IIRC the 30% off code requires 2 or more items and also i don't think it works anymore

ERBM8 is the 25% off code for october... makes BoB $60 shipped

I was surprised to get this today from WHV. It's not due out until 11/11/08.

Lucky!

It'll have to wait for me at least till release date. I'm anxious for it but I blew the budget the last two months with BDs. I'll stay tuned for your reviews. Thanks!

shadowrage,

Would you mind measuring the box? I want to see if it will fit on my storage shelves. Thanks!

Good timing that I saw this. I was about to step out.
Here are the dimensions.
7.25 x 5.75 x 1.75 in.

There you go, super quick roughly accurate box dimensions.

Alright, I saw the first episode. It looks fantastic. No DNR or EE that I can see. The grain is intact. Unlike most Blu-ray from WB, this one features high bitrate VC-1 encode (high 20s to 30s in most shots) with dts HD MA 5.1 audio. Get it!

That's exactly what the HD-DVD was, so perhaps it's the same master. Someone needs to do a A-B comparison.

I thought the HD DVDs were DTS-HD, not DTS-MA.
I have the Japanese discs but I'm too lazy to go look.
They're all the way downstairs

They are lossy DTS-HD High Resolution at @ 2046 Kbps 16-bit

Master Audio is part of the DTS-HD designation.

The bitrates seemed much higher than max rate for HD DVD.
Weren't the HD DVD's also AVC encoded not VC-1?

They are ~20 Mbit AVC (from bene's bitrate list)

the funny thing is i'd bet DTS-HD MA averages no more than 1Mbps more than the HR tracks on the HD DVDs

Yes, that would be very interesting indeed! I can't imagine Xylon not doing this comparison - hopefully for the folks that paid $200 and up for the HD-DVD's there won't be a difference (they are probably hoping there is and that HD-DVD is better) but you never know....!

I've got the HD-DVDs and the PQ is, in the main, truly superb. I can well imagine given that they only have DTS-HD on the audio side that the AQ of the Blus will be better, but would find it difficult to see how the PQ side could be improved upon. I've currently got the Blu set on pre-order here in the UK, but if the PQ of the Blus isn't up there with the HD-DVDs then I'm not sure spending £30 just for the extras and enhanced AQ is really worth it (especially in the current financial situation). Of course, if the PQ of the Blus is right up there with the HD-DVDs then I could always sell the HD-DVDs and maybe even make a profit!! I do love the series though and have loads of the books written on the 506 PIR from Stephen Ambrose's 'Band of Brothers' through to Webster's 'Parachute Infantry'. Dilemmas

I don't think you would be disappointed. It really is superb. I also played with BD 1.1 stuff. It's pretty well done with interesting popup info. There is two sets of 1.1 info, one with factoid, maps, and short PiP documentaries, and other with PiP survivor commentaries. I don't know why they couldn't combine the two, because in order to see one or the other, you have to restart the entire show. Hopefully these were true PiP and not double, or triple encodes.
