FIZZITUP Poor man's Soda Fountain?

Anybody here used these things?

It seems to get decent reviews.
Currently out of stock (amazon and other sources), though I think I found 4 of them if I move fast enough.


Too easy? Too good to be true? Too cheap?

Any feedback would be great.

For an extra $20, I could make it electric so you don't have to push down the little lever, either.

I think I am going to give it a shot. I'll see what I can come up with on some sort of artistic implmentation.

Supposed to keep the fizz, that alone would be worth it. But the pour thing is not so workable if you want a re-fill during the flick with no paused intermission involved.

Right now guests take a few glasses out of each bottle of the soda of their choosing and rest goes to waste. I tried cans, but nobody really seemed to like that. Their is not enough soda consumption here to put any sort of money into a real soda fountain, plus I am bad space limited where I wish the snack acquisition and soda refilling to take place.

These things dont work at all. A few years back, I bought this thing that basically replaced the cap on a 2-liter bottle. It was supposed to prevent the carbonation from escaping and the bottle going flat. It worked about as well as an OJ Simpson sting operation.

So there just may not be a better mouse trap to be built here?

Just curious what would be wrong with getting a foutain and letting it sit until you are ready to use it with the syrup in it? Aside from the cost that is.

With all of the planning, I'd think it would just be easier to unscrew the cap, pour, and rescrew.

Maybe.. Do you have a link to the most compact system there is?

I was told that for occasional use, they (traditional CO2 driven fountains) just are not a good option. And this was from a seller.

Not to much planning here. A shallow shelf so you can get your glass under it, is it at this point. Any artistic endevour with it would only be after it has proven itself functional.

Well, right now. I can say that unscrew, pour, and re-screwing the cap on, Seems OK during an intermission. But in the low lighting of how / where I want it to work while the film is running? It just doesn't really workout to well.

But then I am wasting quite a bit of soda doing it this way as well.

Just seems if it works, it could kill two birds with one stone so to speak.

My wife and I don't drink it at all. Only guests and we don't really have guests very often.

This came down the pip because I just realized I wasted four 2 liters of soda. They have been sitting there for two weeks, each with just a little bit gone.

I cracked the cap and no fizz, nadda, zippo.

More seriously - To keep the soda from losing its fizz, it should be stored capped, cold and pressurized. I believe you can buy caps that allow you to repressurize the bottle (like a pump).

At least it's not going to cost me very much to find out.
Nobody seems to have any direct experience with this particular product right?

mm_hokie? So that is about one bottle per glass? I don't think that is the path here either as we went from cans, to smaller bottles, to the 2 liters.

I'll just be the guinee pig on this one.


I got some new pics to post.

My wife got me a marquis for an anniversery present. Under it we came up with a simple false ticket booth idea. I added some exit signs, I added a full 4 curtain masking system to the screen, put a black curtain across my equipment rack, and purchased a new Popcorn machine. I have also been looking at Hot Dog rollers as a couple of times it was obvious some guests were hungry or became hungry and candy / popcorn just wasn't cutting it for them.

Keep in mind all this has to go into a very small space...

I need it all to fit in this space... This would be my last pic of what we now use for our snack / drink self serving area.

The complaint with the cans was "No Ice" I think the cup, straw and ice is a big part of the theater soda experience for many.

I had one of these, and it worked fine... Until the dishwasher melted it.

That's encouraging on the keeping the fizz in aspect of it. Maybe not such a good idea to wash them in the dishwasher too. Check....

This is the real problem. Unpressurized head space in a partially-empty bottle will allow CO2 to come out of solution. This little gimmick won't keep the soda carbonated. You need to force air (or CO2!) into the bottle to keep it pressurized.

You can buy used ("refurb") Corny kegs online, get a CO2 cylinder and regulator, and set up your own keg system for relatively cheap. Homebrewers do it all the time for beer, and if they "brew" root beer, it works for that too. I don't know how well it would work filling the kegs with commercial soda (I think it would be OK), and of course you need to refrigerate the entire keg, which might be a challenge. (I've got all the parts except the temperature regulator for the chest freezer...)

I had not had it on since changing projectors and screens since last august and it got a little taddered and wrinkled in storage.

Description:
I cut an 8' 2x3 in half. Painted the top half flat black. It became the rod that holds black side curtains. The 2nd half I stapled fabrick to it and I rest it on C clamps for 2.35:1 and wider, I actually rest it on my center channel when doing 4:3 or 16:9 materal to it's completely off the screen.

For the top, I stapled the fabrick to a decently substantial piece of quarter round trim and simply roll it up and down as needed for 2.35:1 or wider. It barely made it for Ben-Hur with the video shifted down to meet the normal 2.35:1 bottom mask, but it worked fine. I have to use a small step stool to adjust the top mask.

I really need to pull it all down, and re-him(sp?) some it and Iron it at minimum, if not out right replace some of the fabrick. I wish I had put it back up last August.

Well... Aside from the Soda dispensing, I must say I think I had most of my snack area issues solved.

My wife actually drew up exactly how she wants it. And the drawing looked way cool!!!

Her idea is to piece together the entire thing with shelving comming out from the wall (remember extreme limited space available). I had been skeptical of this giving me the look I wanted, but man, her drawing really looked good. And the idea is hella cheap which is always a good thing in my book.

Just an update?

We are pretty much digging these fizzitups.. I got 4... They work really well, and no leakage so far as in no drips when you shut them off.

After 10 days now, the fizz is definetly still in the bottles and they actually look pretty cool in my concession area. Super easy dispensing / fill ups on soda.

So I guess I am saying, I endorse this product as a poor man's soda fountain.

PS: The theater should be full up for "Cloverfield" tonight.
