Compared to past video releases, the CC BD is a revelation.

I just looked-over the entire collection at B&N.com, and one could do worse than to acquire their entire catalog for the artwork alone. Really gorgeous stuff. Makes me wonder if they'd ever have posters printed.

Should be about time for the Barnes and Noble sale, assuming they are still doing it this year. Anybody heard anything?

It just started.

And indeed it has. What a difference a day makes.

The local B&N didn't seem to be aware yet. No stickers or signs.

One film I saw-I think it was Damsels in Distress-had a criterion poster for Grand Illusion on a wall. They gave credit to criterion for it too, and I think they mentioned it in the commentary as well. It was not full one-sheet size, maybe 12"X18" or so.

A really great film, Seconds:

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film4/blu-ray_reviews_59/seconds_blu-ray.htm

I am impressed with what I see in these images, great grading, full grain, overall nice detail and any artifacts are hard to find.

Watched the new release of Babette's Feast. OAR of 1.66 and great PQ/AQ. And its still a terrific film.

Finally Hamlet done right, To Be Or Not To Be:

The images are on disappointing side for me. Softer then other Criterions and some noticeable EE.
This is probably the best Jack Benny film, if anybody cares.

November releases are announced.

Frances Ha
City Lights
Tokyo Story
Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman (27 Disc Set)

I'm really looking to get the Zatoichi set for sure!

And all the new releases are dual format. No separate Blu-ray and DVD releases.

Is there any ringing in The Seconds transfer?

Thanks,
Tom

I didn't hear any! [rimshot] biggrin.gif

Seriously, I watched Seconds a couple weeks ago and thought the image was well-mastered for the new Criterion release.

If you're interested in an online review, Blu-ray-dot-com gave Seconds a 5/5 rating for video quality:

The key points from the press release for It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World:

Restored 4K digital film transfer of the general release version of the film, with 5.1 surround Master Audio soundtrack on the Blu-ray

New high-definition digital transfer of a 197-minute extended version of the film, reconstructed and restored by Robert A. Harris using visual and audio material from the longer original road-show version—including some scenes that have been returned to the film here for the first time—with 5.1 surround Master Audio soundtrack on the Blu-ray

Does this qualify for a "ton"?

I'm tempted too. The film's primary attraction for me was its sheer spectacle. The BD's 4K transfer plus a 5.1 audio track might just do this. It would be fun to see this restored version in a theater.

I can not wait for the 4k version of Thief!!!
thank you Criterion!
