I just bought a LN52A750, can someone tell me why when I am on standard definition channels, it does not fill up the screen. I have to use wide fit.

Because SD channels are in 4:3 aspect ratio. Your new screen is a 16:9 aspect ratio. The 4:3 content will not fill the whole screen unless you alter it with Wide mode.

I've also attached a text file of the service menu walkthrough Zerog6 created from a message interchange with KJGarrison. I must warn you to be careful when going into the service menu. I take no responsibility in any screw ups that may happen. It's also prudent to jot down the original settings before making changes, so that you can revert back when needed.

Enjoy!

Is there a language setting in the SM? I live in Korea and have the domestic 750 (actually a 780 here) and there is no language option in the regular option menu.

Just a very emphatic thank you to Zerog's calibration post on page 2.

After days and days of research we decided on the a750 for my dad's first HDTV. After I calibrated it using just AVIA, my dad and I were both very disappointed. blacks were crushed and there was a TERRIBLE pink hue to skin tones that I just couldn't get rid of that was bothering my dad constantly.

I used your settings, and the difference is night and day! My dad is now so excited about his new TV. It looks just stunning now, literally.

Thank you zerog!

I believe zerog's final settings are actually on page 11, in case you wanted to check those too.

what are the supported video files if I want to play a movie using the USB slot ?
jwortiz is there any way i can get step by step instructions on how to set up the service menu. i set my 52" a750 according to your tv menu settings. great picture but i would like to go in to the system and adjust that as well. is there a instructional video on youtube or something like that? also would a surge protector like monsters make my picture any better?

Does anyone have the default settings for these on the service menu - I have the 52 inch. I changed them and stupidly lost the bit of paper where I wrote them down.

EDIT: The settings I didn't touch are at 128, should the others be set to 128 also?

I attached a text file (walkthrough) for the service menu based on a thread conversation between Zerog6 and KJGarrison.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showp...postcount=1279

You can almost do everything within the regular user menu, so you really don't need to go in there unless you have a particular reason. The only reason I went in there was to adjust the "WB Movie" settings, which included the GAMMA settings to lessen the clouding I had. It greatly minimized it and it's barely noticeable.

As to the Monster products, I think they're a bunch of crap for the amount of money they try to sell them for. You can get equivalent quality surge protection for half the price out there. If you're asking about HDMI cables, I got excellent quality cables from monoprice for about $ 4.00 per cable (6 ft. HDMI 1.3a cables) at the time.

With regards to the youtube videos and such, there's no such thing that I know of. I just read the calibration thread from the begining (took a loooonnng time) and it was worth it. I gathered the information and came up with what worked for me and posted it to help others in my situation, like you.

Hope this helps....

Regards...

Jon,

Sorry...I don't have them anymore (also lost the settings somewhere) and I don't recall them. I was thrilled with the results anyway and I didn't care about finding them after that.

Can you recommend any specific surge protectors. I am about ready to purchase one and I undecided on what to buy. I wish I had enough money to buy one of the more expensive power conditioners and surge protectors, but they just cost way too much! So can you recommend one in the middle that you think is good?

Thanks!

Hi, I have some clouding as well. Curious to know what gamma settings you came up with that minimized it. Looked at your links ... seems like M2 did the trick? Have you posted any measurements taken with your settings. (I see you went against zerog6's advice about not changing green in the grayscale settings. Just curious.)

I'm currently using SirLucky's settings for my PS3 and PC to great results but for the life of me I can't seem to get TV channels to look right. Does anyone else have good settings for ATT U-Verse?
KJGarrison,

All my settings are a combination of others that best gave me the best picture I was happy with. I loved Zerog6's settings and used it as a baseline to start with, but it was a tad red for my liking. The faces/skin tones on people didn't seem quite right. I don't have a colorimeter to confirm and don't have a clue on how to use one. Sorry...

My clouding wasn't as bad as some folks have reported and the settings I was happy with cleared it, so as it was barely noticeable. If I can tweak it some more based on any additional input you or others (more experienced) can provide I'd love to try them.

U-Verse had an update this morning that fixed my issue. Color correction/temp and gamma was very inconsistent channel to channel before but now they all look as they should.

Just to make it easier to find, can someone post:

1) The location for ZeroGs final setting for Movies
2) The location for the best HD Over the Air Settings

Thanks!!

Shake54,

Click the link on my signature for Zerog6 baseline settings.

Thanks JW. Do you use the same settings for all modes? That is, do you use the same settings for BluRays and for HighDef Television??
Quick question(s).

I think I'm going to change my calibration to reflect Zero-G's.

#1 How do I get to the service menu? Is it (w/ TV off) mute-1-8-2-power?

Thats it for now!
#2 How do you check which firmware version you have? I just bought my television so I'm expecting it to be the latest I hope!

EDIT: Solved my own question. I have 1004... and damn zerog calibrated with 1007 and all I can see to DL is 1012.

#3 Question about ZeroG's calibration:

Figured out the gamma settings. Changed the question: Didn't see anywhere to input the contrast ratio for the part "Contrast Ratio: 3,110:1"?

The Contrast Ratio is not an input, it is a measured result of his calibration process, particularly the high Contrast value (100), low Backlight (3) and accurately set Brightness. If one looks in the HCFR data, one finds that 100% white has a Y luminance of 168.724 cd/m^2, black was measured at 0.054 cd/m^2, and by dividing the 100% value by the 0% value, one gets 3110:1.

OK, I've had my 750 since December. I update the firmware to 1012.2 from 999999???? As soon as the tv restarted my screen did not have the same quality picture. Seemed like it was screened, not as crisp. The blacks where pixelated, text had the halo around it everything was just jacked up. I tend to watch most things in Dynamic mode (just like the vivid colors better) sometimes in standard. If I try these calibration settings do you thing it will fix my problems? Is it possible the firmware screwed someting up?

I might not be reading this right but are you saying that 100% contrast and a backlight of 3 results in 168 ftl? That seems a bit high to me, it looks more like 40-50 ftl to me.

My mistake. I grabbed zerog6's data of 168.724 and inserted ftL as the units without thinking. The units are cd/m^2, equivalent to 49 ftL.

The units did not matter to my answer of DJBeanPole's question. The question was, where does he enter the Contrast ratio, and the answer is that it is not an input in zerog6's calibration, it is a result of dividing the 100% Y value by the 0% Y value.

RevToThe Redline,

Have you got your problem fixed with your 750 (1012.2)
After I upgraded mine my picture quality just sux. Lots of artifacts, grainy, colors don't seamlessly radiate they fade in steps. Some shows I have vertical lines going through the blacks.
I have gone into the Expert settings and adjusted those settings which help in movie mode, but in standard and dynamic it hasn't helped at all. Please let me know if you have or not got your issues fixed. I am contimplating calling Samsing and going that route.
Would I notice any difference updating to 1007 from 1004 w/ zerog's cal settings?
What's going on everyone, just wanted to drop by after a long lay off from the forum. I just stopped by to check this out and it's nice to see that after almost 2 years my calibrations are still being used on the 750. Good to know that my time spent on the settings is still helping everyone out. Good Stuff fellas
