My Fellow Samsungers:
Just joined the ranks by finding a used HL61A750 set with 2156 hours on it. I searched far and wide (within 800 miles) and finally found one locally for $800 with a nice stand
Go figure, right? The reason why he was selling at that price? This is the kicker....
"There is a dead mirror on the lower right corner" He says. It looked like a small thumb sized black triangle protruded from the left side bezel. He also says that got it from Circuit City before they closed and they gave him an additional $200 discount because of the "defect". I asked him (a Charter Cable tech) if he had looked inside to see what the problem was and he said "Nope, it is an issue with the DLP chip."
So I take it home anyway and searched the web for similar issues/symptoms. I found a few that matched, but I decided to take a look inside myself. I took the circular dust cover off and what do you know: There was some black, cloth-like, tape poking out the side.
Took the tape out and it that "fixed" it.
Anyway glad to be here. This is my 3rd HDTV Sammy and 4th HDTV since my 47" Panny way back in 2002...hard to believe HDTV is still considered to some a new technology. I've had a 47" rear-projection CRT (table mount), a 42" Plasma, and now this. I was jonesin for one a few years ago and now that 3D is finally gaining some ground I'm ready to join the fray with some XpanD DLP-link glasses (or maybe the x103 or x104) and a POD from Mitsubishi FINGERS CROSSED. I cannot wait for the World Cup in 3D!
As a side note I spent the past 3 years managing a multiplex for the first 100% digital movie theater chain with Christie 2K projectors (DLP and REALD). It will be awesome to take the experience home sans polarized glasses, Z-screen, and Silver Screen.
Now on to calibrations and the Service Menu...:-)
