Epson 1080 UB projector position

Ok experts. I could use some help on projector placement. I'm using an Epson 1080 UB. Here are my specs:

Room: 17' 5" X 14' 8" with a 7' 8" ceiling.

I plan to hang the projector from the ceiling.

I would like to have a 92" screen.

Questions:

1. How far back from the screen should I place the projector in order to have the sharpest possible image? I'm thinking about 9' but it's little more than an educated guess.

2. How far from the ceiling should the top of the screen be located? Given my low ceiling I'd like to have the screen as high as possible.

Thanks in advance for you help!

Do you already have the projector? I just bought this projector too. I have it temporarily on two side tables stacked on top of each other (about 44" high). However, I will be ceiling mounting it also and my ceiling is also approximately 7' 7". I was told that the less vertical/horizontal shift you use the better. I would strive to eliminate all horizontal shift by moving the dial back and forth until you hear a little click. Then figure out a mounting position based on that. Also, I was told that the projector looks best from the closest position. I will probably move back a little bit just in case you want a bigger screen later on. Also, you could probably lift up the projector to the ceiling while it is displaying an image and see how it looks. Just my thoughts. I will be going through all this in the coming weeks.

No. It's on order but the contractor wants to put up drywall tomorrow and I need to tell him where to out the box that will house access to the cords.

Projector central has a calculator. Use that calculator (there is a pro version too) to figure out. There is a slider for the zoom also. Keep it at wide angle instead of tele photo. It works pretty well.

So it looks like in order to have a 92" screen my projector will have to be 12' from the screen and the zoom will have to be set to 1.62.

Should I be concerned about a 1.62 zoom? Or, is it no big deal?

Thanks.

You can get a 92" image from 9'-0" throw (lens to screen distance) but that is about as large as you can go using a 9' throw. I would set the throw distance more like 11' so that you have the ability to throw a larger image if wanted. 92" may sound large right now, but after a week or two it will not seem that large. I view 106" from 10 to 11 feet. I like to sit mid way back in a theater when viewing movies.

The 1080UB has 468 lumens in theater mode. on a 92" screen that gives you 18.72fl. You want 12 to 16fl. If you go to a 106" screen you will have 14.09fl. This is all based on a 1.0 gain screen. If you get a screen above 1.0 gain then multiple the fl by the gain. The numbers will decrease the father back you place the projector.

thanks for the info. I'm going to mount at 11'. that gives me room to expand and should give a plenty bright image.
