Anyone have HDDVD working right now? I updated to the latest PDVD8 and can't get it back.
just quick question, can I play blueray movies if I use my onboard sound as a DAC to output analog my receiver? While my video card is HDCP and outputs DVI -> HDMI to the receiver?

Should work, I have an HDCP video card and output the audio via analog out from my sound card.

Realtek HDMI_R213 audio driver
PowerDVD 8 with patch 2217aU installed
LG super multi blue drive
ASUS EAH4350 video card, hooked up through HDMI to
SONY STR-DG820 AV receiver

Using this setup, I am getting surround sound from PowerDVD playing blu-ray discs, as long as I configure PowerDVD for "8 speaker". The receiver says that it's getting LPCM 48 khz input signal and the audio sounds reasonably well.

However, if I try to configure PowerDVD to "use HDMI - PCM output", PowerDVD hangs as soon as I try to play any blu-ray disk...

Questions:

1. Am I missing anything in sound quality by using the "8 speaker" option in PowerDVD, rather than "use HDMI - PCM output", or both options result in the same quality signal being sent to the receiver?

2. Does anyonw know how to fix the PowerDVD 8 hang when using "HDMI - PCM output"?

Thanks!

HDMI/PCM output from PowerDVD is now working fine, after formatting the hard drive, re-installing Vista, PowerDVD and all the other software. Sigh...

Can someone confirm this?

Has anyone else noticed that in one of the recent updates, not sure which, they have reintroduced the PDVD7 config option to select resume/start from the beginning/prompt on re-insertion of a disc. Also, options have appeared to turn off all the MoovieLive/MoovieRemix stuff. PDVD8 is not so bad now!

In answer to the last query it still does not play HDDVD here.

I was having the same issue you had before, but a couple of reinstalls didn't fix it. I switched HDMI cables and now it's OK.

Something else though, are you getting correct channel mapping when you use the 8-speaker mode? I get back surrounds / side surrounds switched. When I use HDMI/PCM they are fine. But I'm almost sure this is an Nvidia driver issue (using the 9300 mGPU Asus board). It also happens with my 9200m GS laptop. I think the HDMI/PCM mode bypasses the channel assignment of the driver, and who knows what else. It's close to a PCM "bitstream", I guess. PowerDVD takes advantage of the "allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" option when using HDMI/PCM.

Not a good way to start out with new software.

I have uninstalled reinstalled.
checked vista updates on their website..under support.
completly uninstalled and cleaned the registry of old trial version of powerdvd7.
-Don't know what else to try.

I have the same problem. I found an older version of PowerDVD 8 that works for me, but I would like to upgrade to the newest patch. The older version has some obvious bugs.

I'm using XP sp3, so it sounds like this problem may be OS independant (alive_pixel reports using Vista)

Yes, some progress made! Thanks Jorge on Cyberlink forums!

When I changed the nvidia control panel output to 1080i, PowerDVD began to work. This is not perfect, as my display is native 720p, so i would ideally like to output in that format for my media center, but I am happier none-the-less!

Link to the cyberlink thread in the next message (tx gsr)...

I've just noticed that the keyboard shortcut for "Play" (enter) no longer works. I am on the latest update (2217a) and have used the registry entry mentioned earlier in this thread to get all the other keyboard shortcuts working, but this one stubbornly does not. Anyone found a solution? "Space" pauses and un-pauses, but that is not quite the same as how "play" used to work.
There are newer builds 2430 and 2521 from what I have heard. Why won't they post updates for download for these builds?

Has anyone seen a link?
Anyone notice that 2217a also stops you calling a file from the command line. With all previous versions, including 2217 you could call
Code:
powerdvd8.exe "c:\\dvds\\movie\\video_ts.ifo"
. With 2217a this no longer works. Don't know if the newer builds only available via support fix this. From what I have read they do not seem to fix anything else!
Yeah, dont hold your breath. When they break something, its usually for good... until a completely new version comes out. Next planned release is version 8.5 per Cyberlink support.

