I’ve just watched the remake of viral classic The Omega Man (1971) that stared the late (Charlton Heston). In the new film I Am Legend staring Will Smith the last know survivor of deadly virus that has wiped out everything he ever knew on earth, now transformed into a mutated terrifying hungry night crawling creatures.

So it dawned on me, after watching the two versions of the film on region 2 DVD, how many other type of films I have as well as seeing a few over the years ether at the cinema or at home?

I’ve included a few other titles that share a common similarity with the theme.

Outbreak (1995) DVD region 2 got monkey carries lethal virus that is spread airborne and attaches to human community with scary results.

The Omega Man (1971) seen on VHS PAL same as I Am Legend

The Andromeda Strain 1971 DVD region 2 got. A manmade virus falls back to earth via a satellite within a small town community, only two saviours a man and baby hold the key to finding a cure?

I Am Legend (2007) DVD region 2 got. The last man on earth is immune to virus infection, now looks for a vaccine cure.

Invasion of the Body snatchers 1956 seen on TV same as

Invasion of the Body Snatchers 1978 seen on TV same as

Body Snatchers 1993 seen on VHS PAL same as below

The Invasion DVD (2007) region 2 got. Alien virus travels though space and gets attached to the space shuttle that crashes, sending debris over a wide area were most people have touched the debris which carries the virus. When falling asleep the body is taken over literally over night, into soulless beings.

Virus (1999) seen on TV. Russian research vessel discovers an alien virus on boat at sea, you get the picture?

The Thing (1982) DVD region 2 got. A dog carries a deadly alien virus that can destroy mankind, where paranoia takes over more with lack of trust within the base camp at Antarctica.

Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) DVD region 2 got. Once bitten the virus is in you and you will be a vampire!

Rabid (1977) seen on VHS PAL and it freaked me out when I saw this!

And just about ever Zombie film made?

What about that crazy movie George C. Scott was in back the mid seventies, I think? Rage, I believe it was. Something to do with some type of infection. It wasn't exactly horror, but scared me as a kid.

You seem to have overlooked the original 1964 Vincent Price film The Last Man on Earth which was the first production of the Richard Mathieson story I Am Legend. You can find this one on DVD in the bargain bins sometimes, I have a copy.

This 1964 Black and White film was the original Zombie movie, fully 4 years before the Romero production Night of the Living Dead. It was relatively well made - about typical for Vincent Price - but was produced in Spain and lacked for a US distributor. But the idea of reanimated flesh-eating ghouls is fully developed, along with the version of screenplay that follows the original short story most closely.

Viral theme?

I would think the Resident Evil movies would fall under that (T-Virus)
