Iron Man: Official Review Thread

Reviews are starting to come in and if Variety is anything to go by it's going to be a good'un. What's more, apparently Iron Man has been retooled as a Middle-East War movie of sorts. Wow! Never saw that one coming.

I'm really looking forward to it.

I was lucky enough to snag a pass for two to see an advanced screening on April 29th. I'm stoked beyond belief as I've followed Iron Man for ages and the progress of this movie since it's announcement.

Can't wait!

Roper and Ebert-of-the-week both gave it positive reviews; they seem to especially like Downey and Paltrow in their roles.

I'm not one to jump on every comic book movie that comes down the pike, but something about this one looks interesting. Probably Robert Downey Jr, who gets better as he ages.

Early reviews stated Samuel L. Jackson was not in the film. Well, a review just posted elsewhere says he IS in the film, but that you need to stick through the end credits to see him.

So consider yourself warned.

Why is he in the film at the end of the credits?...what's the point?
Thanks for the heads up though!

Spoilers please!!!

Anything that happens "at the end of the credits" doesn't need a spoiler; it needs an alert, which is what I took that to be.
I see no reason for a spoiler. This has been talked about openly for nearly one year now. It's not a plot point. it's just a cool little thing that Marvel wanted to do for fans.

Small digital theater or the big screen large theater with the plush seats!! ...I can't frickin' decide-HELP!!
Never thought this day would come, but with the newer digital projectors I am done with 35mm. I am so sick and tired of scratched prints that are DAYS old. It's sickening. So I go digital whenever I can. The Ziegfeld is state of the art. LOVE that place. Too bad they can't get a new movie every week.

Hopefully INDY JONES and DARK KNIGHT will both be at the Ziegfeld this Summer. Every Spielberg film is, so I fairly certain about Indy. Of course, DARK KNIGHT is partial Imax (a 1/3 of the film was shot with actual Imax cameras) so I'll hit the Sony IMAX at Lincoln Square for that one.

Maybe you don't know the rules, but if you post about having a pass for an advanced screening, we want you to post your review IMMEDIATELY when you return home so we all can read the next morning at work

Hmmm...maybe he's not home yet....he did say pass for two

Well, my review will be brief....DAMN GOOD! What a blast this movie is: true to the comics, not idiotic like so many superhero movies have been lately (FF, GR, etc), and RD,Jr and the rest of the cast was fantastic. If you like Iron Man comics or just superheros in general you will NOT be disappointed with this.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say better than Spider-Man, not as good as Spider-Man2 or Batman Begins.

A few notes: SLJ is NOT in this movie. http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7010639990 There is nothing that happens after the credits (that I noticed, we were walking out when they showed the final Paramount logo). SHIELD is represented, but not in the capacity you would expect (or hope for). And, even though I typically despise her, Gwenyth Paltrow didn't suck or ruin this movie for me as I expected her to. She was great as Pepper. And the CGI that was suspect during the Superbowl commercial is NOT noticable in the finished product. Couldn't tell CG from real actors.

Just to let you know how good this movie is (and many of you will appreciate this statement) even MY WIFE LOVED IT!

Now bring on the sequel!

Nuts

Like I said, if they showed it after the last Paramount logo that's possible. I wanted to get out to the lobby for my free IM poster before they were all snagged up.

Really quickly,I saw IRON MAN last night at the ARCLIGHT in Hollywood. It is a GREAT movie!
Iron Man ranks with Superman The Movie,Spider-Man 2 and Batman Begins as comic book adaptations that get it right in terms of adaptation, story and execution.
This is not just some half-assed attempt to cash in on a iconic comic book character, which could have been the result.
It's a fun ride that doesn't take itself too seriously, but doesn't camp out either.
Plenty of Iron Man action and cool OMG images.
Don't want to spoil anymore.......
Robert Downey Jr. is truly fantastic and is IRON MAN all the way.
The presentation I saw was very dissapointing as the print was lees than pristine, and the sound in the theater was good.
It will make for one hell of a BLU RAY!
Hope you folks out there enjoy it as much as the entire audience I saw it with did......

Don't assume that is everyone's recollection of Nick Fury. What about this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nick_Fury

This is the Nick Fury I grew up with.

Oh, trust me, I've been a Marvel fan since I was a kid, I'm familiar with both versions of the character. All I'm saying is, I think I would prefer a Samuel L. Jackson Nick Fury over David Hasselhoff. In fact, that's exactly why I posted that, to show that getting Jackson to play the role isn't a case of Hollywood reinventing the character, Marvel had done the reinvention several years ago. I am also curious as to whether or not he's actually in the film, I read that the scene was actually removed from the early press screenings, but will be in the general release print.

My guess is that SLJ would be more then happy to be in a Nick Fury film or another film with the character of Nick Fury included. If you watched the extras on "Unbreakable" SLJ was all giddy about the movie saying he grew up loving comics. I have no doubts he would be all over it. It sounds like in this case they were just trying introduce him for a future film.

From what I saw of the previews the beginning at least seems very similar to the Iron Man animated movie out not too long ago. It was pretty good and this looks even better.
excellent
excellent bass too, tight.
RDJ is great and funny
Gwyneth is very sexy Favreau likes legs
score is disappointing though, this is not batman begins, batman, superman (I)
BARCO 3DLP 2K show

if the US had these in iraq and afghanistan

I don't get it.

I've never read an Iron Man comic in my life, but I can enjoy a good comic book movie. Yet I look at the trailers for this one and think they're kind of embarrassingly awful. My wife and I both snickered when we saw the first trailer.

Is this going to be the sort of thing you'd have to be a deep, hard core Iron Man fanatic to like?
never read the comic book
the effects are great, RDJ is perfect, great sound and clean image
but this is has not yet the power of BATMAN BEGINS. again the forgetable score does not help.