Well they did (eventually!) allow you to get rid of all the movieee nonsense in PDVD8 and choose what you want to happen when a disc is re-inserted, so there is some kind of hope!

They don't fix much, I haven't seen any differences between those two, and if you're using HDMI out, they introduce a couple of bugs.

I know this doesn't help you but I'm running 2217a (DVD081201-06) on a WinXP SP3 system and all keyboard shortcuts including 'ENTER' works for me. I did not have to make any registry changes as all was setup already.

The new 2521 drivers are up on the main download page for any that are interested.
To whoever is interested 2521:

- still has broken BD keyboard commands (without registry edit)
- still does not accept key as an alternate for clicking on the play button even with the registry edit
- still will not play DVDs ripped to a folder from the command line (or play DVDs if you double click on the .ifo file when .ifo is associated with PDVD8). In both cases PowerDVD8 displays "no Disc inserted in drive x:/" where x:/ will vary from system to system (it is the lowest DVD drive I think).

....and it still has not fixed the problem with playing back Stargate Continuum (UK edition). In fact it has gone from the disc loading intermittently (roughly 50% of the time) to never loading!

I've decided to switch to using PowerDVD7 again, which is unaffected by all these problems!

Updating from the last build, suddenly it wont play blu-ray and all the audio options are grayed out, as is the blu-ray region code. Good work Cyberlink!

Yep, I have the same problem since 2430. Let me guess. When U try to play a BD disc it gives you an internal error. What is your OS?

No, I just get the message that the disc in the drive is an unsupported format. Rolling back it is ok so obviously a **** up with the patch, just like the last time they screwed blu-ray playback.

Yes me too. Please try the following. Run PowerDVD in WinXP SP2 compatibility mode. It does work for me but only as long as I do not wanto to switch chapters or jump to another place in the movie. PDVD freezes when I do this.
My Spec:
Vista SP1 Ultimate 32bit
ATI Catalyst 9.1 video driver
Realtek HDMI_R200 audio driver
PowerDVD 8 Ultra with patch 2217 installed
PowerColor HD4850: AX4850 512MD3-DHO
Yamaha RX-V663
(before install patch 2217, HDMI out are available from speaker setup option list, after installed only until 7.1 channel speakers, HDMI removed)

Issue:
PowerDVD able to run, then click mute, volume up/down it's ok.
but when click setup or play any harddisk file or from any DVD disc.
windows prompt "PowerDVD 8.0 has stopped working"

My Workaround:
1. disconnect HDMI cable.
2. disable HDMI driver in Control Panel | Sound.
3. Set default back to Analog Sound.
it's worked in this way.

izzit Cyberlink confirm no fix for HDMI issue in PowerDVD8.0? only fix in next version 8.5?

any friend here please help me any solution or workaround? thanks~

It seems that the guys from Cyberlink got fed up with us using their H.264/AVC Decoder in MPC and other players separately. So, after installing the latest 2521 patch I've found out that this decoder is no longer registered in the system. So, if you really like this decoder and want to continue to use it, do not install 2521 patch.

I wonder what else they will break in the coming Power DVD9...

So I raised a support issue with Cyberlink and their solution? a manual uninstall, which was unnecessary as the uninstall process had already done everything they asked me to do.

The provided a link to a full version of 2521 which I installed and it still didn't work.

So....I went to support again, and their response, get this....exactly the same as before, but with a download link for version 2020, approx 3 or 4 versions earlier than the working version I currently, 2217a.

So rather than provide a solution, or accept there is an issue that I and everyone else is having with the broken blu-ray codec, they fobbed me off with a bloody earlier version.

Cheeky ****s.

At last an admission.....

'In response to your concern we have reported the issue with 2521 build to the product development team and they are working on to resolve that very soon.

As soon as we resolve the issue with the new build, we will post that on the website. '

I have sent them a ticket too regarding my region code issue.

Have a look at the pics, it's funny.
