Can't Program DTA800 Box

I bought the DTA800 convertor box from RCA for the bedroom TV. I hooked the antenna up to the box and the box to the television as the instructions called for. ALL I get is snowy static on the television. The channel on the back of the box is set for Channel 3 as it should be for my area in the Dallas area. I am not getting anything to appear on the screen. What do I need to do to get something to appear on the screen so I can program this thing so I can watch TV??
I disconnected it for now so I can watch it. I need to figure out what is going on before I run out of time... Can anyone help??

I have it hooked to a Toshiba combo (TV/DVD/VHS) television. I've tried all the codes in their book...nothing brings up the menu to program with.

thanks
Barbara

Did the little yellow light come on at the front of the box?

If the power light on the box is on and it still doesn't work.

Is the tv tuned to channel 3?

Also disconnect and reconnect the coax, you could have a bad connection.

The remote that came with the DTA800 should get you started, don't worry about getting your other remote to work until after you get it setup.

If you have a set of composite cables (Red, White, and Yellow) and your Toshiba combo (TV/DVD/VHS) television has inputs on the back I would use that instead of coaxial cable to connect the DTA800 convertor box to your Toshiba combo. Then set the Toshiba to video input.

Thank you, thank you, thank you... I got it working...Channels are so nice and clear... Appreciate the help. I guess I had been looking at it and trying to for so long and getting frustrated over the weekend that I didn't realize I needed the TV on Channel 3 also.
I do have a question now... Now that it is set up, I have a 19" screen but the picture doesn't fill the screen...there is a border all around that displays what is on. Is there a way to get rid of the border and have the picture fill the entire screen like it did before installing the box? Or am I stuck with the border around the picture (giving me a smaller picture to watch).

thanks for all your help... You all are terrific. Right now, I'm using the coax cable but may switch to the other later on.

That's the consequence of watching digital on an analog display. Depends on how the image was made you can get borders all the way around or top and bottom or sides. You have controls in the converter box where you could zoom in and fill the screen by getting rid of some of the image. Check your display options for what you can have.

I found the spot to change the size of the picture and the first time I clicked on Full Screen, it looked horrible and I put it on Letterbox. It really didn't look right so checked out the full screen again and this time it looks great. I now have the picture on the TV looking like it did before I hooked the box up... not sure what made it change this time, but it did and working great and I'm amazed at how wonderful all the channels look now..no fuzzy static anymore. The picture on this TV is now just as clear as the living room TV with the dish network.

Thank you for all your help. Appreciate it
have a great day.
