MaxMedia MMDTVB02 Converter Box - Page 2

I don't want you guys to think I forgot about you.

I have just sent a second request for a bulk dealer quote and confirmation the ''Optional'' features will be in the US shipped models.

I am not going to touch the MaxMedia topic, Pointless to do so.

But I will ask AFTER they have shipped me a unit (out of my own pocket / no coupon applied) if they were the original manufacturer, and why they blew-off those guys. I'm sure we all can figure out why, I'm sure they wanted the dough up front rather than extend a line of shippers credit to those jokers...

I will also post here that I started a new thread and reference it with a link if I do confirm not to be ''Said'' unit

Thanks, Ken.

After nearly a month of "silence" from CMTV, I decided to check on my "02" order status today. Surprisingly, their customer support is still alive...

"Public information will be posted on either the NTIA DTV2009.gov site, Maxmedia site, or Convert My TV site in the coming weeks. At this point, all I can say is that "things are going in a positive direction" ... keep in touch."

I need to say first, that the delay with Taiwan was because Excite.com domain addresses are for the most part blocked/bounced.

Having figured that out I have opened (finally) a line of communication from a Yahoo addy...

Below is the beginnings of a quote negotiation and attached is the PDF manual for your feedback.

It is the Thomson tuner, and the Texas Instrument chipset btw.

Correction1:
Forum attachments prevent me from attaching the PDF manual
due to half-meg size limit. Manual is 1.1-Mb

I will try compressing/splitting with Win-RAR into two files...

Correction2:
.RAR is not an accepted extension , resorting to .ZIP...

Correction3:
No dice..Staying with Win-RAR, just remove the .ZIP fake extensions

Just remove the .ZIP from each and unpack to a single PDF file again.

If you achival client wont unpack them,
Win-RAR can be used (for free) here:

Don't get me wrong, I am 99% sure this was to be one of those MaxMedia model numbers. But I am hesitant to start a new thread for it until I actually have one in hand to review...

I hope this meets with everyones approval?

Oh, and give Solomon a break. It is obvious his native language is not english, but I am happy to just have an open line of communication with a Taiwan manufacture at all at this point. He's doing the best he can at Twinglish (Taiwanese>English).

take a peek at the attached PDF above and tell me what you think if you have a moment.

It can freeze-frame lol.

channel scan overwrites (instead of adds), but manual add can be seen.

now next EPG only...

At least they were nice enough to warn of the 4-Hr auto-off on first page!

Remote uses a code available in newer universal remotes.

Has themes, transparancies, and a service menu.

RS-232 port for software upgrades.

Some funny typo's 180i/480p, etc.
amd get a hoot out of the programs on the fake EPG lol.
Clearly an American had something to do with that...
Anyone know where KTVT-DT D-11.1 is?

I will be thinking/collecting questions until Monday,
then I will write and ask them all:

Confirm manual add for channels (I see '''manual' on menu pic)
Confirm unwanted channels can be skipped/removed
Confirm negative chassis ground on 5V jack
Confirm available output formats, 480P IS LISTED (Deemed ''Display'' format), but specs say 480i
Confirm Pass-Through (Menu Type? / Power-off type?)
Confirm Who pas the royalties (TI, MPEG, Dolby)
Contirm adjustment for upcomming Chinese labor laws increase

(Note: CECB does not appear anywhere in the manual, could go either way,
but S-Video limits would be useless after 480i and most likely progressive
may not display correctly through any of these jacks ...)
(If you do this for a living, please advise?)

Any questions to add ???

You think all this MaxMedia stuff if funny check this out. oh my god i just wrote summit and this is what they said

Me:has the Channel Master CM-7000 come in stock yet
Summit Source: Channel Master called us to let us their boat from the factory was delayed in Bulgaria, and that we'll be receiving the boxes from them the week of May 19th. We'll ship them out to our customers the day they hit our doorstep.

who the hell makes electronics in Bulgaria. Why do i feel all the manufactures boxes that are to be released in June are on this ship. I feel we have a good chance of seeing a MaxMedia box in June as promised. The goverment is on their butts now and the only saving grace is to bring a box to market for them.

I've tried several times with IzArc, but I can't get part 2 to extract, even after downloading it a second time.

Part 1 was successful though, so I've been able to glance through at least part of the user manual. The Magnavox converter also has freeze-frame capability, though I've yet to see anyone bring it up in a forum or review. I found out through a friend who redeemed her coupon at Wal-Mart for the Magnavox.

Overall, I'm not very impressed with what I've seen in part 1 of the manual...it's not enough to make me want to hang onto my last coupon and order the MaxMedia, once it makes it to market. The menus look badly outdated, though I suppose the actual production box might be better. These could simply be poorly done illustrations.

The remote looks somewhat plain, though not the worst I've seen...and I hate the idea of having to deal with yet another AC adapter. The S-Video addition, though, is a welcome feature, but over here it's not essential. Because of connector limitations in the den, the Zenith converter that I purchased runs first through my JVC S-VHS VCR...and that deck does a marvelous job cleaning up a composite video signal. Once a composite video signal exits via the S-video out jack on the JVC, jagged edges and dot crawl are completely gone.

BTW, the basic channel scan with the Zenith overwrites completely as well, but there is also an "add channel" scan that simply searches and adds anything new to the list that was already stored in memory.

