@gzpbc, I'll try out that config soon, just to see if you're right. However, I must caution, I happen to love running AMP on Medium to bring a 3D look to HDTV on this. I'm hoping that this will make motion "pop" on here, but I can't really guarantee that setting will do much. Here goes.

Yeah, i made a mistake when I put AMP on Low. I actually run it on Med for the same reason that you do.
I just edited my original post.

But you're right, tho. That config does hit the sweet spot. I originally had it configured to CNET's settings, and I actually used the Dynamic mode with DNIe, but felt that was a little TOO poppy in PQ, so I decided to go to yours, and it is far better, and more natural looking. Thank you... Oh, and of course, CNET's settings weren't exactly configured around the 1012.2 FW, either, that was done around the earlier stuff, and I did notice a bit of a difference in the PQ as I updated.

just looking for a few new calibration settings .. i saw one on the last page (gpzbc) with FW 1012.2 but on a ss02 panel

I have 1012.2 with a sq01 panel, would that make much of a difference, or if anyone else has my FW and panel im up for trying anything im just way to indecisive ;lol

and another quick question...

I thought other than sports and fast action you wanted amp ON but just on the tv ( satellite etc ) But when u switched over to BR or a DVD u wanted amp off because BR wasnt intended to have it on...

So my questions are

When do you use AMP ( L, M, H, etc )

And when do you turn on AND off other settings

color tone

DNIe
film mode
blue mode
edge enhancement
xvYCC

This would clear up ALLLLOT of confusion with me on when and why you should use certain settings

thank you
post #1267 of 1433
AMP: whenever you want to
color tone: whatever looks best to you
DNIe: whenever you want to
film mode: Auto1
blue mode: this is only for calibrating with color bars, unless you like watching an all blue-black picture
edge enhancement: whatever looks best to you
xvYCC: leave it off

gotcha all personal preference.. just didnt know about dnie, film mode and xvYCC , cuz some ppl on here say to turn it of because it makes things lag or slow down

But it is ok to use any of these features for blu ray as well?
post #1269 of 1433
Yup, if you want to.

I just got mine from the 750 calibration thread .. its a great starting point especially with the color space and white balance settings...

then i just started to adjust to my likings of the more basic settings , ( back light, gamma color, contrast etc )

I calibrated my 750 with an i1Pro and Calman software. Looks great. When viewing items in the library, are my settings being used? Also, this is a bedroom set, thus I am using the 750's speakers. What audio should I send to the 750 from Blu-Ray & a DirecTV receiver, DD or PCM? Thanks.

I wish that CNET would update their settings for the newest firmware for the set. Their settings are so old now, that it may look totally dull with the newest updates. I mean, I did tweak it a few notches in some areas more than others, like setting the Dynamic instead of Movie for certain sources, like cable broadcast and for the X360, and such, and activating DNIe, and setting AMP to Medium, that improves the input lag a little bit, too.

I finished calibrating my LN40A750 using an i1Pro & Calman software. These yielded a gamma of 2.21, 48FTL, RED = 21%, Green = 70% & BLUE = 7% (of L). Temp. = 65K. Let me know what you think.

following gpzbc i calibrated my ln40a750 with a 1013 fw and panel sx03 with some noticeable differences.. especially in the brightness.. i found gpzbc to be too dark. maybe fw differences or perhaps panel... here are my settings for people with the new fw and panel version:

Been away from AVS a long time. Glad to see Shark and Studdad are still here, and 8iron has returned.

Before I disappeared, there was some dissatisfaction among some of you who were trying to calibrate with 1012. There was also some concern that it might be causing a bit of stutter, even with AMP off.

What is the current thinking on this? I can see that I am not getting decent resolution on digital cable (1080i), and want to upgrade to get a working film mode.

Just picked up an i1, going to get serious about calibration.
post #1278 of 1433
Yah I'm still around, LOL. This LCD rocks. I've got a DVDO Edge for it now, too.

I'm seriously considering an i1 Pro, and CalMan.

Not sure about 1012 issues, I'm still on 1009. Chris, what firmware are you on?

These are my latest settings. It's a combination of Zerog6's settings (baseline) and tweaks using Sirluckyj's settings (only used the Custom Settings and WARM-1 (instead of WARM-2)). Pretty darn good picture quality. With Zerog6's settings it was just "a tad" red, but better than most until I tweaked it some more and borrowed some of Sirluckyj's settings. Thanks Sirluckyj!!

I've also attached a text file of the service menu walkthrough Zerog6 created from a message interchange with KJGarrison. I must warn you to be careful when going into the service menu. I take no responsibility in any screw ups that may happen. It's also prudent to jot down the original settings before making changes, so that you can revert back when needed.

this is the same reading I keep getting for white balance....but it's off. Check out your light greys...they will be pink. Not sure why the i1 is having issues with this set

I don't see this issue. My firmware is 1012.

e.mann30,

I don't get it. Why use the TV speakers instead of the surround speakers you mentioned? Although the built-in speakers are Ok, I can't see how they would be better than the surround sound setup you may have. It kind of defeats the purpose of having the surround sound speakers. Just curious...

If it helps, Zerog6 and others on this thread have posted their sound setups too. I don't have the info on hand for the others, but Zerog6 posted his along with his TV calibration settings. You'll have to search the thread to get the others.

Here's what I wrote down:
100Hz = +1
300Hz = -1
1KHz = 0
3KHz = +2
10KHz = +4

Later...

Scratch that, the Edge is being returned. It's a convenient switch, but the video processing in the 750 is superior. The Edge is also a buggy product at this time. The Edge is just not worth the cost for use with the 750.

I'm on 1008. The version you are on is the first one that fixed the film mode, I think.

Not sure when I will actually have the *time* to calibrate with my i1. Funny thing, I bought it to calibrate my PC monitors, and haven't even gotten around to doing that.....

Hello everyone,
I am newbie to this Firmware and Panel issue. How do I varify my firmware version and panel type (SS01/SQ01 etc). FYI I own the Asian Series 750 Samsung LA40A750. Thanks.
post #1288 of 1433
There should be a sticker on the right side of the tv that lists the model, serial, and panel #.
