If you think 120Hz is important, go for the Sharp or get a Sony 52W4100. Personally I looked at the V W and Z sets at the store, and could not see what all the 120Hz hoopla is about. The V to me has no more motion smear than the 120Hz sets as best as I could tell, certainly not several hundred $$ difference in price justified when I bought in May '08. The pic quality seems to have much more to do with the source material than refresh rate.

Prices are a lot different now though, hundreds less and differences btwn V4100 and W4100 probably isn't as much.

Same here! don't see any difference after comparing v and w in three different stores.

I agree it's a great TV! I have had none of the video issues talked about in this thread (knock on wood) but occassionaly I do get an audio dropout on broadcast cable HD but never on Blu Ray. No biggie.

I have the 52V and I compared side by side with the 52W. My eyes can't tell the difference at the store with their signal. At home playing Blu-ray on the PS3 I don't see any motion blur with my set, and without another 52W next to it I have nothing to compare it with. My opinion, just enjoy your TV, at home any set will look good whether it's 60Hz or 120Hz. Can't go wrong with a Sony Bravia.

i got the v4100 52 inch in november... they wanted 4-500 more for the w serie then i could had the sharp (with 120 on it) for 200 more then the sony v4100 i should had bought the sharp ... but its all depend of how close you are watching tv ... and specialy what type of signal you get..here in canada only a handfull of chanel are hd ( not like the state at 150 + )therefore watching tv in sd signal is realy crap ... specialy football or hockey or even UFC fight i can see lot of blurr wich with the 120 i would not see ( friend has the sharp) when swich to hd chanel both tv are almost the same.. i should had bough a plasma instead but i wanted bigger ... and let face it if lcd companie come out with 120 and some sony has 240 h. then it must be a reason ..... they cannot compete with plasma picture quality.. also since november my sony has not come down in price much ( maybe 100 ) the sharp drop their price about 600 $ .. but i should had get the pz80 plasma way better picture ...
my 2 cent

The V4100 is a great TV. I owned one for several months then upgraded (got a great deal, couldnt resist) to an XBR6. Motionflow isn't all that special since Cinemotion set to Auto1 on the V4100 pretty much gives you the same result. The most noticeable difference between the two is the cabinet design lol.

So all you V4100 owners who might be having second thoughts, unless you can get a great deal on one of the higher models (or like the styling better), I'd just stick with the V4100.

Having cinemotion on will smooth out framerate on 30fps games and make it look like its running at a higher framerate. Mirror's edge and Dead space were much smoother with it set to Auto1. Other games don't respond so well, like Uncharted. Certain portions of the game were smoothed out and looked like it was running at 60fps, but it wasnt consistent and I turned off cinemotion because the artifacting and framerate jumps were too much for me.

I picked up the 46" V4100 2 weeks ago as of today. And i love the HELL out of this tv

I've been trying to decide between the V4100 and the A550. I'll be watching OTA and DirecTV HD, along with videos and a couple games from my computer.

I went to bestbuy today. They had a V4100, S4100, and A550 right next to each other. I must have stood there for an hour staring at the screens (had 5 people ask me if they could help me) but I can't really tell the difference, especially between the S and V.

The Sony 46" seems to have a better black level than the Samsung 46", but then I compared the same 40" models and the samsung looked better.
I also tried to look for color gradient smoothness but sometimes one would look better than the other. Ofcourse I have no idea how they have the TV's setup and what the content they are showing is. So that was not of much help.

I guess if they look the same, the V4100 is the better choice since it has 24p support (eventhough I don't think I have anything that outputs 24p)

I think a lot of people use the W series settings thread as a good starting point.

i've noticed on certain BD movies. When light hits Actors faces just right there's a weird Yellowish/Orange tint in the shadowed areas like under the chin or behind the ear or the sides of their noses. Its very weird and can't figure out how to get rid of it.

Flesh tones look good to me, what are your settings tvine2000???

Just thought I would chime in. People have mentioned the "autodim" issue that never seemed to completely go away regardless of settings. Well, as I use my tv for probably 60% computer use, I can really notice this when scrolling web pages. It didn't seem like a change in contrast, but rather a change in the backlight. I fixed the issue by turning my backlight to lowest (min) and now no longer have any autodim.
This may not help others, as you may find backlight at the lowest to be too dark but I'm in a dark room with a g15 lit up keyboard so it works for me.

