2 trips to Menards for screws and washers, a dead car battery, a trip to Home Depot and finally a trip to True Value. Also, the shakers didn't fit in the same spot as in Jamis' 13175s. Once I actually got the correct screws it didn't take me that long to get the first one installed. I still have to test it out to make sure it shakes the chair enough.

I got 4 more bass shakers installed today, so I now have 5 of 8 done. I also temporarily hooked up a spare receiver to make sure it moved the chair how I wanted. So far so good. Here's some pictures and a description of the mounting method.

When I opened up my chairs I realized there wasn't enough space to mount the bass shakers like Jamis did in his 13175s. I did find that I could slide them in behind the back part on the bottom. There was enough room there between the wood and the actuator for the recline mechanism.

I had to drill through the bottom of the back, so I used a bass shaker on the outside as a template.

Once I had the holes drilled, I flipped the bass shaker over and slid it behind the back and put 4 machine screws in it. I then put a washer and a lock washer and held it in place with a hex nut. I mounted them crooked for two reasons, one was to keep the height down. There is a small part which has to stick up above the wood I was mounting to and I wanted to minimize that to keep the bass shakers away from the chair backs. Also, the way the wood is setup, if I rotated it slightly I could get two of the four screws to cover the deepest part of the wood. One on top and one on the bottom. That gave me the most stability that I could get.

Here's some shots of them completely in place from a few different angles:

And finally a shot with the back covering back in place.

Also, a couple shots of my son 'helping' me.

Uh-oh.. I'm already seeing dust on that black carpet I talked to my wife today about getting a small portable vacuum just for the theater. My 6 year old says he wants to be the theater manager. The funny part about it is that he says he needs a uniform and a mustache to do the job.

Very clever install!

Me likey.

I got one more bass shaker installed today after work. I'm trying to figure out what I want to buy to power them. I'm currently leaning towards a Behringer A500 amp. I looked at the subwoofer plate amps, but they are a little less easy to fit into a shelving/rack system.

I ordered some Buffalo stuff for an IR repeater system. I need to get that setup quickly as I am already tired of running into the equipment closet to make any changes to the music in the room.

guamguam,

Your project is looking great, you have made quite the progress since I first looked in on your build. I like the carpet/color combinations.

Thanks. I'm still plugging away. I'm going to try to finish installing the last two bass shakers tonight as I need to get ready for a delivery scheduled for tomorrow.

I think I need to hold off on ordering stuff for awhile as I got an email from my wife complaining about how everything for the theater costs at least $200. I have the ok to order the projector whenever I want, but I think it will be at least a few more weeks before I'm ready for that. I really want to finish some more stuff in the room first.

I got my last two bass shakers installed in record time after I got home from work today. Now I should be ready for my new rear and surround speakers to show up tomorrow.

I would like to set the record straight - there was no complaining, simply stating a fact.

OK, who keeps teaching these wives how to use the internet?

Hmm..the wives have infiltrated. This explains why I have a valence showing over this browser window now. Weird.

I'm surprised she picked this time to finally register and respond to my thread. I personally thought it was going to be after this comment:

She does read my thread often and makes comments to me about it. Also she has really been great in letting me get the things I've wanted for the theater room and basement, but I think she's just getting ready for it to be done. I think she's sick of seeing all of the little things that I 'need' to order to make it happen.

My new speakers arrived via FedEx today. I ordered them on Sunday and got them this afternoon. You can't be that especially when the shipping is free. I've been following the products at Emotiva for awhile now and finally decided to try them. I ordered two pairs of the ERD-1 surround speakers.

Pics of the boxes:

They came extremely well packaged. They were double boxed and secured inside the inner box with some thick foam. Also the speakers were enclosed in individual felt bags.

Here's the contents of a box:

Two mounting brackets, the speakers, and another set of speaker grills. I think I remember reading the original grills had a problem so they redesigned them. I think they must have a bunch of stock of the old grills because they still come on the speakers.

And here's the speaker with the grills removed:

I stopped by Lowes this evening and bought some drywall anchors so maybe I'll be able to hook up and mount some/all of them this evening after my son is in bed.

I got one set of speakers installed tonight. They went up nice and easy with the supplied wall mounts. I didn't mess around with them much, but I did test them and they work.

To install the mount, I simply leveled the mount where I wanted it, marked 4 holes, inserted the drywall anchors and then screwed the mount into the anchors. Took only a few minutes. I spent more time stripping the wire and getting it into the binding posts of the back. I don't think they are designed for 10 gauge speaker wire, but I was just barely able to get it to fit.

The grills are a little strange to me as they attach with magnets, but it seems to work easy enough. I might try to install the other pair for my side surrounds tomorrow night, but I can't promise anything as the national championship game is on.

I'll be very interested in hearing your review of the Emotiva speakers. I had looked at them once, but only once. For the price of their equipment, I think it would be hard to go wrong.

That's how all of my Klipsch grills are as well.

You can come over and take a listen sometime if you'd like.
