Sony XL1B NAS Virtual Changer

post #1 of 113

Ok folks, here it is.
My First public version of Wunko Media Virtual Changer for Sony XL1B, I hope that you enjoy it.

This is version .01 and I'm sure (based on feedback) more will come.

Please download and run the setup.
I have only tested this with XP SP2 I don't know about it running on other OS'es.

Description :

This application simulates a network server.
The selected sony changers ( currently supporting XL1b1,XL1b2 or XL1B3) appear as folder underneath the NAS server and each disc and disc-contents appears as sub folder under each changers, this allows you to view the entire content of these changers (regardless of which disc is currently loaded).
Once you select a file that you want to play the virtual server will load the disk into the drive and begin
sending the data back seamlessly.

For XBMC this works great, it allow me to view and play files off these changers as if it was a network shared drive (when the file requires the changer to change the disk, it does so automatically), like a big Jukebox
in automatic mode. (configure up a playlist with all your music CD's in several or one changers and let it play and stream music continously all day long within XBMC).

In order to get XBMC to work you will have to update the network timeout for samba (advancedsettings.xml), but this is the only change necessary in order to enjoy these changers on XBMC.
to see how to make that adjustment you can read more about the advancedsettings.xml at the following link.
http://xbmc.org/wiki/?title=Advanced...ml#.3Csamba.3E

You will need to have .net Framework 2.0 in order to run this app.
You can obtain that from here.

Here's a screenshot of the application.

If you should any issues or comments, please post them here.

Thanks
ZorroB

so everytime you add/remove a disk you have to recreate the cache ?

Yes, that's correct... in the next version I'll try to have it where you can specify just to have the disc itself scanned.
But for now you have to recreate the cache everytime you insert/change a disc.

Sorry I haven't got vista.. so I didn't try it on that OS .. but for vista 32 it should work... I dunno about 64.

I know you probably already know this stuff, but for vista have you got the removable storage service disabled ?

The app needs to be able to read the deviceIO directly and removable storage always seems to lock it... please try this and let me know.

Thanks

Did you perhaps misunderstand? RSM must be DISabled. You might find it already disabled in Vista. For XP and XP/MCE, you have to go to the services menu and disable it (not just stop). Are you sure that RSM must be enabled for Media Center?

To get the drives visible but other applications (in XP), the Removable Storage needs to be disabled. I suspect the same holds true for vista... Not having the Vista OS intalled on any of my machines I can't confirm this.

Perhaps you can temporarily stop this service and see if the application does find the drives ?

Are you running in compatibility mode for xp ?
or "Run as Administrator " ?

also, can you tell me if imgburn finds the devices.

This looks pretty cool. Has anyone tried it with MCE/MyMovies? Or does the delay from mounting the disk cause things to timeout (and can you adjust the timeouts in MCE the way you can with XBMC)? Also, any chance of releasing the sources?
post #14 of 113
I was not able to make it work in visat so I installed XP, disabled RSA, installed NET 2.0, extract GU-055 to c:\\gui-055 and installed dvd DECRYPTER IN THE DEFAULT DIRECTORY.
(Try to make this work first before I try your program)
If I start the batch file I receive "dvd decrypter cannot open file %4 error"
If I ignore the error message it will copy the mounted DVD but only one .. no batch copy

Any help would be great.

Hi,
You mentioned Batch file ? do you mean the command line MediaChanger ?
normally imgburn (not dvd Decrypt) should show a log where it error'd and if the error was when it was attempting to read the changer or not.

if you have installed XP, make sure you have SP2... for there's some differences between driver versions when using SP2 and not.

Thanks, I certainly enjoy it with XBMC. I haven't tried it with MCE/mymovies or attempted to adjust the network timeout for any other clients, but it should work as I have used it with WMP and MPC (media player classic) to play music off different CD's using a playlist and it has worked (slower on MPC then WMP to load and swap disc), but does work.

Regarding the source code, I'm not finished with some of the features I would like and it may change the structure dramatically, once I have a stable version that works across other OS's and such I will up the source, MediaDogg already up'd the changer source code to which this is derived from so if you want to start seeing what's written I would suggest you start there first.

