Yes, this could have served as a series finale, albeit with some substantial changes. It had that feel to it. It reminded me, in that respect, of the season finale in which Tess leaves Carter with an invitation (and plane ticket) to join her in Australia, but Allison calls him on the phone and we're pulled back into that romance. Unless I'm mistaken, at that point Eureka was on the programming bubble. It seems to me that pivotal moments like that in Eureka are always accompanied by especially evocative music.
I'm wondering where season 5 will take us. There's the Titan cliffhanger to be resolved, and I still think they'll restore the old timeline somehow. There's potential for great storytelling no matter which way they go, especially with the Jack/Allison/Kevin thread, and now Jo and Zane. I hope the producers had enough time to weave a good ending into those final episodes. The abrupt notice that there would be no season 6 could have made that difficult.
