Samsung LCD

...VERSUS...

Samsung LED DLP

(((If you want to skip my "story"... then please just skip to the questions section)))

OK, I tried to compair on the Samsung website.... what a mess that was.

At any rate, my Mits WD52525 (52" Bulb DLP) is finally dead and I've lucked out as I had a 4yr BB PSP that only had about 6mo left... and now they've said that they'll replace my TV for a new one (huzzah!)... I'm between the above models right now and need some more opinions/info/reviews/etc.

First, I didn't mind my Mits DLP so in general DLP is certainly on the list... viewing angles didn't bother me much and I would assume they are better now than they were about 4 years ago. I also like that I can get a much larger TV for the price.... but of course price doesn't matter much until we get over $3,700 the price of my original TV and the price that I can go up to for "free".

I like all the features of DLP in general as well... and going bigger than my previous TV would be a nice plus.... BUT I need some questions answered first....

((Questions))

Does anyone know if either/both of these TVs do correct Deinterlacing? I seem to remeber something about TVs also having issues doing "true 1080p" vs a doubled up 1080i... any thoughts on that as well?

Per BB, the LCD has a 4ms response time... anyone know if this is G-G or B-W or if it's using an overdrive of some kind?

Do LCDs have any issues with burn in? (haven't looked into that before)

I do play games (Wii, 360, PS3 and also HTPC) such as Guitar Hero, Burnout, Halo, Zelda, etc... will either set give me any motion blur or issues with screen tearing or ripped images on fast movements?

How long do the back lights last for LCD (I know they dim at least)... also I know the LED DLPs are rated around 60,000 hours... do they also dim?... would it be very noticable at say 30,000 hours or would I simply be able to increase birghtness, etc of either set to help?

Of course I'd love to read any 3rd party "professional" reviews (prefer not to read 100 customer reviews).

thank you tons for any help in this.... I'd probably just get the DLP, but the "reset issues" in the main thread have me a bit worried... of course I'll be getting another PSP (I know they're a bit expensive... but I've always had good dealings with exchanges and replacements at BB for many items and my TV is just the latest). Also, since the DLP is a bit cheaper than what I paid... I'm hoping to get some type of store credit for some or all of the remaining balance.

TK.

I wouldn't worry about the reset issues. You have a warranty and Samsung will fix it.

But, for $3700 you could get a 73" Mitsubishi DLP, if you really want to go big. Otherwise, for your usage, the 61" DLP seems better suited than an LCD, IMHO

There's also the 67" Sammy LED due out soon.

Thanks for the replies... I'd do the Mits, but I really want to go LED to avoid the bulbs and I think Samsung is the only one doing LED right?... if there are larger LEDs from another company I'll for sure consider it.

I'd love to wait for the 67" LED as well... but from reading the thread it sounds like the the LEDs aren't as bright as the bulbs and I'm a little worried about loosing some brightness to the larger size...

Also, wouldn't I have to wait another 2 months for the 67" sets?... the wife is already giving me looks since we've been without a TV for about 6 weeks already, lol.

... I wonder how easy it would be to get the 61", then return it for an exchange when the 67" is out??

Man BB is replacing the set up to the full paid value! That is awesome. My warranty company is still trying to fix mine, and my chassis was just sent to Mits, with my shell of a TV just taking up space in my office. It's been in and out of the shop for the last three months.

If I were you I'd stay away from the bulbs. From talking with the service guys, they said the newer DLPs with bulbs don't last nearly as long as our old Mits did. I am still on my original bulb after three years.

And if I had $3700 to spend, I'd stay away from rear projection altogether. Granted you get a size advantage for the price, but you can never get rid of the pin cushion completely. It'll never look as good in daylight. 1:1 pixel mapping is harder to achieve. And it just looks archaic next to a true flat panel.

I'd go with the sammy LED LCD flat panel. The LN-T5281F. Right now one call has it for $3700 with free shipping. If Best Buy will price match, it'll be right at your limit. Although, I don't know if they'd price match a TV they are giving you, but you could try.

That was my original understanding from corporate... but of course the manager at my local BB isn't moving much... they were trying to only allow me the lowest amount of what my TV cost before taking out of their system... which was 1599... ouch... I paid 4000.

After some deep discussion about how I had basically bought top of the line at the time and now they're trying to replace it with the lowest of the low... I did get them to up the amount to the current 61" LED DLP price... so I'll probably just go for that. It's the one I wanted anyway.

I may wait until the 67" is out and then pay a little more out of pocket to get it.... I'll post another thread about that and link it here.

Do you know the price/release date of the Samsung HL67A750?... please tell me here...

Thanks again for all the help.
