Pairing the right Anamorphic lens with Sim2 C3X 1080p

I don't usually post alot, as have been overseas alot recently...

Currently planning to build a new home in Adelaide, S.A and have assigned a room which is 8.5 metres by 6.1 metres in dimension with 3 metre ceilings. I am of the old school of 16:9, but want to move to the exotic 2:35 with its WOW factor.

Having recently purchased a Sim2 C3X 1080p, I was hoping someone could steer me in the right direction of getting an anamorphic lens which would aptly suit this model.

I'm hoping to start a construction thread in the future, when the builders decide to pull their finger out.......and construct my home!!!!

Regards

MK

I posted this in the 2:35 section and was told to give this one a go, as response would be more prevalent...

Not that I did not get a good response, I'm just weighing up all available options...

That was quick.

I use the ISCOIII as do most 1080 owners. With the lens being slightly recessed, there can be problems with smaller lenses. The Schneider is too small. The 1080 was designed and tested with the ISCOIII from the get go. I believe the Panamorph UH480, Prismasonic HD 5000, CAVX Aussimorph lenses work. Im sure owners will chime in.

My advice would be, if you've got the cheese then throw down for the ISCO.

What screens, and at what sizes and budget are you looking?

Yeh, I was still around when I read your post...

Looking at the curved SMX with side masking... Considering 11/12 ft wide, as the room will be around 28ft x 20ft x 10ft - and considering the brightness of the projector, this should not be an issue. I did consider SR with masking, but I was not overly satisfied that the extra cost was justified compared to the cost of the SMX...

I'm really new with all this, so any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated....

The Isco 3 still rains king. There are other stand alone lens as well, the Panamorph 380
and the Prismasonic. The Isco and the Panamorph require a motorized sled if you decide to move it out of the way for 16x9. You can leave it in place at all times if you are using a video processor and let the VP scale all your aspect ratios for you. Ive done this and while the purist may argue the technique the ease of use and results are excellent.
The Prismasonics are motorized and self contained in one small housing. Very sharp and the new model has no to very little chroma aberration if any. Worth checking out if your looking for an all in one motorized solution.
To summarize , if you happen to come across a deal on anyone of these I would pursue it as I do not think you will find any lacking in performance. Best of luck. Glad to see you joining the 235:1 club.

Note: I forgot to question which lens does your Sim2 contain..is it the T1 or T2.
If it is the T1 I do not think the Prismasonic would be a good choice as it has the smallest aperture of them all. All the others will be fine.

I know this wasn't your question, but are you sure on the curved screen?

Prior to going for my 14ft Vistascope, I looked at curved screens. The theory sounded good but I couldn't live with one. Far too much of a distraction. Some people love them some hate them.

Make sure you get a demo before to commit a cent.

Dont stop asking questions until you are 100% sure. There are loads of people here with similar and identical PJ/lens combos, all of them are very helpful.

Is this still a problem with the newest Prismasonic model?

BTW, I see they have a quote from some strange dude on their front page.

Misspellings and all

While the new lens is being marketed as larger I found it marginally so.
The Panamorph and Isco3 are both aperture kings and will work with almost everything.

Thanks Alan....And the lens is the T2 - Standard long throw. The choice of lens is throwing a lot of confusion my way, and its very difficult to get a demonstration of one in Adelaide....I'm basically going in blind and applying knowledge from here to my end choice...Do I go for the king of kings the ISCOIII or Panamorph/Prismasonic. I want to go motorised either way...

I've been offered the Schneider, but have been told this is not a good lens for the SIM2 C3X...

ColdMac, TBH I'm not sure...Is pin cushion such a big issue on the flatter screens?! Would going flat be such a 2nd choice?! Its a lot of questions and I am trying to learn and absorb as much as I can so that one can come to the right decision.

14ft, now that is big...

if you are having issues getting gear demoed... with the amount of scratch you are looking to throw down... it may serve you well to attempt a trip to somewhere with a greater selection of gear to preview. there are LOADS of folks here who would love to open up for an evening of viewing.

It may be a wise investment if for nothing other than piece of mind.

I do admit to watching it but not on my C3X 1080 but rather my Sony 70" LCD XBR RP. I guess that I am saving bulb life for movies

You enjoy that show? My daughter loves it...I detest the show...Mind you, I must admit to liking Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love, who won Simon Cowell's X Factor, another one of his awful shows...lol
