First HT build begins

Have begun with my first dedicated HT build.
Room: 23' X 11'6" X 7'6"
Soffit : 15" at 6 8" with blue rope lighting

HT is on first floor of Raised Ranch style home with pored concrete floor 2 windows on left side and a 6' patio door ( to be removed ) on the screen wall.
Undecided about removing the windows. Room was a Bar/Pool room in the past and have been working on removing the bar at the back of the room to build an L shaped kitchen with upper and lower cabinets and 24" Magic Chef fridge purchased from HD. The door entering the HT is located on rear right wall even with the L shaped kitchen


Plan is for 2 rows of seating at 17' and 10'6" with a 10" riser. 120" 2.35:1 scope screen is planned Carada fixed on the front wall with speakers on the sides.

I plan to build a 48" H wall at the 17' mark at the rear of the riser and put a 12" bar on the back for 2 or 3 bar stools behind the 2nd row.

I am in the process of building the Kitchen area first as we need this for the summer season not to mention I am having shoulder surgery on 5/13 and will be down for a while.

My Current Media with 2000 plus DVD collection and Mits 55 HDTV which will be replaced with a 42" Samsumg 1080p 120HZ LCD in the near future

Now that I can upload pics here is some of my progress up to this point over the last 3 month I will post more on regular basis.
Next work is to finish the Screen wall with a second layer of Rock and 1" linacoustic.

Drop ceiling painted with Valspar Night View. Could not sheet rock due to location of plumbing from 2nd floor master bath

Now working on second layer of sheetrock for screen wall. Undecided as to whether I should put 114" Carada screen on wall and bulid a 10" box around it or just build a false screen wall 10" from back to have a flat look wall to wall

Could not resist this remote at $229. so I pulled the string. Still need to get the RF extender.

I just finished with a second layer of sheet rock on the screen wall and will be picking up a 50' roll of 1" Linacoustic on Monday.
Floor to soffit is 6'10"
Floor to ceiling is 7"5"
109" between the Soffits
138" Wall to Wall
The distance from the present Screen Wall to the back of the riser is 17'3"




I am thinking of putting a false screen wall 10" out from the present one so my speakers can be flush with the screen. Looking to use a 114" Carada BW screen but also thinking SMX but have budget concerns

Carada Frame for 114" (55.9"x99") is 60"x103.5



Looking for some ideas as I am at a stand still and can't make up my mind on what would both look and preform the best in my situation.

Was hoping to get some imput from the forum but I guess my build is just not that interesting as there have been no replies/suggestions since I started to post pics.
Decided to build the Wall out 10" from the existing wall for a seamless look and now need to build the speaker shelves.



Will cover with Black GOM and add 114" Carada Screen Since I have low ceilings the AxiomVP150 will go under the screen angled up



This is where my AxiomEP350 v3 sub will go



Use the alternate sub area for housing the XBox360,PS3 and Wii unless I decide to go with a second sub

At the beginning of ny post is the floor plan I appreciate the comments

Just hope the curves don't cause to much of a problem for the carpet guys but I guess we'll see soon enough
That may be why I got such a good price?

Just finished adding my new Sony S350 BluRay player and 16" ViewSonic monitor to my equiptment rack. Haven't done much work on HT as waiting for my outside work load to end with the end of Fall season. Still have not even tested my Receiver and Speakers yet.

Hope to see the prices fall on 1080P projectors now after the Cedia show is over.

Now that the summers over I guess I can start working on the HT again

Got a New Samnsung LN46A550 to replace the big old 55" Mits which gives us a lot more room in the Family Room

Just picked up a 4X2 Matrix Switcher fron CEPro. Don't know how it will work but at $100have to give it a test run. Will post results as soon as I hook it up. Just about to get back to work after a few months down with shoulder surgery.

Nothing special on the tiles just standard at HD. Just used a heavy nap roller for the painting and it worked out fine. Was going to spray them but would have needed to thin the paint.

Finally have a projector on order Have pre-ordered the new Panasonic AE-4000
from Visual Apex Hope to have it early November.
Now have to decide on Screen size and scope. Thinking I will go 2.35.1 Will decide on size after I receive it and have a chance to test it out at various sizes.

I have been using it in my family room controlling a Samsung TV,Sony B-350,SA8300 and 4x2 matrix switcher with very good results after tweeking it. Can't beat if for the price.

Carpet is being installed tomorrow and I just got word from Roman that my 6 Berkline 45033's had just shipped out of TN also so should have them this week. Also ordered 10yds of Dazian Janus Black for the screen wall and lower 1/3 of my walls. Should have some new progress pics tomorrow. Still deciding on the upper 2/3's wall color but am leaning towards burgandy like the carpet or blue. Chairs will help me decide this week. Really winding down now as the 2 year mark approaches.

Finally have some time to post a few updates. Carpet complete but not happy with the quality of the Black carpet on the stage. I guess that is what happens when you leave it in the hands of the carpet guy to pick out the best value and quality in his opinion.

Also finally got my six Berkline 45033 power recliners with lighted cupholder and base rails. Everythin was great untill I oppened the last chair to find the frame had been snapped in half on it and the touch portion of the cup holder did not work. Also after setting up had one chair where the transformer on the power recline did not work. After looking all the chairs over more carefully found another chair where one of the support blocks was cut about 3/4" short and was not attached in the corner. Received them on 2/29 and still working with Roman to get them fixed. First batch of parts was incorrect so getting a little upset now. They are real comfortable but having looked the over so closelly found their workmanship lacking.
