The "Official" Canon Vixia HF10 / HF100 Owner's Thread - Page 123

I tried fixing the lever on an old FS100 which developed the same problem. The entire rear assembly had to be replaced since it's built as a single unit. Unfortunately, I screwed something up in the process, and the memory card slot was no longer working. I probably broke a contact in one of the Mylar ribbon cables.

That's the problem with most consumer electronics these days. They're "designed for the dump." As soon as they stop working, you might as well throw them out.

Afternoon, everyone. I currently own a HF10 and am thinking about getting the EnCinema 35mm adapter. What is a good, affordable, lens in which I should purchase to use with it? Anything wide-angle, even? Cheers.

Yeah - not sure it's designed for the dump so much as to be compact and when you try to cram that much functionality into that small a space you make compromises on serviceability. I actually wish the cameras weren't so compact. When you shoot with standard definition hadheld the general fuzziness of the image, I think, helps yours eyes accept irregular motion of the camera - but when you shoot nice crisp HD and watch on a big screen TV the fact that the camera has no mass is a disadvantage. I'd like the camera to be a little bigger - and maybe they could then make the interfaces of the component sections a little cleaner and allow some technical users to fix some of the simpler things like switch contacts. Heck with remote controls I've had good luck just taking them apart and rubbing the contact surfaces with a clean pencil eraser - and sometimes with switches for zoom that wind up getting used a lot that's the only real problem.
But making things smaller seems to be an obsession in the industry when some things have gotten about as usefully small as they can get.

I need to know if there is anyway to remove the FF/volume control indicator when playing back footage on a TV using an HDMI cable. The "display" button removes everything but that. Thanks in advance.

I use the Pixela software to record to Double Layered -r DVDS. I ran out and can't seem to find them anywhere, including online. Does anyone know where to get them?

Also, will the double sided DVDs work or do they have to be double/dual layered?

Thanks for any help

John,

Goto ebay and type in dvd -r blank in the search box. I found at least one seller with a 25 pack that way.

Failing that, just use pixela as a transfer program and go find a program that can use the +rs as well.

'Flipper' blanks? Didn't know they existed. They should work, as long as they are the -r type, and don't confuse the burner/reader. Personally, though, I would avoid them as an added complication...

Ive had my HF10 for a while. Always experienced the zoom by itself. This time, it happened on the tripod and ruined the whole shot. So I decided to google it and turns out this is a WIDE SPREAD issue.
Does anyone know if Canon will fix this ZOOM issue free since there seems to be alot of people with this problem?
Have tried numerous times over the last month. Nothing coming up on google except some "double layered". No one seems to carry the dual layered -r. Thanks anyway.

Wondering if anyone has found a source?

"Dual layer" and "double layer" is the same thing. "-R' and "+R" are different things. DL and double-sided are different things.

I'm looking for cheap wide angle lens for my HF100. I wonder if you guys tried the ones off eBay (my budget is $20, not to be over $30) or amazon 3rd party sellers?

I read a lot about vignetting so I want to make sure I find one that does not have vignetting. I don't want to always remember to shoot with a little zoomed in. Not to mention it defeats the purpose of having a wide angle lens at the first place.
For $20 it will be crap. It is better to spend this money for four of five burgers.
$20 is cheap but from some of the reviews, their quality is okay as long as I don't zoom in, which for the purpose of using wide angle is okay. But vignetting is not acceptable.

The cheap options are ALWAYS a macro lens + wide angle lens combo. Why is that? I am actually thinking of buying the "combo" and see if I can break the macro lens and leaving it only with a ring.

this might be a stupid question.. but when I record in cinema mode I don't get the black bars in my video when played back on the HD 40" lcd tv.. is this something I have to do myself in editing software? I have sony vegas 9 pro.. I thought cinema mode did it automatically

There is no relation between bars and cinema mode.

so I've made it to page 73 of this thread and am getting tired... can someone tell me the best way to make dvd-r to play in my panny blue ray player w/ sony vegas 9. I don't have the software that came w/ the camera because I got it used.. but I am able to copy the whole folder to the pc and vegas opens up the mts file.

is vegas compressing it when it opens it? (seems like people are saying this)

do I need a different editing program? I just don't want loss of quality on the discs..

I'm going to keep going through the thread later.. but if someone can save me some time that would be great.. thanks

1) If you do not want to edit, import the original MTS files into MultiAVCHD and author a DVD disc.
2) If you want to edit in Vegas, then export into "AVCHD 1080i" profie (you should get M2TS or MTS or TS files, I don't remember) and import into MultiAVCHD and author a DVD disc.

not sure I'm understanding this.. I do want to edit in Vegas... do you mean I import the mts file first as ( the only option I see is a Sony mts file) then render as AVCHD 1080i.. then import back into vegas as a multi AVchd

I'm trying to import under File / import / media.. I also don't see an multi avchd as an option... sony vegas pro 9

He was saying if you don't want to edit, then use that program to burn the raw, unedited files.

With the HF10 in Vegas, just copy the .mts files from the card/stream folder and then put them on pc and import into Vegas from pc.

would this Nikon 50mm f/1.8 D Lens work with my DIY adapter above?

does anyone know if i must use a Nikon 55-60 step up ring to a Nikon Macro Tube, or a Canon 55-60mm stepup to a Canon Macro Tube? can i just a generic 55-60 step up ring?

I wasn't able to locate the software that allows one to copy the files off the internal memory into the computer, not even on the pixela website. Would someone be kind enough to upload it? Please send me a PM. Thanks!

The video files (.mts) are in the stream folder (look through the folders on the card or internal camera drive). Just copy and paste them onto your hard drive, then open the mts files (that are now on the on your hard drive) into a program that can play or edit the mts files (AVCHD).

I tried it with Windows 7 but it seems to get stuck while displaying the files and copying. Also, if the video is long, it won't combine it seamlessly like the software does.

This freeware program will also join the files to make them seamless...

Maybe you might want to consider shooting to an SDHC card instead and copy the files while the card is in a card reader/connected to your PC. You could at least try it to see if the internal camera drive is the issue.
