There's no need for guesswork. The credits for all of those titles list Criterion personnel (Maria Palazzola and/or Lee Kline) as the telecine supervisors. Same with Design for Living
, though Videodrome
is their old transfer from the DVD. And Universal did release Malkovich
last year in Europe with a different transfer. I'm also convinced Criterion's Dazed and Confused
transfer isn't the same as Universal's -- different color timing, radically different framing on some shots -- but I don't have the credits for it. Like Videodrome
, it looks pretty much like the Criterion DVD.