Edit : sorry for this post, as I was incorrect, auto dimming is still present, just now it auto dims at a lower darkness setting than before. Especially noticeable when (hooked up to pc) switching to a full screen command prompt... 4 seconds later, screen darkens. Played with every setting possible, and still noticeable.

I just had a weird thing happen where i Changed all my settings to other users settings on this forum, and for a few days everything was fine. One day i fired the tv up and all my settings were back to default. so i said wth and re-set them up. Well the very next day same thing. Its not saving my Picture settings at all anymore. what gives?

I have had my 52" set since friday and can not be more satisfied with the picture so far.No flashlights in corners and very little clouding.Feb 2009 build date. One thing i notice the most is no smearing of the picture that was driving me crazy on the 52xbr4 that this set replaced.I say the picture is on par detail and color wise with the xbr4, even though its a 8 bit panel to the xbrs 10 bit.Very happy with the price i paid.

I got a great deal on a 52" from Amazon a few weeks ago. At first I had some concerns but it is definitely getting better - the flashlights were really bad the first few days. I thought about returning and going for the Pio 5020 but can't see it being $700 better. Overall, it needs some more tweaking (Cinemotion=off!) but I think it's a keeper.

Anyone have any alternate links for the latest firmware download? I can't get the one from Sony to work.
I have had this tv for a few weeks, no problems. I just got an HD box and it seems the audio is fast... not matching the words. I dont know if I would say out of sync. Any ideas?

Just bought the 52V4100 yesterday and I gotta say I'm pumped! This set is awesome for the price!

Our family's Rear Projection HDTV started to develop a yellow spot in the middle of the screen which you could only notice in scenes with a lot of whites, such as a hockey game. I called the store where we purchased from because we had an extended warranty and they sent someone out to look at it..The service repairman came to our house and looked at the TV and he said he had to send in his report to the Futureshop and they would get back to us.
Then the Futureshop called us and told us that the TV Repair guy deemed the TV too expensive to fix and said they would exchange it for a new one. When we arrived at the store and finally got to talk to a sales person they tried to push an LG 42LG30 on my wife an I. This kind of tick us off because we paid almost $2000 for our TV 2 years ago and we just replaced the bulb in our TV( which cost us about $300) but our choices were limited because the TV was a Rear Projection and 720p resolution. I stubbornly said I bought a Sony so I wanted a Sony because I never heard want LG TVs were like an always owned a Sony. The Sales person said he would talk to someone and see what he could do and when he came back he offered us a Sony KDL-42V4100 which I was more pleased with because we were going from 720p to 1080p and it was a Sony. Since having this TV for a couple of weeks I'm very happy with the picture thanks to the picture setting I found on this website and Blu-ray movies are amazing after watching Black Hawk Down and the Dark Knight. I haven't noticed any lag as a result of it only being a 60hz refresh rate and I watch a lot of sports and play a lot of video games.
I was just wondering if I had the latest software version, mine is HM-F-QN-B-CO?
How do I know that my software version HM-F-QN-B-CO is the recent one?

Thanks

*EDIT* I called sony and they will send me a USB key with the new firmware on it.

I've got the same problem with my 46W4100, im really bummed, but it was so much time and effort to get it in the first place I don't know if it's worth having them deliver another set? I was told that loosening the screws in the back can help. I tried it and it may have improved... but not enough to impress me.

That being said, the bleed isn't as bad as the A550 I replaced with the W4100.
Best of luck.
How high are you running the backlight level, and are you using the Advanced contrast enhancer? With my 40V4100 I run my backlight at 2 or 3 depending on the source, and the Advanced CE on Low. Those definitely effect how much light bleed I see on dark scenes, which is basically none with those settings. I doubt there is an LCD panel out there that doesn't have some of this.

Is the time off by an hour on anyone else's TV? Ever since the time change mine's been an hour behind. When I try to set it manually the TV says something about it's been set automatically by the TV Guide. When I look at the TV Guide, it says it's searching for the time.
Just bought a 46v4100 from Sears for $1079 after price match with Fry's and 10% of the difference discount. Free delivery and they will hull away my old 190 pound Sony!
Will report back on the first impressions when delivered in a week.

Call Sony support and they will report it to your cable company if you are using cable or to your local PBS station.

Unrelated, to anyone that owns a V or W series, Sony released a new software rev for Bravias on 3/16/09....Made a noticable difference with lag problems when switching channel and no more white speckles!!

Just in case anyone else runs into this I figured out a way to fix the time. I went through the initial setup again and it let me set the time manually, though I had to go through it twice--the first time through it picked up the wrong time again. But after the second run through the time was settable.
