You have to buy two items in order for the code to work.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

Sorry. Was picking up Speed Racer for my son at the same time so didn't know that this was the case.

Heh. I'm soooo glad I held out re: the Japanese HD DVD set. The BD set will surely be Bay-grade awesome, and the price - especially for the UK box - is very nice indeed.

Yeah, I preordered The Band of Brothers set and The Ultimate Matrix Set for a total of $135 together. I saved $54.00 on the two of them together!

I had ordered/preordered a bunch of stuff from WHV. However, I see that you live in CA as well, they add tax and shipping costs, etc. I cancelled this one with WHV, because I saved $20 thru the zon. Otherwise, I've already received a bunch of other WHV titles, Dark City, Room with a View, Pale Rider, Ganges . . .

edit: btw, when trying to cancel thru the sign-in website, it was down for a few days at least. Ended up calling them. That's another nice thing about the zon, ease of changing stuff up, good CS.

How'd you get it so soon??

I may order through WHV if they are already shipping this...alot earlier than November everywhere else, even though WHV still lists correct release date.

BoB is $58 (pre-order) from Tower.com.

I sampled a bit of part 2.
The picture looks awesome whites look a little blown out, and the color is desaturated and the image is full of grain. Detail is excellent and depth is great. It looks as good as, maybe even better than, Letter and Flags.

The MA track is great and it doesn't disappoint. But it just cannot keep up with Letters from Iwo Jima(which is a freak of audio nature itself). The clarity and spacing is better than SPR, but that mix is crazy and I think it still sounds better.

Thanks Shadow for posting your first impressions. Would be great if you can share some pics out here.

.

Glad to hear the PQ is still top notch. The HD DVD imports looked fantastic for the most part.

This is the first post I've ever seen on any message board that had a quote from the future. As well as the receipt of the BoB BD set by shadowrage of a release that is a month in the future.

Weird.

shadowrage: Is the tin in a Blu-ray size?
Is it DNRed at all, or is the grain present?
Actually it would be the second post from me like that. I got Blade Runner almost a month and a half early.

Comparing the case to the Lost box it's like a fraction of an inch taller and just barely wider. It is a good deal thicker though. I never had the DVD set to compare in size. But I think they made to be close to BD size.

There's plenty of grain. And lots of fine detail. Faces look defined, not smeared at all. If you guys are interested in bitrates, and who isnt?
From eyeballing it I don't think that the VC-1 on this one drops below 30Mbps all that much. The MA hovers around 2.2Mbps, much less than most MA tracks(I don't think it affects the quality here though.)

Each disc only has 2 parts on it, so they should have plenty of room to stretch their legs and all that. Haven't tried the PiP functions though.

This is another box set I'm glad I waited and didn't get the dvd version. I'll definatly get this on BD.

That means it's 16-bit, which is fine.. Nice to hear they gave it plenty of room to breathe. I think I will netflixing this..

Ooooh, it looks like Warner/HBO finally got the message and they're resizing their specialty cases for Blu-ray.

Looking forward to Xylonesque comparisons with the HD-DVD versions. I have the Japanese HD-DVDs and they are awesome in the PQ department. I have also pre-ordered BOB Blu-Ray anticipating better AQ with the DTS-MA track (and all those lovely extras which the HD-DVDs don't have). I was unsure about whether the Blu-ray version would match the HD-DVD's PQ though. As soon as someone can do a comparison PQ wise that would be fantastic!

And therein lies the central question/answer of whether our Japanese HD-DVDs will become collector's items or simply a relic of HD-DVD. The HD-DVDs are fantastic in their own right, but all things being equal, I'd rather have the blu set at this point for obvious reasons. We'll see how the blu set turns out--should be interesting.
not to mention that its only 13 dollars more than the dvd. hell when the dvd first came out i paid ~100 for it and thought it was worth every penny. id say this is one of the more correctly priced titles out
post #147 of 600
Anyone else got BOB Blu early? Just have to have more feedback!!