Thanks for checking it out, let me know if you have any issues with it.

I installed XP with all 54 updates and SP2. I did an upgrade from Net1.1 to net2.0 and disabled RSA.
After installing DVD decrypter in default directory and GUI-055 in c:\\GUI-055 I edit the Scanbatch.bat
to :
IF %1 == 0 (
IF %2 GEQ 1 (
IF %2 LEQ 199 (
"c:\\Program Files\\DVD Decrypter"\\DVDDecrypter.exe /MODE ISOREAD /SRC %4 /OVERWRITE YES /START /CLOSE /DEST c:\\DVDISOS\\[DISC_LABEL].iso
)
)
)

and copied it to the temp folder hoping that it will work. I have about 200 DVD's so I thought after I did the "full slot" scan and select the DVD's (in this case all) click on mount and close the full slot pop up window and hit "scan batch" but that does not work. It shows the progress bar with not "looking whats in the changer" than 2 quick dos windows pop up and that's it ....

I can manual do it by selecting in the gui the DVD slot, pus the start button and than start the scanbatch.bat manual with only :
"c:\\Program Files\\DVD Decrypter"\\DVDDecrypter.exe /MODE ISOREAD /SRC %4 /OVERWRITE YES /START /CLOSE /DEST c:\\DVDISOS\\[DISC_LABEL].iso
in it with :

IF %1 == 0 (
IF %2 GEQ 1 (
IF %2 LEQ 199 (
))) removed.
But this is kinda slow because I do it one by one :-(

********************************************

it never passes the the lable (%4) because it breaks at "IF %1 == 0 (" with error message ", was unexpected at this time
c:\\gui-055\ emp\\>IF == 0 <<br />
it looks like that %1 is not pass from the GUI

Hello,

First off, this is a great concept for controlling the Sony MediaChanger. I had no problem caching the drives, but I have been unable to start the server. When I click the button, nothing happens. I saw a comment about enabling network sharing, but since this is an Ethernet connected computer to a router, I cannot share anything.

Can you elaborate on how to proceed? How do the drives show up on the computer - under Network Places or My Computer?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I have an update to my previously posted problem. I ran the program "as administrator" in Vista Premium and was able to start the NAS Server. However, I am not sure where to look for the server. It is not showing up in Computers or Networks. I looked in Drive Management as well and do not see it there.

Can anyone explain what I'm missing?

Thanks,
JBW

Hi brent_wallis,

thanks for checking out the program.

When you start the server it will be started as if it was a nas server, and the name of the server will be what was entered in the edit box for Virtual NAS Server (default servername is WunkoMedia).

This "Virtual Nas server" is viewable under network explorer and is attached under the same domain as the host that started it.

Hope this helps...

Let me know if you have any other issues.

Thanks.

I love the idea behind this program.

Some info about my machine.

My machine is a Windows MCE 2005 fully patched up.

I have it joined to a 2003 Ent. Domain.

I installed this program, but it crashes everytime I try to open it.

Gives me the Sorry for the inconvience error. But thats it.

I have .NET 1.1 thru 3.5 loaded. So I think im covered there. The Changer is fully functional and used regularly...just sucks having to log in to change the DVD all the time.

The Remote Storage service is disabled. (Was by default)

So not sure where to go from here. Any tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated...and IM sure the kids and GF would greatly appreciate it aswell.

Take it easy.

-Cutty

Edit: It is an MCE machine...but I use SageTV if that matters. (The HD Extender rocks.)

Hi,
can you tell me if you have SP2 Installed... some components needs sp2 to be installed.

if that doesn't work, please set logging level to information or error and post me the log (logFile.txt, in the Logs directory) so that I can see it.

SP2 installed.

I am assuming turing on the log file I need to set the value to "on" in the exe.config file? (default is "off")

yes, you're correct edit the config (wunkomedialoader.exe.config) section = appsettings entry = loglevel and change the value to "INFO"

Once thats done try running the application and see if it provides you with a logfile.txt in the logs directory.

also, can you try running it as Adiministrator.

Sorry about that...
