i know that for a long time dish has always required customers to have a phone line for all dual tuner receivers. i just happened to come across this tonight in the terms and conditions on the dish site:
"Each of Customer’s receivers must be continuously connected to Customer’s same land-based phone line (or broadband home network, depending on receiver model). The $5.00 per month dual-tuner receiver additional outlet programming access fee(s) will be waived monthly for each such receiver DISH Network’s equipment confirms is continuously connected to Customer’s same land-based phone line (or broadband home network, depending on receiver model). DISH Network’s confirmation process shall be the sole method utilized to determine if Customer’s monthly additional outlet programming access fee(s) will be waived."

it looks like they've recently changed their terms and conditions, so their customers won't be required to plug in their home phone line, but can use a broadband internet connection instead!
i haven't called to confirm this myself, but i've been dying for this to change since for years dish has charged people without a home phone $5 / month if their dual tuner receiver isn't plugged in to a phone jack! has anyone else confirmed this change yet?
