This way you can operate your TiVo without having to turn the receiver on...unless you chose to turn it on.

Thanks I'll give that a try. s/pdif is the optical out correct?

I'm sorry, yes, that's correct. A lot of us home audio ol' timers have gotten used to addressing optical/coaxial outputs by the acronym for Sony/Philips Digital InterFace.

Have had no luck getting this HDMI updating further. Anyone who may remember or maybe done HDMI update lately - is this missing any command which may kick it off?

That's what the Updater log shows and I think it should start updating now, but for me nothing happens. What makes this a puzzle is that I had it updating twice earlier until it stopped.

There's a 'manual' button where I could enter it (I think.. never had to before).

did you install the updater or run the updater from the hdmi fw folder?
what you have above is what I experienced when I installed the software..

is it possible to use a cd-rw or do i need a cd-r.

i tried to use a cd-rw and played it on my ps3 but the display on the onkyo only said s/pdif update all the time for about 5 minutes. i took out the cd and the pds firmware was not updated only restored to factory settings.

Is there any settings i need to do on the ps3 or the onkyo when i connect the optical cable?

Not to be snarky or anything, but it really does help to actually read these threads. The 4th post on the previous page addresses the update-via-PS3 issue in detail.

i saw that, thanks anyway Now its updated to 1.04+dsp1

I did mail onkyo to get to know what have been updated from 1.01 to 1.04 but the only thing he told me is that if i want to update i must send it to the local onkyo dealer.

He didn't answer my question so i will post it here.

What is better with the 1.04 firmware and what have been updated on this and the dsp update.
I noticed that after i did the dsp and main firmware upgrade i get audio dropout for 1 sec when looking at tv and a analog cable conected to the onkyo.

Someone that can confirm these problem?

i am using onkyo tx-sr876

Thank you very much, but the ftp only contains 1.08 main firmware, I need 1.04 or 1.05 to downgrade from 1.08 and try to fix losing configuration error.

The link I look for is the one in first page called 805 1.04 files, but its broken.

See if this one works for you. Check thoroughly before installing.

Thanks again, but this update pack has only 1.08 main firmware files, it is the pack called new update iso for all xx5 onkyo series of the first page. The pack needed is the one linked before this and older than july 2009.

What a pity, I thought it could be version 1.04!

It's highly unlikely you're going to be able to find 1.04/-.05 at this late stage, as they are both outdated. That's probably why no one has responded yet with the actual firmware. If you are getting communication errors resulting from a 1.08 install, my bet is that it has more to do with the install process itself and less to do with the firmware. If a 1.08 re-install doesn't (or won't) solve your problem, you may need to send it in to Regional Service.

As a last-ditch alternative, the only thing I can think of is that you might want to contact a member by the name of Joerod, another O/I firmware contributor who is now part of AVS's sales and technical support team. Though he's rarely seen in the two O/I firmware threads these days, he is still around the Forum and may be able to help you out.

I have a folder named: DTC9_8MainFW_v1_05.zip

I used this way back to update my Integra DTC 9.8, but I think it may be the same FW used on xx5 Onkyos Anyway, I'm happy to send it to you if it helps.

Its not a problem with flashing, its simply 1.08 update can generate eeprom or losing configuration error on 805. I have contacted with service point here in Spain, and they told me simply to downgrade to fix the problem, but didn't send me 1.04 files, cause they have to receive the files from Onkyo and these ones usually take a lot of time to send any files, that is the reason why I am here trying to find help.

I have just contacted Joerod and he told me he doesnt have the files any more. I have contacted Gurkey by pm too, but he didnt answer yet.

Anybody knows if I can use onkyo 875 1.04/1.05 files to downgrade 805?

Thanks, mjmbond, I have just posted a question about this and wait for someone to answer if I could use those files to downgrade my 805 without breaking the receiver...

Hi again vmanuelgm. I took a harder look at the first page of this thread and it appears that my v 1.05 FW files won't work

If I'm reading it correctly, the 805's aren't "DIY."

They are DIY if you have bootloader 1.01. If you don't have that bootloader you need the "dongles" to upgrade to 1.01. They will NOT work with firmware 1.00.

I found this on another website you can try it if you like. You have to enter your e-mail and serial # along with the model to download 1.04. Its worth a try. Good luck.

As the man in the post said he had trouble with it also but was able to access it by dropping the last digit in his serial number. Try that and see if it works. I don't have a 875, I have the 876 or I would try it for you.

Actually, it's not the 1.08 firmware per se that's generating the EEPROM/configuration errors. That only occurs when (a) the explicit instructions for doing the update are not followed to the letter, or (b) if one has a defective EEPROM chip, common among the early 805 models. Even if you flash with 1.04/-.05, it's important that one does a complete factory reset before commencing with the actual install and doing a hard reset (unplugging) once the update is complete. And so if your EEPROM chip is indeed defective, you'll likely have the same result even with 1.04, though it definitely can't hurt to at least try provided you're able to locate it.

It's not surprising that Onkyo reps would advise you the way they have, as they generally provide ZERO assistance on all matters DIY save for the DSP (DTS Bomb) update. Truth be told, they didn't send you the files because, quite simply, it's their policy not to.

Lastly, I personally would never advise anyone to use firmware that doesn't specifically correspond to one's own model.

There must be someone here that has 1.04 files for my onkyo...

Was I supposed to have a RS232-usb cable with my onkyo876 or do I have to purchase that myself? Where do I purchase?
