Rodeoclown,

What was the name of that movie with Donald Sutherland playing some kind of alien/zombie? I forgot. Scanners?

"X" was the letter that needed to be the added at the end when I checked a couple serial numbers.

Never mind, I think it was Body Snatchers.

Set mine up yesterday in came in the morning. Here is my assessment so far.

My stand is 24" high, which I thought would be way too high from comments here. I had my wife measure me sitting on the coach and in the recliner. It turns out my eyes in the recliner are lower than the middle, but above the bottom probably about in between. I see no visible difference in any mode when I raise myself to exactly eye level. I also sometimes sit pretty far away in the breakfast nook at a bar chair. The chair is actually higher than the middle and it looks great still.

TV is light. It can easily be moved by 1 weightlifter :-) or 2 normal people including my wife. Connections on the side are easy to access. TV itself is actually almost good looking furniture. There are a ton of connections. I thank God for HDMI. How great is only 1 wire?

Hooked up a PS/3 player and played a couple of loaned bluerays. Wow, this thing blows me away. My friend has a high end front project in his media room and a samsung 58" plasma in his living room. In the right lighting, angles, etc, I don't see any difference to by non-expert eyes after adjusting the black level on my set.

Verizon Fios sometimes looks good to great and sometimes poor. It must really depend on the quality of each program the stations are broadcasting. The Smithsonian Channel looks amazing. What do most here do with 4:3 content? Do you leave the black bars or stretch? I generally hate stretching.

The only surprise to me is how bright this TV is. The base dynamic mode is as bright as welding to my eyes in the dark. I hope folks with LCDs are keeping in close contact with the optometrist. No one should watch a TV that bright. There are definitely no worries about the brightness of this TV. I played around some with the settings. I'll look back over this fourm and try the recommended settings and see what I like.

If this TV lasts, I'll be a pretty happy man! I don't see any rainbows or missing black pixels. FYI, I ordered it from 6 avenue via Amazon.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I leave it in 4:3 to maintain the correct aspect ratio (black bars on the sides, often called pillarbox.) Stretching 4:3 content to 16:9 looks like ass in my opinion.
On previous TVs I have always stretched to make sure I didn't have burn in. On this one, no worries about that, so I am back to watching 4:3.

I'm just the opposite. I really don't care for the black bars. Btw, I tried your setting from the Google docs. at the beginning of this thread and I really like them.
I never liked stretching either, but sometimes suffered through it to give my CRT TV a break on the sides and help reduce burn-in potential... so it is very nice to not have to worry about that anymore, and always watch stuff in the intended aspect ratio without worries.

What firmware version do you have?

I've already read that some people have this problem, and have installed 1005.3 firmware to fix it.

Before messing with firmware make sure the demo mode is not on! Look in the manual to see how demo mode is enabled and how to turn it off.

Installing an older version of the firmware could void your warrenty.

Doesn't Samsung customer assistance keep telling owners to use the 1005.3 that's on their website even if your current version is 1006. or 1007. ? I've emailed them about this a dozen times and they tell me they are forwarding my question to the firmware department-Not a single reply about the issue in 4 months. I don't think they have a clue.

Glad to hear it! I have actually revised my settings since then, after installing bias lighting (the room got darker) and recalibrating with DVE, Avia 2 and the AVSforum download patterns. The newer settings seem to minimize black crush, while still maintaining deep blacks. Unfortunately, I can't update the Google spreadsheet any more. If you want to try the new settings I came up with, here they are (keep in mind these settings are for a dim room and may not look good in a room with strong lighting):

Source: PS3 (HDMI with RGB output set to Limited, Super White On):

Mode Movie
Contrast 82
Brightness 47
Sharpness 20
Color 49
Tint: G52/R48
Black adjust off
Dynamic contrast off
LED control low
Gamma 0
White balance 0
Flesh tone 0
Edge enhancement off
XvYCC off
Color tone normal
Size Just Scan
DNR off
DNIe off
HDMI black level low
Film mode off
Blue only mode off
Color Gamut sRGB
3d effect off

Source: Standard-def DVR (Component cable)

Mode Movie
Contrast 90
Brightness 35
Sharpness 50
Color 49
Tint G52/R48
Black adjust high
Dynamic contrast off
LED control low
Gamma 0
White balance 0
Flesh tone 0
Edge enhancement off
XvYCC off
Color Tone normal
Size 4:3

As always, it is a good idea to jot down your current settings so you can return to them if you don't like the new ones.

According to the Tier Two support rep with whom I spoke, the higher FW part numbers are just that, part numbers, and are basically the same as 1005.xx, except made by different manufacturers. He said that the only reason, at this time, to "upgrade" is to fix something. There aren't any new features available via firmware at this time.

At the time that we spoke, I had not read some of the other posts, so I keep wondering if one works better with one or the other DMD board part numbers.

The reason I even called them is because I registered the set with Samsung and it said that I had FW 1005.xx, but when I go to "SW upgrade" and press "Info," it says 1007.xx. The registration process did have the correct production date (1.2009).

Do you think there is such a position as Tier Two in parts? It occurs to me that this is becoming more of parts question, as opposed to technical support.

Even though my room is really, really bright, your second set of settings looks nice. The only adjustments that I made are setting "Sharpness" to 0, because that works better with my cable box, and I like "Edge Enhancement" on, even though it seems that most prefer it to be off. I'm going to live with these settings for a couple of days, and see how it works tonight when the room is dark. (American Idol...go Adam!).

Thanks so much for sharing the settings!

Has everybody that has bought a 61A750 from 6th Avenue recently received a damage free/issue free set?

I ordered mine from 6th Ave. April 3rd, got it the 8th with no box damage or issues with the set. The build date was 01/2009. I used the "White Glove" delivery option which for the extra $50 gave me piece of mind. Check back a dozen or so pages regarding my post on 6th Ave special pricing for AVS members.

Somewhere in this thread was a story of someone who accidentally downgraded the firmware and the Samsung rep. said that voided their warranty. There is a difference between the firmware revisions. I have a 67" one with the 1005 firmware (early production) and a 61" with the 1007 firmware. I have to set the black level adjustment (blacker than black) differently on my two PS3's.

Got mine Friday and it's in perfect condition. I guess I'm a pessimist and was expecting the worst. Local delivery guy Team Worldwide contracted to here was super friendly and waited for me to get home from work. Not directly related to 6ave, but overall the entire purchase has been a good one.

Not Mistertoad, but sent you a Private Message, since they do not like for us to talk about price on the board. (Click on your Private Message box in the upper right corner of the screen that shows after you log on.)

Team Worldwide was really great for me, too. I am pretty sure that is the carrier that they use for all orders.

He is thinking it is either something in the lens (not on it), or a problem with the DLP chip. He ordered those two and plans to replace them (He said Samsung no longer supplies the whole light engine for replacement--parts only). He also said that he has seen this on other sets, and earlier models (not the a750s) had silver plates that held down the lens which could have caused the reflections. I am nervous about messing with what is otherwise a great set, but the spot became too annoying in dark scenes. It is also visible with a black background on my PS3 XMB.

Hi. Any way to get a pic of the spot? I opened my set and cleaned everything but the semi round spot still visible on the lower mid left part of the screen.

Wait wait wait... Wait.

Why aren't you using wide gamut and (in the PS3 menu) full RGB? This TV supports it from what I've read. Also, mind if I ask why you're using Super White on the PS3 while having the HDMI black level set to low? Isn't that a confliction?

If you use either HDMI Black Level at Normal and PS3 to Full or HDMI Black Level at Low and PS3 to Limited....I doubt you'll notice a difference. Either combination looks identical to me.
