Thanks. I will check them out.

I am now on the hunt for a wall mount for my tv. I have been looking at monoprice and found some simple mounts. I only need a mount and now swivel. Am i missing anything before i buy?

I also cant wait until saturday as i start cutting some wood!

I have purchased two of the monoprice mounts and find them to be very sturdy, reasonably priced, but no frills/no nonsense. That is not a bad thing mind you, it is just they don't look "up scale" like a chief mount does, but who really cares when you save about a hundred and fifty bucks.

I think they are excellent mounts for the money you'll be happy with them. I purchased the swing out articulating mount I think it was the aluminum one and it does not sag at all with a 32" plasma and very minimal sag with a 54" plasma. Very happy.

Check flea bay as well. I got a nice, very sturdy one off there for a great price. I had an unpleasant experience with a monoprice mount though that was a projector mount.

I ended up ordering this from monoprice for my LCD mount:
Ultra-Slim Adjustable Tilting Wall Mount Bracket for LCD LED Plasma (Max 165Lbs, 23~37inch) - BLACK


I had a great start yesterday and today I will get the rest cut, dry fitted and plan to start staining!

The progress...(not shown: I have also constructed the rails/stiles for the front of that base, which is in the garage glued and drying)

Doug,

I PMed you regarding a post you made last year about your Pioneer receiver. I got a message saying your mailbox was full. Could you remedy that by emptying some of your mailbox? I really need some help and you may be the one that's got some answers for me.

BTW, nice Home Theater set up. We just moved into a new house last August and I have a dedicated room (13.5' x 26') with a 7.1 system and a Pioneer 60" KURO Elite plasma. The room is most definitely big enough for a projector and possibly up to a 130" screen....but, I"m still in the "dreaming stage."

Ok...so I have been a little busy. After dry fitting nearly everything...I disassembled and then into the garage they all went. Between my wife and I, we stained and finished nearly all boards in 3 days.

I tried my hand at brushing on Polyurethane (usually I just use Wipe-on) for the top of the cabinet and the shelves...damn that is a slow and painful process. Slow because the drying times increase tremendously and painful because I hated having to sand between the 4 coats I put on...I nearly got it smooth as glass...so I am happy. Oh and tip...for brushing on Poly, get a good natural brush that is specifically designed for Oil Based Polyurethane...the do work so much better!

Ok, enough talk....

^^^I have had really good luck with the cheapo foam brushes as well. The secret with those is to get them thoroughly wet so that there are no bubbles and they do a great job for me.

I use those too. And then I don't feel as guilty if I don't' feel like cleaning them.

I will have to give those a try again. I purchased a 15.00 natural hair brush specifically for Poly. It worked great...but I couldnt get it cleaned very well. I swished it around in mineral spirits...then rinsed it out..seems I could not get all the poly off!

On another note. I hung my mount and plan to put the finishing trim up..mount the tv, hook up some electronics...maybe even put the door hinges on! I am so close to finishing...what a great feeling.

And.....we started searching for new carpet! Do I have a carpet inspector listening?

And......DONE!



Well, almost. I have some crown to buy (going to House of Fara in La Porte soon) and I have a ton of cleaning to do...if only you could see my garage (sawdust, stain, saw horses, tools, etc!! So needless to say, lots of cleaning.

Oh and, I still have to cut out the center panel on the 2 middle doors and put in my fabric. I am doing this for 2 reasons.
1) to allow for RF connectivity to Xbox, Wii, blu-ray
2) to allow my XBOX to vent its exhaust.

All looks pretty close to what I designed in sketchup!

What do you think!

Oh, and kudos to my wife who is best helper a spouse could ask for. She helped with the design, staining, and always being that second set of eyes on the project.

Next up...Carpet.

RT, actually, the time lapse is pretty simple and I used Windows Live Movie Maker to put it together. The trick is getting your camera setup to take the pictures at the specified time interval. In my case, I set it up to take a shot every 60 seconds. And to make things easier, I purchased a power adapter so I didnt have to rely on the battery.
One thing that made it possible for my camera (Canon G12) is that you can override the camera software with something called CHDK. If you have a Canon camera, do a search on CHDK for all kinds of cool features you can take advantage of...for example, you can create scripts yourself or you can find and download many of those that have already been created by others...such as Motion Detector (as soon as your camera detects motion..SNAP), or intervelometer (timelapse), etc...
This video was made with 1400 images.
I wish I had set it up when I was cutting and staining...but I didnt want to have to setup the camera in all those locations.

Ok, not the most exciting thing, but this has been long over due...my carpet is in need of replacement. I really would like to go with a darker color but my basement is multi purpose and the theater is not dedicated...so there are some compromises to make...my wife is leaning towards the lighter side, but I keep steering her towoards the darker side...looks like we are finding some colors in between...

Here are some of our choice...I wont say which we are looking at

I am curious of what you all thing...feel free to suggest other carpets/colors as well.

EDIT: Removed first picture which was redundant and not really a good color

Ok, with my extensive experience as a carpet counselor here are my picks.

In the first shot with six samples showing I like the top middle and bottom right in the shot with the four samples showing I like the top two samples. My over all favorites being the top middle sample of the six and the top right of the sample with four.

Clear as mud? Good. ;-)
