Need Info On Connecting HSU sub to 5080 Kuro

Ok I got the HSU VTF-1 recently and want to take advantage of the sub out on my Pioneer 5080. I certainly plan on getting a new receiver soon, but $$ constraints are going to mean that it may be a few more months before I get the whole 5.1 rig up and running. So in the meantime I want to make sure I am doing this correctly. What audio setting do I need to have on the tv? Also should I set the bd player for 5.1 or 2 channel? the soundbar kind of confuses me a bit. Also, do I need to use a Y connector to make use of both left and right inputs on the sub or is using just the left the best way to go? Also, should I go with 1 port open or both on the sub? Any help would be appreciated.

I have a 5080 aswell, not using the sub port but I can tell you that the " Surround Sound " is artifically projected since it uses the SRS technology.

I would set the output on the source to standard stereo sound and let the TV do its thing since it cant replicate individual true surround channels.
