining its viability is if EVERYONE presently on it is now clammoring for one of Jason's 10 brand new, freshly made dongles. If he is not 100% dongle-less as of this post, then the people on the list aren't serious and are simply waiting to get something for nothing. (Funny how long a list gets when no compensation is involved.)

If you've gotten the impression that I have a bit of an attitude about this, then you'd be right. I find what's been happening in recent weeks/months to completely violate the spirit on which this particular thread was founded. In any event, Jason should be able to hook you up if he has any left. (Most recent word is that they've barely moved.) Also, download the All-in-One update ISO in member Tspeer's signature; follow the instructions to the letter and you'll be good to go. If you need help, there's plenty of us still around who'll be more than happy to walk you through it. We only ask that you do your due diligence by at least reading the All-in-One update instructions beforehand.

Thank you BasicBlak - as of this moment I am ..... dongle-full. Not a single one has shipped I had one person send me shipping information, I sent back where to send the PayPal payment and that was the last thing I ever heard..... So I still have 10 dongles for sale and 2 dongles that can be sent around under the deposit system.

ONKYO SUPPORT: -2 (gezzaz3, illganjalli)

I ordered my dongle from Jason on Sunday. He shipped it Monday, & it arrived today, Thursday. I performed the update tonight, & my loader is now 1.01, & my main FW is 1.08. I'm surprised how easy the whole process was. There were only a couple glitches:

- The instructions say that the Standby light goes on when you plug the receiver back in after inserting the dongle. In fact, the Standby light stays off.
- I got the EEPROM ERROR after the update, but I was able to get rid of it by following the instructions.

My 805 finally has no delay when I FF or RW scenes.

Thanks to Jason for taking the time to make the dongles & getting one to me so quickly.

Sorry I've been away for a while, but I've been on a lot of travel for work, etc. Here's the good news though. I have finally been able to build 10 dongles using FFC (Flat Flex Cable). The picture is below. I already have two people interested in purchasing, which means there are 8 brand new dongles available for sale.

I have set the price at $11 including shipping via the US Postal Service within the US. If you are in Canada, due to slightly higher shipping, it will be $12 via US Postal Service First Class International. If you are interested, please PM me with your address and we'll start the PayPal process.

In addition, I also have two dongles that are moving around under the "deposit" system. I have PM'd the first two people on all of the lists and haven't gotten ANY interest. Only one dongle has gone out under the deposit system and it did make its way back and the deposit was returned. The deposit system is detailed here:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...0#post16806390

On a different front, I do have some bad news - I don't seem to be able to do anything with the partial jig I received from alikob. I put the diodes in, however, it does not have the mini PCB to connect to the receiver. I tried to make one out of FFC and ruined two ZIF connectors in the process. There are just too many wire to connect in too small of a space (very small pitch). I'm not sure what to do with it at this point. I know people need it (all the 605 owners), but I don't have a solution. I have tried to contact alikob to see if he has the conenctor, but have not received a response.

I have the original software version and have never been able to upgrade. I would be interested in getting one of these if the process is not difficult. I don't even know where these things plug in on the 805.

Take a look in Tspeer's signature for the all in one instruction set. It's an ISO image that can be used to create a CD. It has instructions and all the SW you need. Then, please PM me and we can set you up with a dongle to upgrade you 805.

Thanks. I downloaded the information but it looks like I have to burn it to a CD and can't just read it. Don't have one at home so will need to look later.

you dont have to burn to cd
use something like winRar or power archiver or ultraIso and extract it to HDD

Yes, and there are also programs that will mount the ISO image and make it appear like a drive on your computer as well. Here are some ways on Windows:

I created a disc and found software to read it. My technical skills were probably exhausted assembling a Dynaco amp almost 40 years ago. I noted from a photo that the dongle isn't connected to anything??? Now I'm thoroughly confused. What did I miss? Do I need a dongle to not be connected for the process to work? Thanks.

De Novo, re-read the file "Simplified Dongle Instructions," as it is very specific on what needs to be done. You definitely need to plug the dongle in. The instructions contain a color photo that shows exactly where the dongle should be inserted. So, take a deep breath...and let's take it from the top.

You didn't miss anything. The dongle is only plugged into the 805 & not connected to anything else. Think of it like a jumper switch on a motherboard.

Yes
it is very easy
note the UP ARROW
so if you are behind the ONK
the arrow will be facing to the right and upward when you insert into the SLOTmake sure there is no power to the ONK (Use a switched outlet makes it easy). When inserted correctly, the ONK DISPLAY will not show.
this may reassure you

Well... After 7 weeks, I finally got it back. They replaced the (back-ordered) video processor board. Seems to be working great, and no more delay when switching audio modes.
Well, so its not so perfect after all. Seems that the switched power outlet on the back is no longer switched, & stays on all the time. I had this feeding my Adcom power filter.

I am not sending it back for this, so I guess I will be building a 12v relay & using the 12v out to do my switching.
there's a setting in the rcvr's setup that switches this behavior on/off....

Any chance you could point me to it? I have looked & cant find it.

Thanks....

From the FAQ in the 705 thread:

11) My external fan is plugged into my receivers AC outlet and it doesn't turn off when I turn off my receiver! How do I fix this?

This seems to be a rare problem with all of the Onkyo receivers. Not everyone has this problem out of the box however for those who do there is an easy solution to fix it.

*Updated* New Easy way to fix this problem:
Go to you menu Setup and select > 7. Hardware > 5. HDMI > Control > Disable (set this to disable)
If it says enabled your fan wont turn on and off with your receiver so be sure to turn it to disabled.
I am sure mine is off, but you can bet I will check it when I get home!

Thanks....
The state of the internal AC outlet depends (at least for the bigger units) on the HDMI CEC remote control feature
If it is enabled in the setup, the outlet stays on, if disabled, the outlet will be switched.

Turns out I was thinking about a different setting.

Can the firmware update process be done with the Onkyo AVR still hooked up? That is, with speakers and devices still connected?

That's the way I did mine. My components and speakers are not the easiest to access to disconnect things so I left everything as is. I never read or heard anything that advised otherwise.
