Perhaps Panasonic is making sure the player works well, something that Samsung can't seem to do. I guess you have to ask yourself which is better, first to market or first to market with a usable player.

Most of the issues appear to be with the BD-P1200. I think the 1400 has been much better.

I have the original BD-P1000 and it works fine with all disks I have ever tried. Of course it is slow and a bit clunky and I don't tend to stress the special features at all. But the picture is great and the sound just fine.

I agree- I have a Philips BDP9000 which is the equivalent of the Samsung BD-P1000. It has been a good player for me so far. I am interested in getting a new player so I can have the new audio codecs- I have been spoiled with TrueHD using my HD-DVD player. However, I need internal decoding and if the 1500 doesn't decode TrueHD into 5.1 multichannel PCM then I may pass. A PS3 looks real tempting.

I wouldn't buy anything from samsung, I am still waiting on the Panny, but if the Sony one comes out first, then I will get it.

Don't know what you guys are talking about.........have a Samsung plasma, 5884, the tv is fantastic, best picture I have ever seen.
Also have Samsung 1400 Blu Ray player, have ugraded the firmware a few times, the unit is flawless, perfect.

Called BB - the guy said availbility starting May 18th in store. He said the big warehouses in Dallas & OK dont' even have them in stock.

So I hear everyone saying the old sammy are slow and terrible to upgrade. However since it is a $100 cheaper, I'd like to try it out atleast before buying a Panny.

samsung ever fix their hdmi handshake issue?? my dvd player was complete junk, i'd have to retart the player every time changing sources because it would lose the pic or get one soild color. Never had a problem with the XBOX or PS3 and even the toshiba A2.

All you Samsung haters,go stuff it.I had a 1200 which had a great picture,but yes problems-I sent it back within 30 days.I then got a BD5000-another great BD picture as well as SD upconvert picture and much faster response times.With firmware update it has worked flawless.There is no current player under $1500 that has a better picture.I will bet you $500.00 to prove me wrong.

I wonder if the new Philips 7200 is related to this Samsung? I recall the Sam's Club site stating made in China for the Philips. Wouldn't Samsung be made in Korea? They are both basically being released at the same time--making me wonder. I saw someone speculate the Sylvania player may be the Philips clone, but the Philips weighs 9+ #'s and the Sylvania like 5.6--sounds totally different.

I'm pretty sure all bluray players have a great picture. Not like they need to interlace like upscaling players.

I too had the 5000 and it was a piece of junk. If all you care about is picture then it is pretty nice (as long as the disc is compatible). If you care at all about HD soundfields it is a waste of money. Hopefully they will fix it and not leave all the 5000 owners who care about next generation sound in the dark.

Looks like another Blu-Ray manufacturer is following Denon, Toshiba and LG's lead and forgoing 5.1 analog outs (according to the spec sheet at Best Buy). This one looks completely different from the previous Samsung Blu-Ray players, but Sammy didn't infringe on Coby and Emerson's $45 Love's Truck Stop/Walgreens/Hastings design like Philips did. BD-Live ready after firmware updates!

I have the first generation 1000 and I'm pretty happy with it, but after experiencing Samsung's world class customer service ( being sarcastic here), I think I'll definitely look elsewhere for the next player. It's a shame too, because they have great ideas for products, but fail miserably at producing them and supporting them.

+1 1000 was not a bad 1st gen player, others after that...not so good.

You live in Marin and have a quick and easy shot up the 101 to Humboldt. Unless you are talking to someone in Vancouver, I hope you're not asking anyone east of the MS (or even the Sierra Nevada range) for a hookup. You'd be seriously disappointed with the results.

Back on topic. Why is this player not yet on Sammy's website other than a couple of lame press releases?

I bought the 1400 mainly for the internal decoding to my older receiver. I paid $230 for it and it has worked flawlessly. I could have spent $1700 more and purchased the Denon 3800 that you have, but it is extremely tough to justify that amount. Though I would be able to slam other brands on this board
