Wow Just Got Console Update 4/18/2008

Thread Starter
Wow, was watching Rocky and in the middle of the movie at 2:45am 4/18/2008 I got disconnected from Xbox Live, i press the dashboard button and reconnect and it tells me there's a new Console Update.

Weird. Major Nelson announced there was an Xbox Live maintenance For Monday 4/21/2008 and said no new features or anything.

So what the heck is this?

My Dashboard Version number is now: 2.0.6690.0

EDIT: bleh. Major Nelson just announced it.

"A few minutes ago, the team released a system update for the Xbox 360 over Xbox LIVE. Sometime over the next few hours when you sign in to Xbox LIVE you’ll recieve a prompt to accept this mandatory update. This update contains code to ‘prepare for future growth of the service.’ There are no other changes or enhancements in this update…in other words no new features. The next obvious question you’ll have is about the Spring update. At this point we have nothing to announce, and the moment there is information to share I will do so."

Mods, delete this if possible.

i got the update today too. i just find it funny that they haven't fixed the gray bar that appears under the Media tab when you scroll from right to left but disappears when you scroll from left to right...

That's good enough for me.

Is anybody else having to update every single game they put in now? I tried it on a few different games (halo 3, GH3, COD4, Rockband, EDF 2017, and Soul Caliber 2) I had to update every single one of them before I could play them.

Same here. And Live is still down for maintenance.

4 seems to be the magical number. If you play a game, update it, then play 3 other games, the first game will require updating again. If you play a game, update it, then play 2 other games, come back to the first and it should still have it's updates, as well as the other 2 games. It looks like the 360 only keeps 3 games updates in cache at any one time.

It's probably a side effect of having a 64MB card as an option for the only place to save. Combined with the updates being a max of 4MB cumulative, that would be 12MB of your 64MB card used. Or there could be only a 12MB section of flash on the board that is used for updates. I'm just hypothesizing on this.

Your inbox has a message from Live informing you of scheduled downtime from 2am to 10am PST this morning.

"and my kids jump back and forth between alot of games,"

There is some weird relationship between accounts as well. The only game my girl is playing right now is Bully. So anytime I play Bully under my account, the patch is already there. This is regardless of how long it has been since she has played, or how many other games I have played in the mean time.
