wouldn't turning off the fans be a bad thing?
Also I have mad clouding is there anyway to fix this or do I have to take it back for another.

Get about 100-150 hours on the set then look for the clouding, if it hasn't gone away in that time it won't go away, same with flashlights.

From what I understand the processing is 14 or 16 bit but only 10 of it is allocated for picture processing. The rest is for the DLNA. I could be wrong.

yes these sammys support 1080p over component, but i have been having problems with error message.. "mode not supported" on my ln52a750 when playing assassins creed over component at 1080p at 1080i it runs perfect. Other games run fine at 1080p over component. The halo issue is during dark room conditions and at certain angles. hope this helps.

Can owners of the 52" set comment on black levels compared to previous Samsung models and perhaps Sony XBR4,5,6,7,8 models?

+1! The processor in the 650 is 12-bit and the 750 shows as 16-bit...there is no 10-bit in the processors as far as I know for these TVs. (at least from the diagrams).

Also...I am pretty sure the VGA spec for the TV shows it running in 60Hz...so the claim of "Full Time" 120Hz is questionable. Also, other people spoke with Sammy and got different answers....so I am not sure I'd take all the tech advice as true.

It would be really nice to have a Q&A with the an engineer. I wonder if they ever do that?

The 750 displays the source's frequency before processing not after.

Don't expect an update for Pillaring. What you might try is lowering your contrast. Pillaring is worst when contrast is over 85.

what's clouding and mura and amp? sorry, no idea. please help if you can.

AMP=Auto Motion Plus setting on the tv. For clouding and Mura, imagine the screen as the sky. Clouding is light areas on the tv that look like a cloud in the sky. Mura is just an overall white type haze over the screen, i.e. it looks more like "wispy" clouds as opposed to well defined individual clouds. Basically, an uneven screen without the blatant cloud shape. Flashlights are bright spot in the corners of the tv that look like a flashlight beam coming from that corner.

How about those of us who own the future XBR 10/11/12...21/22?. Can we chime in?.

Stud: If i were to get one, I am more set on the 750 vs the 650. I just like it better aesthetically and also like the sub-woofer feature as I do not use audio equipment. I don't know if the mura/purple haze is just limited to the 650 or not enough "nuts" own the 750 to be uber critical about them

Nevertheless, if it came down to putting up with halo (outside panel cosmetic misfortune) vs the in-panel un-uniformities which plague some 650s, I'd go with the former

I agree, I would rather have the halo and a perfect panel than no halo and a cloudy panel. I have real nice sound system so the sub-woofer is a non-issue for me. I mount it on the wall, so the stand shape is a non-issue, and there is reports of clouding/mura on the 750 so I figure I would probably lose either way there. In any case, if the clouding/flashlights are bad, it would go back anyway. If I get a purple haze set, it will definately go back, and Samsung WILL be replacing it until there is Purple Haze no more. So that brings me back to the Halo. I figure I can get Samsung to admit the panel is defective if I get excessive clouds or purple haze, but not so sure about the halo. And I refuse to put tape on my brand new tv. So, to me, the 650 is a better option (oh, don't care about the internet stuff either, already have all I need with my PS3), but I realize that to others, the look of the 650 may not be acceptable.

Seriously, though, I agree. I asked him, "I'm talking about the processing, not the panel" and got a flip answer.

Also, he carefully avoided answering the question when I asked if the 650's and 750's were essentially the same. I don't think he was trying to hide anything -- I just dont think he had any idea.

But what possible reason would there be for the set to switch to 60hz to display the VGA input? Repeating a frame requires no image processing.

2- If some of the 650s are mired by mura, then why not the 750s?. After all, they are the same panel, are they not?. They all emanate from the same assembly line, do they not?. I just think that there are less 750s floating around and less finicky owners dickering with the BL and contrast/brightness to enhance the mura. But then again, I could be wrong

Anyone with experience know if it is worth getting an extended warranty with a Samsung TV? I know consumer reports has gives Samsung a good reliablity rating, but I'm sure it is relative. I'll probably either get the tv from Big River or BB. Big River has an Samsung extended warranty and BB is their own.

If anyone owned a previous Samsung model, how did it treat you over time. I'm not one to buy a new TV ever year or two (for instance my current TV is 8 years old), though I have set my self up that I'll probably have to buy a new one in 3-4 years with the quickly changing technology. . .

Mura, clouding, and flashlights just happen to be a flaw with LCD panels. Some have them, some dont. Any brand/model LCD tv can have these issues. Just gotta roll the dice to get a good one.

I would say Pillaring maybe is not the right word, the backlight goes up to 10 sometimes on it own if I switch movies or something then that is when it happens its very weird and has to be a board problem or could be fixed by a firmware update I hope.

But it can cause input and other delay. There has to be something "processing" to repeat a frame.

To be sure. There are a lot more owners on the 650 thread, therefore more complaints of mura.

I am only kidding Skepticism is fine, folks, keep it up. Just glad I have been able to fuel both sides of the debate.

Now I will do it again:

On the one hand: I scrolled back through this thread, and counted 3 posts from people who compared the 650 and 750. All said they liked the 750 PQ better.

On the other hand: I have looked at both sets (adjusting each to my personal preferenecs.) PQ seemed about the same to me. However, I did not see them at the same time. So to some extent I was working of memory when I looked at the 750.

However, I did notice that the default settings for the 750 were quite different from those of the 650. That may account for some of the differences that have been reported.

In the end, this is what I think:

I believe that the internal architectures are significantly different, as indicated by the SM diagrams that have been posted.
But the PQ did not look different to me (though I viewed them at different times.).

I disagree. The content of a frame does not have to be manipulated in any way to repeat it. All it has to do is sit in a buffer. Processing is manipulation of the frame itself - color correction, edge enhancement, motion interpolation. That's the stuff that causes input lag, and that is why it is bypassed in game mode.

And think about it: if throttling back to 60hz would improve performance of the set, why would such an "improvement" be reserved for a lame analog PC connection?

Can anyone post a link to an online User Manual for the 750? I'm still trying to confirm whether the 750 supports 1080p over component or just HDMI. I know one poster said that it did, but before I make a decision I want to confirm this.

If there is no user manual, could someone post the best number to call to get a Samsung rep to ask these questions?

I just purchased the 46A650 from big river last Thursday and thought about getting the extended warranty, but the MasterCard I purchased it on offers a year long warranty after the manufacturer's warranty expires - so it's essentially getting another year for free. But there is a lot of fine print to read. If you want the extra few years after that I'd get it, but I'm gonna hope that if the tv lasts 2 years then it should last many more after that too.
