XA2 Shutdown on Eastern Promises & Mr. Beans Holiday movies?

I have watched the Eastern Promises and Mr. Beans Holiday movies that I rented in Blockbuster online, both shutdown my XA2 player after 30 mins. or so. I have fw2.2 on my player and didn't upgrade it since I don't have HDMI receiver. I used 5.1 analog when watching HD DVD movies.

Other HD DVD movies I owned plays perfect, anybody have the same experience with me? What did you do to fix the problem?

BTW, the XA2 is a replacement given to me by Toshiba from the broken XA1.

I'd recommend updating to firmware 2.7, bitstream capabilities aren't the only things addressed in firmware updates.

Thanks for the reply. I read that thread and still found some shutdown bug complaints (particularly to Eastern Promises movie) even though they have upgraded the firmware to v2.7 or v2.8.

Are you using HDMI? Try turning on your XA2 and wait until the door will eject, or until the display changes to the timer before you turn on your receiver or tv. This is the XA2 shutdown bug workaround. The XA2 has to boot fully before it performs a handshake over HDMI. No firmware will fix this, so if it bothers you, I would send it back.

I'm connecting my XA2 directly to TV using HDMI. I watched 'The Kingdom' last night to see if the shutdown will occur again and it does. I guess, I'll try to upgrade the firmware to v2.7 and see what happen.

If the shutdown occur after upgrade, will send it back to Toshiba for repair. It's very disappointing to have a high-end component and yet a lot of trouble.

Mr. Bean's Holiday is the only disc that has given my A3 any sort of trouble. I washed the disc with warm water and a couple drops of Dawn dish detergent and that seemed to fix it, it plays fine now. Might be worth a shot, my A3 would freeze up at several points in the movie but after I washed the disc it it's fine.

I have upgraded the firmware of XA2 to v2.7 and hoping to fix the problem BUT the problem remain. I re-watched the movie 'The Kingdom' and also clean-up the disk and still shutdown the machine while playing.

I've called Toshiba and they will let me know what is the next action since this is a replacement of out-of-warranty XA1 player.
