Band of Brothers - Page 2

I have got to say that I will buy this the day it comes out. And when I see its price cut once a month showing that I dramatically overpaid for it, it will be the first time I don't care.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

I will buy this as well. But, I'm curious. Why are people thinking it will be cheaper on BR? No competition usually doesn't mean it will be cheaper. It will probably be a direct port from the HD DVD anyway, but I hope not.
I really want it, but I wont pay more than $100.

$10 an episode is fair.

The HD-DVD version was a JPN import for Pete's sake. Of course it'll will be cheaper.

I won't hold my breath for this one. Although when it does actually come out, I will buy it assuming it ever does.

All the article says is that BoB on Blu-Ray "Is in the works" for later this year
post #36 of 600
I've never even seen this!

You can bet I'll be buying this in HD as soon as it hits Amazon.
great news, but I'm not sure I'll make the jump over the excellent-looking (and sounding) DVD version.

Maaaaaybe....
Well I tried it on SD DVD back when and lost interest while renting it. I didn't have upscale capability then so I think I'll give it another go and hopefully the second time around will be a charm with this series!
I too will be buying this the day it drops.

There was a previous thread that compared the HD DVD and the SD versions for those interested in what we'll be in for.

After watching BOB in HD on HBO as originally broadcast, I couldn't bring myself to get the DVD set. I'm really looking forward to this Blu-ray set.
I have the Japanese HD-DVD version.
For those of you who may not have seen BoB, it's an outstanding series.
And in hi-def, it's absolutely spectacular.
If it does get released on Blu, I'll double dip because it's a bit tricky navigating the menu in Japanese.
And I'll double dip because the series is THAT good.

And to think...and speaking as an old timer.....I remember when it was the other way around!

The quality of this miniseries goes without saying, and the audio/picture quality of HBO's DVD version was excellent, as expected. But what made the DVD even more outstanding was the packaging and the extras (I was especially impressed with those features that contextualized the narrative of BoB within the timeline of WWII). The whole package was Quality Writ Large, and I hope everything that was on the DVD is replicated on Bu-ray, along with whatever other extras are deemed worthy of inclusion.

A television masterpiece, definitely a must-buy.

I agree the movie and also the extras are both great on the original version. I can only hope that additional content, extras and interactivity are packed in the BR version. I'm looking forward to seeing a detailed announcements of what the boxset will contain.

It should be cheaper, but then again I cringe everytime I see the $129.95 msrp for 1/2 of season 6 of the sopranos.

great! now i'm glad I didn't fork out over $250 for the hd version

There was news today:

First of all, expect to see it in a special tin packaging, similar in design to the DVD version which has been out for around six years now. In addition, though, the content will be ramped up with digitally restored episodes, presented in DTS sound, and including new bonus material such as picture-in-picture commentary with the surviving members of Easy Company, as well as existing bonus material such as the Interactive Field Guide featuring timelines, maps, soldier profiles, and much more. There was also a mention of "In the Field with the Men of Easy Company," but there's confusion right now if this is a separate bonus item, or if it's a new name attached to an enhanced-for-Blu version of the Field Guide.

Hilarious. The show is only 7 years old and the Japanese HD DVD looked fantastic (just need a bit more video bitrate + lossless) and Warner is already attempting to "restore" it. I think we know that only means one thing... DNR. Probably to get rid of all that pesky grain.

I'm not regretting buying my HD DVD copy.
I was never able to get my hands on a copy of the HD DVD version, so this is great news to me.
I just received the HD DVD version from Xploited Cinema this past Friday and I have been able to watch the first 4 episodes so far. It's a major improvement over the SD DVD in terms of both picture and sound. I have no complaints about spending $200 on it. Amazing show + awesome PQ and AQ = BoB HD DVD. Hopefully, the BR release doesn't get DNR'd.
Only one word can describe this

SWEET

now if I could just get a Blu-ray player

Excellent. But, a release of Deadwood and Rome in Blu-ray would make me even happier.
Just happened to have finally finish the DVD set.
It looks and sounds excellent IMO.
Don't feel a need to update to BD for this title...

My complete HD DVD set was 14,965 yen (around $130-$140) when I got it on release day from Amazon Japan. That was the reasonable discounted price level it was going for in Japan last year.

<<< patiently waiting...waiting...waiting...

It's the only discs I've refused to loan to my friends, because they are essentially irreplacable at this point.
The HD-DVDs are fantastic--the crown jewel of my collection. Having already shelled out for the HD-DVD set (about $160), I doubt I'll go for the blu-ray. But if they do right by the blu-ray release, you guys are in for a treat.

And Mr. Oink, while the DVDs do look and sound excellent, if you are like many of us who watch this series probably once a year at least, it is well worth the upgrade to hi-def. It's that good.

Exactly how I lost mine. Was inbetween new jobs and lost track of it. Once the blu-ray set is in my home I can sleep again soundly
