I live in midtown Manhattan, only a few blocks from the Empire State Building. But I'm on the 3rd floor, and almost no broadcast signal gets to me directly. My favorite radio station, WQXR, often hisses, splutters and distorts as I walk around my apartment; and there seems no indication that the station plans to offer OTA digital any time soon.
So when I saw the $50 rebate offer, the Sony XDR-FH1D, with its rave reviews for analog reception, was impossible to resist.
Now I have a tuner that does HD radio as well as the Sangean I bought for $199, but also gives me WQXR clean for the first time ever! In the past I've owned a Carver, a Sony receiver, and the Sangean, among others, but none could deliver QXR. And as a bonus I also get WBGO, a terrific jazz station out of Newark, NJ. I could never get BGO before.
I loved my Sangean. But the little Sony is a technological breakthrough . Amazing value for the $$.
