Hopefully this means I'll have more time to watch movies.

Congrats! That is a big step!

I'm waiting on my test results from my Professional Engineering exam. 6 more weeks to go!

Congrats! I believe having your MBA does mean more time for movies. I know all the MBA's where I work have enough time to just sit around and do nothing but look important.

Congrats - welcome to the club. I'd show you the secret handshake, but I don't remember it

I've got to take some updated pictures and get them posted soon. I've finished up a lot of little things and have hung some artwork in the theater room. The big news is that Warren included my theater in his latest volume of his home theater disc through AVS. Please check it out if you get a chance.

Thanks. We just had my wife's parents, aunt, uncle and grandfather over this weekend. We watched Iron Man and everyone loved the movie and the theater.

Hopefully this week, I'll get updated pictures of the room posted.

Theater looks great. I finally watched the whole HT Revealed disc and thought we all did a good job in front of the camera. My wife sure enjoyed watching and laughing at my segment. She is now grounded from the video due to too much laughter.

I finally got around to ordering a plate amp for my bass shakers. I just finished making a box to hold it. Here's what it looks like:

Now for the stupid question of the day. It came with some spade terminals to attach to the speaker wire. Do I need to solder these, or can I just twist the wire around the metal part of the terminal.

Those are crimp on connectors. As long as they are tight they should work fine. But I prefer to solder the speaker wire directly to the speaker terminal. I would not just wrap the bare wire around the speaker terminal of the bass shaker. Use the crimp connectors or solder.

Thanks,

I crimped the wire onto the connector and then put the connectors onto the terminals. I think it should hold. The good news is, it will be easy to get at it if I have a problem.

I was very impressed seeing your theater today during the Crawl. Performance and appearance were phenomenal... pictures alone do not do it justice. Thanks for sharing the fruit of your hard work. I especially enjoyed the Monsters vs Aliens clips for some reason. If you dial those bass-shakers back a bit, I would have nothing to suggest for improvement. I absolutely loved it.

Yeah, it's definitely an awesome looking and sounding room! All the hard work really paid off! Yet another room that makes me want to do some serious upgrading in the sub department.

Oh, and I forgot to mention it yesterday, but hook up that sub amp to an X10 appliance module so you don't have to climb under the stairs to plug it in and unplug it every time!

Hey Nate, Are you going to hook up that new fancy PJ you won from AVS? I sure would to do some comparisons

Nate - awesome job on your HT! I read your thread as you were building, great documentation that helps guys like me.

I have a question on your stage - why did you go with only a half stage? You may be one of the first that did that here. Just curious.

The only other question I have is why is your son a Badger fan, if you're in Iowa? He has good sports taste...

I did the half stage because I was doing the stage for looks only and couldn't see the point of extending it all the way to the back. If it went all the way to the back, I would have felt like I should have put sand in it so the speakers and sub would have a solid platform to sit on. It was also a cost savings for me: less lumber and less carpet to buy. In the end, I haven't had any problems with it, so I'm happy. My speakers are on cinder blocks to get them high enough. That only cost me about $5 to do.

The reason he's a Badger fan is that I was born and raised just outside of Madison and I'm a third generation UW grad.

How is the color holding up, I'm also considering the SW 7584...?

Great job by the way.

The SW paints are great. I've used them in another room in my house now too and am really happy with how they apply and wear. I would definitely get the same paint again if I had to do it all over again.

A few months ago, I started a real poster collection for my theater and outside hallways. I've been meaning to get some photos up for a long time, so here they come. I got the frames from www.frameusa.com. I then got some non glare glass from a local glass shop. The posters all came from various dealers on ebay. My wife and I are very happy with how they turned out. We get lots of comments about how it doesn't even look like there's anything in front of the poster, the glass is really hard to see.

On the side I have 2 14x20 posters:
