When you get the new one, install the stand as described in the manual.....Set the TV down on the stand, and then attach the screws.

yes i had the stand on the ground and lowered the tv down into the stand, then put the screws in... i give the tv a slight push and it wobbles all over the place like a bobble head. Why in the world would they not make the stand sturdy. Other then that i love the TV.

minus the fact you can't do full pixel in 720p (i hate overscan)

Definate Motion Blur in fast moving games and scrolling text....... But all LCD have motion blur :-/

problem fixed, the 4 screws on the bottom of the stand where loose for some reason causing the tv to jiggle around

RE: TV Guide Problem Update
I finally got to an "escalation leve 2" technician at Sony. They put in a problem report with Macrovision and/or Brighthouse Cable. THe next day the TV Guide worked. Problem resolved for the time being EXCEPT, it only shows the analog channels.

I am wondering if it will work after the digital changeover?

Sounds great, if you get your local HD channels in the clear you can edit the TV guide to tune to the local HD channels and get the full program info. Will be interesting to see If the guide works next month.

Cool, glad you got it straightened out.

I read in this or some other W,V,S thread that someone had installed the stand with the TV laying flat. He went back and set it up by setting the TV down on the stand, like you did......and it sat straight after that. I've never checked the screws on the bottom, thanks for the heads up.

The clicking is really annoying since it's in my office where I work. How do you turn the TV guide off? I just turned it on to see what it is, I have a cable box.

Considering I can't find any other person with this problem I might have a defective set. I will be buying a new, more expensive HDMI cable this weekend to test. I know that shouldn't make a difference but I've run out of ideas. I'll keep this post updated.

Sony repair tech came today and switched out the "board". I will see what happens with my HDMI connections, hopefully no more drop signals. The new board has no software info available so I'm assuming it has stock firmware. I'm only wondering if the board I got is the most recent if so is it any different from my old board's stock firmware? My original was manufactured August 2008.

Bring up your TV guide then set up, UN-checkmark both antenna and cable, put all zero's in your zip code then continue with the setup. The next time you turn on your TV you might get do you want to set up the TV guide and there should be a box to checkmark saying NO do not show this screen again or something like that as I forget.

If someone would be so kind as to confirm the power supply on the 42V4100. Is it 120vac or 100 - 240vac. I am hoping that it is a universal power supply but would like confirmation.

thank you in anticipation.

The Sunday newspaper Best Buy advertisement, today, said the following:
"42" 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV (KDL42V4100)"

Do you see anything wrong here?

They almost had me.

me too, I was like woooohooooo......

Is this still a great deal w/out 120hz???
120 HZ is not worth the extra, my opinion!

If the price difference is within 50 bucks I might consider it, but not because I can feel the difference through my eyes, just because ... you know it!

Regardless of additonal cost, does 120Hz provide a significant difference?

Today I got my 52v4100, and hooked it to my PC using dvi->hdmi cable. The same setup worked for my Sceptre 46 1080P without any problem, it is called 1080@60hz hdcp mode.

However, when the computer boots into windows, the SONY TV gives an error message saying "unsupported signal xxxx". Does anybody know the reason?

Thanks in advance!
lyrebird.

Have you tried turning the TV OFF then back ON, or switching inputs back and forth?

It could be your video driver trying to set an unsupported resolution or refresh rate. If you only have one DVI port and it was originally set for a video mode supported by your computer monitor but not supported by the TV, the driver could still be setting that mode. Especially if you forced the monitor type to a specific brand instead of "Generic PnP Monitor."

Check the Advanced Settings in your Display Settings, and make sure it is set to a supported resolution and refresh rate like 1920x1080 @ 60Hz.
hi chopin,

i think that could be the reason. however, right now the TV is the only monitor of this computer, so when TV is showing nothing but unsupported signal, I don't know how to change the settings. I tried the safe mode, but the display driver does not work any more.

do I need another monitor to change this setting?

hi guys, theres no thread for my question, and ive googled and still no results. I figured this would be the most appropriate thread for my question. I have 2 kdls40 sonys. They are both wall mounted one in my daughters room one in my sons. In my sons room and this only when his DVRh22 input is selected, there is a buzzing noise. When he changes to any other input, mostly his ps3 input, theres no buzzing/hissing. My daughters is hooked up to a hd20 and theres nothing. I have 2 other tvs in the house an xbr6 hooked to a dvrh22 and a sony 70xbr2 hooked to a dvrh23. Ive never experienced this on any other tv in the house. All hookups are hdmi, any suggestions?

Yeah. Having a monitor to set it up correctly would be the only way aside from installing a different video card or attempting to uninstall the video driver from within safe-mode. Normally if the driver is set for Plug-n-Play monitor, the TV will inform the driver of the available modes, but there is a way to turn that off and force unsupported modes.

It's even easier if the video card has dual-DVI ports. Boot up with a monitor, then plugin the TV and set it up as the second monitor.

the obvious easy test is to switch out the dvr with one of your others....

I just got the 40" version of this TV at Sams. I got the display unit for $800

I'm noticing very inconsistent backlighting with the corners being quite a bit brighter than the middle. Is this normal for Sony TV's? If not, should I contact Sony or just take the unit back? They don't have any left and I'd probably go for the new 42" 120hz Vizio if I don't keep this one.

With cinemotion, and game mode. Is it better to have them on or off?

I own a KDL-42V4100. There are tons of possible solutions to "flashlighting" just search this forum for sony backlight clouding. Your 40V4100 is a Samsung LCD screen paired with a Sony processor. Sony has joint venuture with Samsung.

If you get a Vizio you may be downgrading on reliability but if you have a uniform screen that sounds like a good trade off. Also consider Panasonic, I like the PQ of their sets. Just search the internets for "clouding flashlight " and avoid the MODELS you discover. Sony (along with lower end Samsung) have a bad track record with clouding and flashlights so if you can't stand it (like me) look at another brand.

Hi all.

I'm finally coming to my first LCD purchase.
I live in an area where viewing these sets in person Is a major
field trip. The best I can see here is an S4100.
If you guys would help me with a few issues, it'd be great.

The TV will be used mostly for :
1.Gaming on PS3
2.Blu-Ray Movies
3.PC Monitor
( sports and DirectTV don't matter )

46W4100 - Base Price (BP)

52V4100 - BP +$100
52W4100 - BP +$400

I'd love to stick with 52" if minimal difference between V and W.
The extra $400 for the W is something I'd like to avoid if I can.

I'm trying to determine the major difference between V4100 and W4100.
BLACK LEVEL and SMEARING even in GAME MODE are my biggest concerns.

I see that the black levels on the W4100 are generally excellent,
but how much better than on the V4100? The TV will see HEAVY gaming
usage so GAME MODE will be where most Time is spent.
GAME MODE = no MotionFlow. So, how do these two hold up in gaming?

To be honest, I'm generally not thrilled about MotionFlow but deep blacks
light my fire. And smear-free gaming is a must.

I've been a lurker for a very, very long time but THE Day Approaches.
thanks guys.

Hey S1LO

I have seen the W and V side by side and i could not distinguish the difference between the black levels. Secondly I am not a fan of the 120hz mode. It just makes the pq look a bit fake or un natural. I believe the W is a 10bit panel not 8. I settled on the 52V4100 and love my tv. I have not had any of the issues that have been reported on this forum. Keeping my fingers crossed. This is my second Sony set. I also own the 40inch XBR1. I say take the plunge and get the V series

just bought the 52v4100 from dell for a good price hasnt been shipped yet and now they have the sharp LC52D85U for basically the same price should i keep the sony or go for the sharp
post #1199 of 1418
I wouldn't trade my Sony for my friend's Sharp that I've watched, but that's me. I like the Sony's user adjustments like separate R G and B Bias and Gain controls for fine tuning the gray scale, and other features. I like the way it has custom picture adjustment memory for each input. I like the signal diagnostics screen on the Sony. My other LCD set a Samsung lacks features of the Sony, so I learned to look for those things. Before I bought the Sony I downloaded the User manuals for all the TVs I was considering, so I could study them and make sure I got those features I wanted. Maybe the Sharp you're looking at does these things too.

I have a sony 40s2000 now and love it the only was the sharp has the 120
