Emotiva UMC-1 (aka LMC-2) preorder thread - Page 9

Hey Guys!
I am 100% brand new to going separates, but I have been reading about EMotiva for some time now... I just don't think they are going to release their UMC-1 anytime soon. Can anyone recommend a nice processor for about the same cost as what they are selling the UMC-1 for? I am going to be purchasing EMotiva's 7 channel Amp and can't wait for that, but I'll need a processor too.

Thanks for your help and advice guys:-0)

Movies or Music?

Analog or digital connections?

one of the many feature rich AVRs with pre-outs will do very well as a pre-pro with your Amp.

Movies about 75% and music the other 25%. Connection wise, I forgot to specifiy that I also need at least 3 HMDI in, and I would be outputting to my Amp via analog, just because that's the only input type in the EMoltiva UPA 7 Channel Amp.

Hopefully I'm not saying anything out of line:-/

The pre-order list has been reopened. People who are on the original list will be getting their units in a couple weeks. People who sign up now will presumably be getting their units closer towards the end of Dec, early Jan. Is that not soon enough for you?

That would be fine, of course; I was reading on some posts that dated the release of this processor back 2007 - so with that in mind I just assumed, however, I did sign up on the pre-order list:-).

I take it you actually work for Emotiva or are a very loyal Emotiva customer. With your last half cocked statement, 'Is that not soon enough for you?' you took this a bit personal which actually tells me in a positive way that if someone is willing to take the time to reply with that statement, this must be a good product and/or company!

Thanks

Back to your original question: you would mainly be looking at either refurbished or used pre-pros for what a UMC-1 would cost new. Onkyo has a few models from recent years that are comparable in terms of features.

Another option would be to buy an AVR with preamp outputs. This would give you the flexibility of additional amplifier channels if you wanted to play with heights or wides, and would also give you something to fall back on if one of your amplifiers had a problem and needed to be serviced.

Thanks but my question about digital or analog was more about how you listen to music and not the pre-out signal. We all actually send analog out to our amps

I was asking if you use "Direct" or "Pure" when listening to music or do you just use DSP?

Since HT is 75% for you, I would recommend the Denon 2809, It has pre outs for your amp, it has Audyssey MultEQ XT and all the lastest HD stuff. Its dynamic volume, dynamic EQing is top end and its around the same price as the UMC-1.

Thank you! I am finding what you said regarding cost comparing to the UMC-1. I would defintatley have to get used or refurb. I also like the idea, of getting some AVR with preamp outputs to this Amp. I really do hope the UMC-1 really does come out this month It's exactly what I'm looking for, full feature HD everything for a great price.

Thanks again

Boy, I'm a bit embarrassed because I'm so new to this that I can't even answer if I listen Direct or Pure I have an Oppo BDP-83 that I use to listen to regular'ol CD's. I only have a couple SACD's. So that's how I listen.

Also, thanks for the Denon recommendation - I actually was looking at this exact model comparing it to the Marantz 6004. Can't wait to figure out what to do, but I'm getting tired, I just want to stick to something and go with it.

Some people are already getting the Integra DHC-40.1 processor for under $1k (+ no shipping) and it has more options on it and HDMI connectivity. It was close enough in price to be considered in the same range by me. YMMV.

And no its not a liability at all to eq all the subs off one single preout. In fact I find it much easier to get a smooth eq resonse. Multi subs allow for greater low frequency extension, while allowing for a lower low pass xover point. It also allows the gains to be set much lower allowing for a much more defined low frequency sound output.

Why would dual or tripple sub outputs be useless ? There are multiple signals that can be rerouted to subs with 3 subs outs you can have left, right and lfe or any mix of them. 3 different outputs also allows you to eq them per sub. My pre-pro has 3 sub outs and i can use them in all kinds of combinations and they not just the same signal split nor should they be.

Daniel.

Hi Kwtoxman,

May I know where I can find integra DHC-40.1 under 1k? Thanks.

I myself paid just over $1k at a local dealer I found on the Integtra website. I read that a couple of people got it for under $1k on thread in this forum so I recommend you ask the 40.1, 9.9 and 80.1 threads. They should see it.

I added my name to the preorder when it re-opened a week or so ago. One of the attractive features of the UMC-1 was the ability to output HDMI sources over component up to 1080i. Yesterday, line on the feature list touting this had something like "subject to Macrovision limitations" added.

Has anyone else noticed this? And does anyone know what these limitations are?

What's better on the HDMI connectivity?

Pre-recorded movies such as Blu Ray or upconverted DVD. The Macrovision is to prevent outputting to an analog source (like Component) to avoid copying the content.

As if anyone would actually do that when they can just duplicate the digital source far more quickly and with perfect accuracy. They're solving a 1980's problem with 1990's technology here in the 21st century.

It is mid November. Has anyone received their order for this Prepro?

fact is that probably they will do it as a any other maker because of the license. I would doubt very much if this pre-pro will output protected signals (that have hdcp coming in) at 1080i on its component out.

Hey Guys,
Does anyone happen to know if you can manually set audio delay just in case video and audio handshaking doesn't quite sync? Just don't wanna have leading audio to video lag, I'm asking this just in case

Thanks for any response!

Hi have done a search but can't find anything about it having internet radio. So is it safe to assume it doesn't?
Given that the UMC-1 has no ethernet port on the back panel, it's probably safe to assume that no internet radio or other network streaming features are planned for this unit.

I believe you can but in order to make sure, I would submit the question on the official Emotiva forum. They know so much more than I do. I am really looking forward to receiving this new prepro.

Has anyone actually ordered one yet? I was on the original pre-order but haven't received any word since the waiting list confirmation..

My understanding is that Emotiva is going to notify those on the waiting list when it's ready to be shipped and they're not taking orders until then. I'm sure the people who are at the top of the list would've made it known if they're currently taking orders.
