that's promising. so you're streaming (wirelessly?) from your PS3 or from your mac and getting full playback without any major artifacting on both audio and video

I don't have that Samsung wireless adapter. So currently this is via ethernet from my Time Capsule, from my Mac Pro. if the original video source was good, the encoded video will be the same.

I can't say if the data streams, longer clips noticeably take more time to prepare for playing. But all the clips i viewed were not over 5 minutes.

when watching 4:3, how do you change the sidebars from light gray to black?

That's controlled from the settings in your cable or satellite box

What do you have your backlight and brightness set to? if they are set to high you will wash out your blacks causing the side bars to be light gray and not black.

Did anybody watch anything on TNT, TBS or FX HD today? All three channels had issues with the "stutter" type problem. Not the same type of problem as the 71, but the source type that does not go away with AMP turned off. I watched some of Mr. and Mrs Smith today, and major issues. Also watched some Conair and it was an incredible picture, but had issues as well. I wonder if this is a Directv handshake issue with those channels, or if it is directly from the source itself, i.e. TNT etc. Does anybody get this with Comcast or Dish?

I am thinking I might just have to contact Directv, as it is obviously an issue on their end.

I do have the TV speakers set to OFF. My full up system has a an SA cable box, a TIVO HD box and a PS3. I have been putting the system together for about a week. Everything is HDMI. I do not have any RCA, component or composite cables.

....

I've tried swapping/different HDMI cables and they do not make any difference. At this point I think it's either the LN52A750 HDMI input (but I've tried all four) or the Receiver output. I think HDMI uses a two way handshake communication scheme so I guess it's possible for the Receiver output to be picking up a signal from the TV input and erroneously causing a problem but I do not know how to debug and determine for sure which end is actually causing the problem.

If anyone has any ideas please chime in. Right now I'm looking at having to flip a coin on which one to return first and any help would be appreciated.

Check to see if your receiver has an option for HDMI Audio Output, and set that to 'Off'.
I think it is a HDMI handshake/DRM issue and that the TV is not recognised as a legitimate destination for 5.1 audio, so turning off audio output via HDMI at the receiver may solve this.

Krishna

Edit: Look at pages 24 and 53 of your STR-DG820 manual.
Set 'AUDIO OUT' to 'AMP' in the HDMI menu.

I watched part of Conair (about an 1 and 15 minutes) on Comcast. I did notice 2 instances of split second stutter type thing. It was really quick. Like you said the picture was awesome.

I hadn't noticed anything similar in any of the other shows I've seen on anything else on any other day.

Yesterday I received my 46A750 in exchange of 4669. Initial impression - picture quality is excellent. Euro cup - what a difference between 69 and 750! Wow!

Didn't look for clouding or other problems - yet.

Some issues - comments:

Reflection: Little bit annoyed with the reflection in the dark scenes and in the the day time.

Viewing angle: 4669 was much better than 750. Around 45 degree, picture starts to fade. I went to local Fry's today to see whether this problem is just for my TV or all of them having same issues. I found out 750,650 and 550 - all of them have same issues. But 65 series (there was no 69 or 71 series on display) had better viewing angle than this 2008 models. Any idea?

HDMI2/DVI: Man! what a mess! I attached my PS3 on HDMI2 and it said 'Mode not supported'. What? Then I read the manual and found out - it is not a 'real HDMI'. It supports only DVI - > HDMI and you need to connect the audio separately! Why they are calling it HDMI? I think they should not advertise HDMI x 4. May be HDMI x 3 1/2.

Remote: Just sucks. 69/71 series remote was much better. There were dedicated buttons. I wish I could keep the old remote. I could not find a 'freeze' button. Looks like I need to dedicate some buttons in my one-for-all remote. After using iPod's click wheel - this remote's click wheel is just felt like a childish copying!

DNIe: Why it is only available for Dynamic mode?

Menu: Very poorly designed.
Text: Was much crispier before. Why they had to change the font - who knows?
Info Link: Weather section: Why you have to press button to select either today's temp or 6-day forecast? Why can't you just see both of them at the same time?

The 69 was a matte finish, no? Then obviously there will be more reflection. I don't think it is that bad though.

I would personally disagree. I'm not sure about the 69 or 71 directly, but think the viewing angle of this TV is incredible. I've been able to watch games and movies at extremish angles and have been more than happy. Each their own I guess.

That is incorrect. HDMI2 is the only one of the 4 HDMI ports that supports DVI/HDMI, however HDMI2 will support HDMI>HDMI just fine (I actually tried it again after I read your post). I have no idea why it would say 'Mode not supported' but like I said HDMI>HDMI on port 2 works fine for me.

As for separate audio cables that is only if you are using DVI>HDMI, as DVI doesn't pass through audio on it's own.

Where did you see this in the manual? The only reference that I saw was that HDMI2 was the only DVI compatible port of the 4, but not exclusively DVI.

Yes it does. It's more the lack of functionality of the remote then the actual design (layout) of the remote. You just can't do a lot with it.

