For DVD-R Media - Have you tried Meritline (http://www.meritline.com/dvd-r-dual-...---c-7533.aspx - when I went scrounging for DVD-R just to support ImageMixer that's where I went - they're reliable with excellent customer service in the 5 years I've done business with them.

Here's the link to download Pixela Imagemixer 3 SE (last one at the bottom). You'll need your Canon serial # to activate it. You find it behind the battery.

Oh, and Dell sucks big time too. Don't even think about getting their financing. It's a robbery that is designed to make you pay several times the price of the product. They tell you the interest rate is whatever, but then they charge you "finance fees" up the clouds.
For years I have read post in computer and camera forums, about how Dell tells people yes it's in stock ready to ship.
Then charges their credit cards, and no product ships, when called they say oh it just shipped. This gos on and on with Dell using their money.
They end up having to call their credit card company to get Dell to refund get the money back.
Myself I won't deal with Dell or buy anything that is marked Dell.

I started a thread regarding locking exposure and white balance on the HF100. There are specific questions to the HF100. Instead of re-posting if anyone can answer, please do so. (You can answer in that thread or here if you want). Thank you:

Hi there,

I've had my hfs10 for about a year. It works great and I'm very happy with it.
BUT!
A weird problem has appeared over the past month or so. I power off the camera, and if it is picked up or is moved (sometimes even the slightest movement) and it powers on! What's up with that!?!
I have had my battery drained a few times because It has turned on during transport. It seems a bit extreme to have to remove the battery whenever I want to go anywhere with the camera. It is clean and it has never fallen or anything. It's not standby if you are wondering. Power is off. Even a day or two later I pick it up and the power comes on.
Has anyone heard of something like this? What could it be? Please help!

-Sam

I suspect your power on/off switch has a fault or short. If it's out of warranty, then I'd just remove the battery when not in use, as it will probably be expensive to fix. If it's still in warranty, get it fixed asap.

Here's some impressive footage shot with a Canon HF100 (not mine):

I found it. A little over $30 now but it was below $30 a while ago.

This is the best lens you can get for less than $100. Same 0.7x as WD-H37 II. 37mm threads. No needs for macro adapter. No vignetting. Very sharp.

I have had my HF 100 for 2 years and have transfered files off the SDHC cards to computer and to disks with success in the past. I have not transfered movies for a year and had card full for transfer. This year, the Imagemaker softwear keeps freezing and the program locks up Windows 7. I have to manually restart the computer each time. I downloaded the Pixela update from last year with no success. I have tried on 2 different computers both freeze. Is it the camera or softwear. If it is the camera, will a new Canon camcorder read the files from this past years movies. If it is the softwear, what program will pull the files from the camera/card? When the computer and camera are connected by usb, there is a warning on the camera screen against disconnecting the usb or powering off the camera. If the computer/ softwear freezes, is it safe to disconnect the usb/ camera. I have been powering down the computer each time it freezes first before disconnect the usb to help prevent loosing the files off the card. Any help appreciated.

Martin,

You didn't, by any chance, install, or have installed, a copy of Hali (Halii) Media Spliter during the last year? If you did, then this is quite likely to be your problem. Hali and Pixela fight each other. If you have, try to un-install the Hali program and see if that helps.

Or try to disable it. Going back through here will bring up those instructions.

Failing that, take the card out of the camcorder (much quicker anyway and Pixela will still see) and try to directly copy the files off of the card using Windows Explorer,

It won't re-join over long files but it will help you in getting the files off and seeing if the software is fighting something.

Thanks for the advise on removing the file directly. I'll give it a try. I haven't installed Hali.

Hi,

I just got a R100. I use it for sports and need to view the recording live on my PC. I can see a camcorder in the device file of win7, but that is all. I am using the USB port. I hope I have the corret forum. Thanks

I don't believe a camcorder like yours is capable of functioning as a webcam.

You best option is use the composite or HDMI output and couple it with a tuner card to be watched on a PC or TV.

FYI, it is at $28.xx right now. Wide angle adapter actually applies to a wide range HF series camcorders. IMO, any HF100 owe it to themselves to buy one of these. They are so cheap yet good quality. The HF10/100 can really benefit from wide angle. The color scheme also matches the HF100 PERFECTLY.

Does the image get blurry when you zoom in?
It does. But even the pricey one from Canon does.
Thank you pixelation for the info on the Sony wide angle lens. It's available for $26 and change at buy.com right now. I don't specifically need it, but at this price I decided it's worth getting just to try it out. It will probably be helpful when shooting video of the kids.

Greetings,

Over the last year, my camera starting "zooming" with a mind of it's own -- you would compost the shot, look up to observe the action, and when you looked back at the screen, the camera had zoomed all the way in.

I finally got around to sending it in for repair. Canon had the Camera for about 10 days, and repaired the problem for $232. They have a flat rate repair estimate -- its always $232 on this model, unless they open the camera and find water damage or corrosion etc.

Anyway, I found the service was good. Figured I would let those who were interested know!

My HF100 has the exact same "zoom creep" problem, which means there's clearly a defect with this model.

That's just ridiculous. There is absolutely something wrong with this model camera, and I think it's outrageous that Canon would charge anywhere near $232 to fix it.

I have not been in the market for camcorder ever since I bought the HF100. But I have seen many HD camcorder made by Canon/Panasonic/Sony selling at the $300-$500 range with features similar to the HF100. Why would someone pay $232 + shipping to repair a broken camcorder instead of just buying a new one?

Why not? It's still less than paying the 300-500 to replace it. Unless I get better features for that price, I'd probably look at the price difference before deciding to toss what appears to be a perfectly good unit, other than the zoom.

I have a Canon WD-H37 II Wide Conversion Lens ($176) and a Canon BP-819 Lithium Ion Battery Pack for HF10 ($76) and other accessories for this camcorder.

Hate to start over again, when the unit could be repaired and I could continue to use my acquired gear.

I was not thrilled to pay that much, but I was thankful they repaired it.

So what's the latest version of canon's software that will work with the HF10 and Windows 7? I've not made much use of the HF10 in the past year and have since replaced the old computer that used to run the Pixela abomination.

Has anything new come out of Canon for these cameras? Is the same crappy software still being shipped with newer models of it?

There is a recall on this issue. I sent my unit in and they wanted to charge me over $220. I argued with them for a long time and they mysteriously found the recall for the zoom. Fixed it for free.
Do a search on the web, a lot of issues with the camera zooming in.

The switch will not recognize that it is in video record.anyone have a blue print so i can try to fix it?
it will let me take pictures and view both video and pictures. but it acts as if there are 2 still photo markers for the switch

might have to buy a different recorder, since i have things coming up(such as my sons first birthday!)

I used my Sony wide angle lens for the first time yesterday at my daughter's birthday party, and I'm pleased with the results. It does have some barrel distortion, but I think that is common for wide angle lenses. Otherwise it looked surprisingly good to me. I didn't even notice any problems with zooming, although I think I only used the lower half of the zoom range.
