May I also suggest that drugs are bad and a high school education is good?

Vista is running great on my 2 desktops and my laptop. Hell, the audio system alone is an excellent reason to move to Vista.

Well it does good for you then.

So posting a thread here is going to steer away other members to not upgrade simply because of your post?

Installed vista on my girlfriends laptop cause she had a pirated copy of XP on there from the previous user.

After running the updates its extremely responsive, it has great multimedia features, it boots up within 15-20 seconds tops.

No problems here. I'll stick to XP though. Don't feel like shelling out a couple of hundred bucks for on OS that isn't much of an upgrade over the old one.

Is your main problem that you actually have to pay for it?

I've been using Vista x64 Home for over a year now with little to no problems. Very stable. The problems have been my hardware and not Vista itself.
I've been pretty happy with Vista so far. Most regular users probably shouldn't update yet. The first 12 to 18 months in any new major product cycle is full of issues.

Running Vista Ultimate and wouldn't go back to XP. I love Vista.
I've had Vista for over a month now, I've also done SP1 as well. So far no problems, I'm beginning to really like it. However, I typically do not try to run really old software on it, I use my old 3.0 ghz P4 for that. The Vista machine did not like MS Office 2000, but would run Office XP fine, but when you think about it that software is eight years old. I probably should eventually upgrade to the latest version.

Vista Ultimate since it came out, works like a champ.

Flame bait. lock the thread.

Welcome to the forums.

Vista Premium with SP1 - no issues for me.

No, only those few who seem to hate Microsoft "just because"...

Look, Vista isn't anywhere near as good as Leopard, but it's still way ahead of XP, especially in the realm of multimedia. The way it manages multiple devices such as sound cards and videocards is way ahead of XP.

Microsoft peaked with 2000.....a perfectly functional OS that wasn't too intrusive. XP only put a pretty face on it and marginally made it easier to, say, home network...thats about it.

Vista? oh god only when I have absolutely no other choice.

Mac OS's? Give me a break......they're going down the dark path too..an OS should be invisible.....but the truth is you can only sell people so many versions of "Windows".

We've been running our apps in "Windows" (enter any OS you want, from Mac to the C64's GEOS environment) for going on 25 years now....and I really dont see a more efficient or more useful environment anytime in the future.

Minority Report hand controlled OS? hahaha....yeah people will be cramping up in five minutes..a.nd what about Porn? how do you work THAT out!?

Vista 64... been running fine since launch. Also uses a Mac too.

Both are popular to bash for many gearheads. But an OS is just a tool -- nothing to get passionate about.

running vista64, some driver issues in beginning but is now running fine. i would never go back to xp after running vista for almost year now.

I purchased Vista Ultimate for $280 the day it was released.
Could not play COD 2 multiplayer, 7 months go by and no fix by MS,Activision or Infinity Ward. MANY other issues expected from a new OS, but I hung in there for 10 months. i.e large file transfers, calculating free space...yadda,yadda..

Long story short, I re-installed XP and life is good and all my games play like they were supposed too, DX10 isnt worth all the hassle and overall pc performance degraded with Vista.

When the "Games for Windows" editors talk about the problems encountered with games that have the official "MS stamp of approval" then thats gotta tell you something.

Vista is great for the average user and has great security features but apparently doesn't like my computer habits.

Keep in mind that MS is already "scrambling" to release Windows 7 in 2010 to clean up the mess they have created with Vista.

I've been running Vista for over a year now with zero problems.

And I push it very hard. My PC is on 24/7 recording HDTV from an HD Homerun. The recorded HDTV is then networked out to three Media Extenders. Plus I play games on the PC and do a whole bunch of other stuff with photography and editing video.

Most of the problems I see with Vista are with people who have no business running the OS in the first place because they are putting it on an outdated computer. Vista really needs a dual core processor to work properly.

I have been running Vista on three different machines for about 8 months. It has been mostly fine for home use but there are little annoyances on my work machine. I will be installing SP1 soon to see what problems may be addressed in this release soon.

The biggest problems I have experienced with Vista are:

1. Slow network copies (to non-vista machines) and large file moves/deletions. This has happened both at home and work. When attempting to delete certain folders with many files/folders delete events can fail after an extended period until the contents are deleted first.

2. User Account Control is NOT a pleasant experience for users either. The dialog comes up frequently. It is an excellent example of an OS getting in your way. I have turned it off on two machines but was trying to leave it on for the third to see how usable the machine is. For people doing simple internet browsing/email it is probably useful. I just discovered a problem yesterday with the Run As Administrator option. I haven't run any exhaustive tests yet but it appears that assigning this option to an application truly does change the application to run under that accounts privilege set causing network drives you have access to on the console interface to be unavailable to that application. I imagine you would then need to change your connection information to network drives to the administrator account. Talk about slowing down work...

I am finally at the stage that UAC will be turned off on my last machine unless SP1 makes some improvements to how it works.
Turning UAC off was the first thing I did when I installed it.
And SP1 will fix your first problem.

Use DOS 6.22! Not vista
How about the recently leaked emails from MS that stated the Vista was not ready for public release and the rush for completion was to meet the Jan'07 deadline. Thanks for the unfinished product jerks.

I purchased both XP and Vista on their release days, My experience with the latest OS will definitely make me think twice next time. The way I look at it MS owes me a few bucks.

The way I see it, it's your own fault. It's like buying a first year model car right off the line- you always wait a while for all the bugs to be worked out.
Well, I think the word is getting out, you probably don't want to buy an MS product at release. They tend to be buggy and 3 red ringy. Until people acually stop buying them at release nothing will change though.

They had a midnight release for Vista and no one that I knew was lined up for it.

People really need to stop blaming the customer for purchasing shoddy software. There was no reason for Vista's problems on release especially considering the amount of time, money and delays from Microsoft prior to releasing it.

I'm no MS hater but after using Vista for several months I went back to XP. Its simply more user friendly. I didn't even notice how much slower Vista is until I went back to XP. And, yes, my computer hardware is new. XP is a great piece of software. I have loved it since it was released and was looking forward to having the same feelings about Vista. It simply didn't work out that way.

For those who use Vista and enjoy it, great. But saying that the problems people are having with it are the fault of the customer is ludicrous. Its not as though people are trying to do anything on Vista they weren't already doing on XP.

As for the statement from DaveFi, if I buy a car that has a lot of problems I can return it under state lemon laws. Why don't we have that for software? Until that becomes an option people have every right to make these types of posts. Like your car analogy, some people will have problems with a model (regardless if it is a new model or not) but most people won't. Have a little compassion for your fellow user who was hoping for a better "out-of-box-as-promised" experience.

Lets all just get along and enjoy whatever OS we decide to run, admit there are problems, and move on. Let people air their grievances without being slammed.

Why? Because most people as soon as they opened the box would:

1. Copy and return the software.

It's not like Microsoft has abondoned Vista. On the contrary, they continue to update and improve on it, so it is a much better and stable system than it was when it was originally released.

What was the point of this thread again?
