3 HDMI inputs. All 1.3a, yes. Very comparable to the 805/875. The THX certification is lower from what I heard but it's leaps and bounds ahead of the 605 overall.
I did lots of research on all the Onkyo's and I decided the 705 was best for me. Besides, the 805 is about $200 more even on eBay and I heard it's a larger receiver (which is saying a lot because the 705 I've got is f'ing huge!).
Look up the user reviews on receivers you are looking at on Amazon and read cNet's review of the 605 / 705 / 805. Also read the "Official" 705 thread first post's FAQ in this very forum to learn more.
I never bought anything Onkyo before but imo they're the best bang for your buck by far and I'm one of probably millions who believes that. They bring features and specs of $1,000-1,500 receivers to a fraction of that cost. HDMI 1.3a inputs, THX certification, and ability to decode every top audio codec out there? And for less than $600 (I paid $575 for my 705 off an eBay seller new)? That's insane. Onkyo is amazing!
I also love the 540 7.1 setup I bought of theirs. Here's a link to that set and yes I bought it off Amazon from this seller:http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-SKS-HT54.../dp/B000GU78Z4
