JBL Venue series vs Infinity build

Hi everyone,
I am currently upgrading the crap out of my home theater system, new surround sound set up, tv. I am currently debating between The

Infinity PS212 sub

Infinity Primus P362 tower

Infinity BETA C360 channel

vs

JBL Venue Series SUB12

JBL Venue Series Voice Center

JBL Venue Series Stadium 8-Inch 3-Way Speaker

with a Onkyo TX-SR875. Which setup do you think is better?

I believe that Primus series are not timbre matched with Beta series (you may confirm this directly with Infinity).

Your fronts and center needs to be timbre matched. Usually go with 3 speakers from the same series.

Also, you do not have to get a sub from the same series. At the price point of PS 212, there are lot of better options from HSU, SVS, eD, plus others. Check in the sub woofer forum.

JBL venue series may be about to be discontinued. I have seen heavy discounting from Amazon and J&H photo/video. That's not a bad thing, you can score some really decent prices on good equipment at model changeover time.

Yes.

The Venue series IS already discontinued. The series that is replacing them is the ES series. That is why you find them heavily discounted.
JBL has already removed the Venue from their list of consumer products on their web site, and added the ES, though I don't think the ES is available yet.

The Venues are a steal for the rock bottom prices you'll find them going for right now. I use Venues in my setup and can recommend them highly.

I just picked up the last pair of Stadiums (the floor models) at my local BB for practically nothing. I didn't need new speakers, but it was too good of a deal to pass up. I am enjoying the "big speaker sound", though of course my monitors are more detailed.

Curious to know what you think. I know you've had/heard many different speakers. Needless to say, the modest Venue line won't be near the top of your list, but what's your overall impression? I've intentionally not gone out and auditioned really nice speakers due to the fact that I'm a college student who can't afford them right now, and I don't want to hear anything that would make me be unhappy with my Venues until I can afford the upgrade. Still, I'm curious to know what you think.

So far, I am quite pleased with them (especially for under $300/pr!)
I have just bought some classic live rock CDs because they are exceptionally well suited to that (and to classic rock generally.) I listened to some Alan Parsons on them last night, and found it quite involving, an enjoyable listen.

I will give you a follow-up report after I have had them a few days and auditioned several more of my favorite CDs. (One thing I have not tried on them is extremely clean music, such as new age, which will be an interesting test.)

Sounds good. I've been extremely pleased with mine (I have the Stages though, not the Stadiums) which I also acquired about a year and a half ago for an insanely good price through a friend who works for JBL, but I've always been curious as to how they compare with other speakers. Sometimes the whole "ignorance is bliss" thing might be in effect, so I've never known if they're really decent speakers in general or just sound better than the crap I've heard before. Anyway, feel free to PM me with more impressions later - no need to fill a thread. I'd be happy to know as much as you feel like telling . Enjoy.