This is a single PDF file split into two pieces by Win-RAR to accomodate this forums size limit restriction.

wh5916,
Did you take off the .ZIP fake extensions
so it knew it was a multi-part .RAR first ?
(This forum dosn't allow .RAR's either...)

I'll post a self-extracting set this time for those without Win-RAR

REMOVE THE ''DOT'' AND THE ''ZIP'' BEFORE USE...
(FileName.exe.ZIP = FileName.exe)
( FileName.rar.ZIP = FileName.rar)
This forum only seems to accept .ZIP filename extensions...

I didn't. That was totally my fault for not reading properly. I'll try the new downloads to see how they go.

Been a life-long Win-RAR user, I swear by it for huge batch jobs to a set of DVD's livetime.

But that is a nice widget you use there, and FREE!

Glad it worked out. I didn't post self-extractables first time because as a rule I don't think It's wise to post executables that can be infected easily.

For those without something to work with archives, here is the free tool he uses.
http://www.izarc.org/

Please tell me what you think of the unit, and any questions I should ask next week. I'm still at 99% not 100% certain it is one of the MaxMedia models.

I need to get mine on the boat to here before I ask a touchy question like that, lol...

If they say no, I'll discontinue posting here and start a thread with a seperate name in respect of the PPO's (People with Pending Orders).

But I think you'll agree it is one, expecialy if you scroll through the old thread and look at the remote pic sent to someone directly by email. Connector layout is identical as is the faceplate button layout. case is different.

But a porche cover kit on a VW chassis is stil a Bug... (Ouch, did I mean that???)

Sounds like they are re-appling to NTIA. I guess that is good, but I still feel June date will be missed. I just want my box I payed for. It should not be like this.

What a fantastic find !

And lightens AVS's Server load!

And gets around the absurdly low size limit for documents and archives...

Nice

Hey,

I am glad I can help you help us. LOL

Now lets sing CUMBYA lol

Ok Now for my questions

1) is this ASTC box for sale yet?

2) Is this a copy of the MM box or did MM copy them?

3) When will this box be available.

This looks like the same box as MM.

Looks good

Just wondering
1 - Fully manufactured and available now.

2 - Don't know, won't ask (Until I have the first one in hand!)

3 - They will only go through dealers, I have to enter into a dealers
agreement to get the first box for technical review as example.

I'll just answer the next expected question...

Will I sell them, and can coupons be applied.

Sure, If the price with FOB is acceptable to all.
No, I am not an NTIA authorized dealer!

Don't get me wrong. I want the (Proposed) MaxMedia box.

I have two coupons good until 06-13-08.
One coupon will /may go to them if a product appears and they stop being so dodgy/aren't already indited for fraud...

But I am getting this first box out of pocket if reasonably priced just to have it. Screw the friggin coupons for the moment.

Then of course getting one of those smart antennas Hol_Ends reviewed/pulled apart for pics.

I will share my full review, supply a way-updated PDF for it, and provide technical details to whomever asks. But this is my experiment. And I just hope others benifit from it in some way.

Chances are I'll yield to a professional reseller like Mosquito that is already registered with the NTIA and drop-ship pallets to him if we even get that far. That would be way fairer to everyone on the FOB thingy.

But until I get one, and pass one to him for review too. That won't happen.

And even then, you'd have to want it without coupon is my guess, unless after I have one in hand I find the FCC-ID IS the one listed with NTIA as tested already ...
The manual doesn't appear to address analog pass through.
I'm going to repeat myself slightly to make sure I'm absolutely clear about my reasoning.

I worked in the marine electronics field for over 12 years. I am a factory certified technician for over 37 major brands as a board-level SMC warranty in field technician for up 200' vessals. All maner of things from radar and sonar to custom computers I had to make to tolorate the marine enviroment for mapping and navigation software driven my GPS locatiors...

All big ticket stuff.

And if I learned one thing about dealing with manufacturing companies, the one thing you never ever do is even dare mention the name of another dealer. It gets you blackballed fast.

Perhaps this answers the question you no doubt have as to why not ''just ask''. You DON'T just ask. I will make the MM connection when a box with a valid FCC-IS is in my hand and I have been to the FCC site to look it up. Chances are the answer will be right there on their application...

Once established and with a 1st piece of product in hand, I then can tactfully ask if I am ''stepping'' on the territory of any other dealers footprint and gently slip MaxMedia in as an example and judge the response. But the deal between them and MaxMedia IS a private business matter and frankly none of my biz in their eyes. Dealer to Manufacture agreements prohibit sharing info as a rule...

You see?
Ty DigiDo,
It has been added to next weeks list of questions (scroll up)

The manual is horribly weak. I will fully rewrite it upon product review

Oh ok I understand now. I didn't get the fact that you wanted to sell these boxes before your last post. I personally would not partner with MM. Trust has got to be earned.

Well let us know how far you get. If you need to ask importing questions just pm me. I have over 10 years experience.

Fantastic, good to know Lexus2108.

Sell them, if it helps a few people...

Only that I have to enter a dealers agreement facilitates that.

After my response to next weeks questions (confirming this is still a viable product for the US market) I may shoot Mosquito a heads up and see if he's interested in larger volume sales. That would be a more responsible thing to do.

I'm a technician, he's a storefront.
