PS3 and receiver pairing

So...I'm stuck with a 1014 and no HD audio fun yet.

Looking at these...

Pioneer Elite 91
Onkyo 705

or wait 3 months for the Pioneer 1018

Anyone using the 91 or the 705 right now with their PS3? Comments concerns?

I'm exicited about the possibilities of the new Pioneer as well but I have to ask why a Yamaha receiver is not one of your options?

What Uxi said

Really, won't matter much because the ps3 does all the decoding and outputs everything as multichannel LPCM over the hdmi port. As long as your new avr can accept and process audio over hdmi you should be good to go

Sounds great on my 2807 btw

Read the first post on the following:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...-94TXH&page=93

I also had my installer guys over here installing some speakers etc. They mentioned the issues with the PS3 and audio......and I'd bet dollars to donuts that it's related to the info on the thread.

The conversion of DD to LPCM takes the DD processing out on the receiver.

Hmmm, interesting info there. Can't say I have tried bitstreaming (where available), have been quite happy with the ps3 doing the decode.

Something else to experiment with and drive the wife nuts

663 will not pass through FULL range HDMI....it only can handle limited.

Keep in mind, the post is on a board that addresses the Pioneer $1800 receiver. I'm sure many of the posters are a bit more critical then the average.

FYI: I still have a 10+ year old Elite 5.1 receiver......and really see no reason to upgrade it. Across all the top receiver threads I've read, they all point to HDMI issues as the top problem.....some better and some worse.

The 663 can pass all the data that is needed per the hdmi spec, yes it clips blacker than black but it is not the end of the world. In the real world you are not missing anything, you can still calibrate your display.

Spend more money if you like but the 661 and 663 are great PS3 AVRs.

Have Fun!

For someone who wants BTB.....clipping the BTB is the end of the world.

My picture is way better when FULL is being used compared to limited. I want to keep it that way!

What about the Onkyo 805?

I just recently upgraded to PS3 and was wondering if the pioneer 1014 remote can be programmed to control PS2 functions. I plan to get the Schmartstuff PS3IRX1 IR USB controller which accepts PS2 compatible IR commands and converts them to PS3 game controller key presses via the USB.

Anyone any ideas.
