4 episodes labeled season 3.5 will air in a single day.
It is a bit concerning that they are burning off 4 episodes in a single day though. I hope they are just doing that to align the remaining episodes with something else or to just correct the schedule. 4 more episodes would make 12 though which seems to be the normal amount based on previous seasons (12 for S1 and 13 for S2). I'm not sure if I heard of that 21 episode number, but if it's true I would maybe say it was a 21 episode order and not necessarily 21 episodes for season 3. HOPEFULLY, it's just to finish out season 3 in time for them to start season 4 in July on time.
Scifi is on shaky ground. They really want to ditch the scifi concept altogether and go to a broader programming base. After BSG ends in a few weeks, their schedule is looking pretty sparse unless the new Stargate series turns out to be good (ditto for the BSG spinoff).
I don't know where I read it, but it was supposed to be 8 episodes and then return with 13 more episodes, I'll try to dig it up, but I'm almost positive it was from an official source. We were suppose to get a lot of episodes, something about making up for the writer's strike.
I certainly hope SciFi doesn't drop SciFi, that would be the total pits, their original movies are pretty bad, but we need our SciFi channel, I don't think they'll do a bit better with broader programming, they'll just be lost in the crowd if they go that route, we've already got TNT, TBS, USA, A&E, etc... doing that now. I do not want to lose our only real scifi channel, it can do supernatural/horror in addition to scifi and I don't really have a problem with that, but I sure hope they don't start running dramas regularly.
Edit: Here's the thefutoncritic.com page about Eureka and it talks about the current season being split up 8/13 = 21 total, It's now listed as summer for the return, but it was originally listed as winter 08/09. http://thefutoncritic.com/showatch.aspx?id=eureka
