Comments already about the following :

only works with about 75% of DVDs (uses the rename VOB to MPG idea)
does not work with WHS (symbolic links don't play nice with Drive Extender)

Nice, I just posted this in the "play all videos" thread, then searched under the actual website and found your thread.

Haven't tried this yet, but plan on checking it out later tonight/tomorrow...

Have you tried it yet?

I tried it with one DVD; "310 to Yuma" and it worked. I was able to see the DVD library in the ribbon, saw the 3 backed up DVD's in the library folder and was able to play the DVD. The only problem is the movie is stored on the PC which is connected to my network wirelessly (my Xbox 360 is wired) and I couldn't get suitably smooth playback but that has nothing really to do with this workaround; I just wasn't able to prove that everything works perfectly.

On another note; I wasn't able to execute the batch file scripts that were provided in the guide and had to creat the hard links and playlist by hand. If someone could develop a small app which would accomplish these actions with a GUI that would be excellent.

I still haven't found time to check this out yet, but I've been following this thread at thegreenbutton.com

The people there might have improved upon the original guide at htpcug. Good luck.

I have all my DVDs stored on Windows Home Server, so I need some motivation to spend a couple hours or so seeing if this works....

If you have the DVDs on WHS in a VIDEO_TS folder with VOBs, you still can use the DVD Library on the Extender, but you have to put the symbolic links on another PC on your network.
Do not use the script, you will have to make the links manually.

If the movies are in another format i.e. DVR-MS, mpeg, wmv then no symbolic link is needed.
