Newbie remote light dimming question

Thread Starter
I've read a few posts on here about various switches for remote light dimming, but have a question about required products.

I just purchased a Harmony One remote. I have a set of 3 recessed lights in my living room and one in the dining room (open floorplan). The dining room switch is standalone, and the three recessed lights are on two seperate switches (one for the sides and one for just the middle). All are currently on manual dimmer switches.

What would I need to buy and install to have all of these lights and switches be controlled from the Harmony remote?

Furthermore, I have the old style switched lights in various rooms in the house. If i wanted to make these dimmer lights, and also to be controlled from the harmony remote, what would I need to buy and would there be any crazy installation needed?

Sorry for the newbie questions but i'm brand new to this home automation stuff.

Thanks,

James.

Would this allow me to control each individual swtich seperately?

For parties i'd like all lights on, but for movie watching i'd like the kitchen off, the center eyeball light off, and the two side eyeballs dimmed but not off.

My understanding is that I could do this but would have to set up each switch seperately in the harmony remote, which is fine as long as I can do it.

Thanks.

The Lutron Spacer dimmers can store four separate 'scenes' plus 'all-on' and 'all-off'. But if dimmers are located together, they all respond at once to the remote command but can individually store different settings for the four scene commands.

(I hope that isn't confusing.)

So I will be mounting these all seperately, on seperate walls. From my understanding I will be able to create a "scene" and with a push of a button have all three of them do what they're supposed to do (dim, turn on, turn off, etc). And I can set up to four of these said "scenes"

correct?

Final question, i think...How many different switches can I set up in a specific "scene"?

If i've got 6 seperate switches, all located on different walls, as long as the remote can see the swtiches (because of IR limitations), they can all be included in that "scene"? or is a "Scene limited to 3 or 4 seperate switches"?

Thanks for all your help. I think i'm getting it

The remote can address an unlimited number of dimmers, so long as they can all 'see' the remote.

Each dimmer internally stores the four scenes plus full-on and full-off; So if you send "Scene 1" from the remote, they all go to their internal "Scene 1 setting", whatever that is.

Obviously if a dimmer can't see the remote it will not respond so in the worst case you'd have to shoot each dimmer/group separately.

My Harmony 880 is set with the following buttons:
  • All off
  • Scene 1
  • Scene 2
  • Scene 3
  • Scene 4
  • All Bright

Perfect. Sound like exactly what I need.

Thanks for your help!

Oops! I actually meant:
  • All Lights OFF
  • DIM <--- dim all from current level
  • Scene 1
  • Scene 2
  • Scene 3
  • Scene 4
  • BRIGHT <--- brighten all from current level
  • All Lights ON