Don't know why on those.

lol
Yup, what a mess. I kept on getting "Mode Not Supported" on VGA support no matter what & other people kept saying it was working fine for them. I read someone on the xxa650 thread was getting Mode Not Supported with HDMI & 1080i with his STB on the 1st HDMI input & now you.

FYI HDMI2/DVI works perfectly with HDMI connections across all resolutions with my PS3.

I have seen some of the same issues with VGA. On my 4669 I had a perfect picture. Playing the same shows on the 750 they jump around. No idea what the problem is - did not make any changes to the Media Center box. Could the picture mode make a difference (movie vs standard) - AMP and all the other settings are disabled for VGA.

I might try DVI>HDMI and see if that makes a difference, otherwise I am going to have to go through the support process again.

pikoo - agree on the 4669 vs 750 comments. You get used to the glare. Although, I actually think my 4669 had a better picture. The 750 looks kind of dull (using the settings from the calibration thread zerog's). I am sure it is just getting the 750 configured accurately like I had the 4669.

Not sure if this was previously discussed--if so I apologize. That said, can someone point me in the right direction. I have a Omnimount ULPT-L mount that is the ultrea low profile---the regular plug pushes out too far from the wall so I am using a slimline 6 foot extension cord (the flat head type that only protrudes from the wall about 3/4 of an inch. I still can't get the TV to fully close to the wall mount.

How are others handling this? There must be a better way than having 10-plus feet of excess cord. I've actually got the same problem with the HDMI cause I am running 22AWG but they aren't as bad and I've found right angle adapters for HDMI anyway.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

This may be a problem with your TV.. I've had no problems using 2 different HDMI devices (including audio) through HDMI 2. I guess we should test all our HDMI ports.

I've got nothing connected to the coaxial RF input, yet the set still includes "TV" when cycling through available inputs. Anyone know how to get that off the list?

I haven't hooked anything up to HDMI2 yet, but I think that is not quite right. More likely, there is a problem with your set.

HDMI2 has an audio input because if you hook it up to a PC with a DVI port, you need a way to get audio to the TV (DVI does not carry audio.) But other posters have reported getting audio from a PC via HDMI on this port.

HDMI2 is special, though because it is the only input that that:
  1. Has separate audio input you can use if you PC has DVI out
  2. Performs EDID data exchange with the video card when labeled as "PC"
But I believe that it can be used as a standard HDMI input as well.

GREAT!!
As soon as this baby hits our shores Im all over it

Just a thought, maybe this aspect should be updated on the initial post where the information is?

I have to agree, viewing angle is not the 178 degrees (which works out to 89 degrees from center) claimed. I do get a little better than your 45 degrees from center, though. For me, this is not a problem -- I have it in a corner and everyone is generally less than 45 degrees from dead center.

Edit: by the way, I cant imagine wanting to watch the TV at 89 degrees from center anyway!

Thanks for all the responses.

HDMI2/DVI: Should I go thru the repair process? Man! This is ridiculous. Can't they produce a TV problem-free? What about f/w upgrade? Can that fix the problem? Mine has 1004. For f/w upgrade - it is a good idea to call samsung - right?

Viewing angle: Can that be a problem of the my panel? I was so excited to get my 750.

This is my 12th LCD TV in 2 years. Philips 6, Sharp 4, Samsung 2. I thought - I am getting a 750 and I can put an end to it.

I must say I just had the most amazing TV watching experience this weekend.

I want to give HDNET props for having the most beautiful HD picture on D* that I've seen. Watching Dream 4 MMA event was outstanding. If you guys have HDNET watch it, just excellent.

Mosh~~

Alot of us have problem free tv's. Sheesh, sounds like alot of user error/pickiness, or really bad luck to me

You should not upgrade your firmware or call Samsung for repair. Sounds like you need to return the tv and switch display technologies.

FWIW, I have a Samsung 1500 blueray hooked up to hdmi 2, no problems.

I think this had to be a network problem, as I have Cox cable in OKC and experienced the same signal type issues.

I will try switching the HDMI cable (monoprice) as some forum members suggested. But, I have little hope - as the same cable is working on HDMI3.

haha, another kicker... i am using a monoprice 1.3a cable.

try a hard ps3 reset, it will put out 420p over hdmi (hold the power button on the front of the ps3 after you turn on and it should hard reset) and allow you to choose qualified display settings for your tv over hdmi.

but it sounds like ur dvi/hdmi2 input is messed up... good luck man.

I am getting my 750 professionally calibrated today by umr.

Is it possible to turn off the sound that the LN52A750 makes when it is turned on or turned off? Thanks
post #2880 of 12473
Hmm, speaking of calibration, I'm even thinking of writing some software that you can hook up your laptop or desktop to the set, and use that to check for motion flaws, clouding/flashlighting, and dead pixels, and what not. This could be a good set to use some software on, unfortunately, there's no way that you can test the AMP through that, since the PC input won't allow for it.
