Official Samsung LNxxA530 Owner's Thread - Page 2

Nevermind about my previous post.. I saw one briefly today at London Drugs... it looked very nice and the regular price is very attractive. I will have to go back and look another day when I have more time to analyze it. They also have the 650s so I can compare.

The 530 looks pretty good indeed and a bargain at that price (1,899$ at BB). I remember buying a Sammy 4051D (720p native) almost 2 years ago for 2,499...

Thanks for the info guys. I'm new to the forum and am eyeing one of these up today at a local shop, they have them on sale this week for an unbelievable price and I was almost ready to drop the hammer on the spot. I wasn't familiar with the 530 series though so I held off and after scouring the web the past few hours (pretty much since I got home from the store), I think I'm ready to stop and bring one home tomorrow Should be quite a step up from my 10 year old 52" Toshiba rear projection set, it's served me well but it's time to move on. Thanks again for the info/impressions, I rather hear a review of it from someone who has dropped the $$ on it than someone who's a "professional" reviewer.

Hey guys, looks like CNET just just posted a review of the PN50a550 (plasma version), it had a very good review. I still love my a530

The ASIA version of CNET also posted a review for the 46a550P1 (the P1 series in Asia is similar to the 530 series in Canada [i.e. Side mounted speakers, touch sensitive buttons, etc])

http://asia.cnet.com/reviews/home_av...186448p,00.htm

Actually on second thought, I'm not too sure this is the same as the 530 series in North America.

The reviewed model looks like it has a really glossy remote and 2 built in sub at the back of the tv....
Can any current 530 owners confirm that their sets have either?
The remote is glossy yes, but there are no subs on the back...
I just double checked my TV (a530), It looks exactly the same as the one pictured. I've never tried the sound on the tv though, yet it does make this annoying welcome noise when you turn it on.

I was checking the Samsung site, and the gallery of the 530s shows those two speakers on the back... are those not subs? Then again, if they did have subs, you'd think Samsung would flaunt that in the specs!

This review is for the lcd model and not plasma. And nice review too Can't wait to get this baby home!

Anyone tested blu ray "Pixar" movies on this set? (Cars and Ratatouille)
Yes, the two speakers in the back are subs.
I'm getting NOWHERE with this, all the websites that list the tv state thats its
30000:1 BUT I talked with Samsung again today and they tell me it really is a 20000:1 set. I know the number is usually crapola BUT why would the company market with stickers on it saying one number when its really another number? I said to the lady "so samsung is false advertising that feature of the set then?" and she tried to say that the retail stores were putting the 30000:1 stickers on the sets themselves, she didn't know that when you take a tv out the box there are in fact stickers on the side of the screen, *SIGH* she claims she talked to tier 1 support and they verified the 20000:1 for this set. VERY ANNOYING! I"m almost tempted to say to hell with it and buy this set because its going to be cheap.

Have you tried them yet? Do they do anything for sound?

I just checked the carton that my A530 shipped in and I can tell you that it says 30000:1 RIGHT ON THE SIDE!! I think that we should push this as far as we can.

Damn yea, I mean if really honestly the stupid Samsung lady I was talking to is right about it only being 20,000:1 when EVERYTHING else(now with that info) points to telling you its 30,000:1 theres something wrong, OK maybe the picture looks great BUT you might have been ripped off!

If I were an owner of the TV I'd phone samsung and complain like crazy to get to the bottom of it.

I'm going to call them in the morning and escalate it until I get to someone with some authority. I have a feeling that these reps are referring to the same web page that we are so if the web page is wrong then so are they. I just cannot see that they'd screw up on the boxes and the stickers.

Me neither it'd be a HUGE snafu for them to do that. Along with the fact that every place selling the tv lists the same specs, they all can't be blindly false advertising the tv.

Its not just the 40a530 on the site with 20,000:1 listed its ALL the 530 series, the fact that places are charging pretty much the same price for the 530 as the 550, doesn't make any sense.

That's right.

To those who say enjoy your TV anyway...that's a 33% reduction in specs if it really is 20000:1 and not the advertised 30000:1. That's far too much to just blow off. I'll push for an exchange for the 550 if it turns out to be false advertising.

Is BB selling the 550? I know FS is not selling the 530... Maybe they have different models to avoid price matching?
I just want to verify that this has 3 hdmi ports right? 2 on the back 1 on the side? This is another thing the lady @ samsung denied on the set.
Clouding on the 550 has been spotted Peanut over in the 550 thread mentioned slight clouding, now its gotten worse on his set maybe its time to move on again *sigh* .

Probably just a one off...you're bound to get the odd one with problems.

Spoke to Customer Care re: the Dynamic Contrast Spec issue. She was quite helpful and is handing the issue up to level 2 care. Should hear something today.

How does SD cable look on this set?

I'm happy with it. As long as you sit a decent distance away from it there are no issue. SD looks better than my old CRT.

BB is only selling the 530 and FS is selling the 550 only. And it's probably due to price matching like you said.
Fudge it, the box says 30,000:1 I think I might just order it now, and naviely hope that I get a defect free set w/o the clouding reported in the 550 thread.

Yea I went and did it, in retrospect the last tv I had LG 37lb5d only had 15,000:1 so this will be better than that anyway.
