Arcam opinions needed

Need some opinions.

I have the opportunity to get a used Arcam CD82 for $600.
As it is now, i'm using a Cambridge Audio DVD89 for my CD playback via a Denon 2807 to Focal Profile 918's.
I want to get a dedicated CD player but it must be 1) affordable and 2) enough of a step-up from the Cambridge.

Considering it's an older, discontinued model would this be a fair price and do you think I would notice enough perfomance gain??

I guess i'm having trouble paying that much for a CD player that I can't try out first....wanna make sure I'll be happy.

I can't answer this for you but you can go to audiogon and see what the cd82 and similar players are going for. I have my eye on a used arcam as well, either the cd92 or cd23.

I owned the CD72 for a while and liked it quite a bit. I spend a lot of time A/B'ing it with the CD92, and found the differences to be very subtle. I don't know about the CD82, but Arcam has typically made some pretty good players. $600 seems a little bit high, but I'm not sure what the original MSRP was. I think I sold my CD72 for $300.
